Sony does not publish games on the XB1.
Also, where were you when Capcom gave away the publishing rights to Dead Rising 3 (as well as their wholly owned developer) to MS to make it exclusive to the XB1? If Sony is paying for it, From is willing to develop.

Could someone explain to me why exactly From would make another Demon's Soul game? Don't they own Dark Souls? Aren't they better off building up their own franchise rather than contributing to the success of one they don't own?
In any case, if true, I'm disappointed I won't get to play on PC, but this'll probably be the catalyst for me getting a PS4. This came out of left field for me.

Sabres were used in warfare until well into the 20th century, not just for show either. That's not to mention this is a dark fantasy, a real world comparison timeline isn't especially important.

There could be a lot of reasons, anything we post is just stabs in the dark, but Sony are willing to spend a lot of money, maybe more than rival publishers in this instance, they're willing to allow developers a lot of control, more than most, and they can provide more tech support for their platform than anyone else.
From are going to get a real optimized and title shipped next-gen engine and asset suite out of this presumably, that's extremely valuable for developing DS3.
They now have 2 franchises they can sell...one of which no doubt subsidised by sony, so less risk for them if it doesn't sell as many as dark souls.
It will be interesting to see how it would sell in comparison to dark souls though, if it sold better maybe it would encourage 3rd party exclusivity for more studio's?

You do know that the reason the Souls series even exists is due to Sony helping/funding FROM in the production of Demons Souls.
People also forget SCEJ which helped develop the game.

Could be multiple reasons.
Getting the funding they wanted.
Getting the creative freedom they wanted.
Sony helping with tech for this game.
Maybe they like working with Sony. (who knows)

Dark Souls wouldn't exist if FromSoft never made any partnership with SCEJ that resulted Demon's Souls. FromSoft and SCEJ is like old pal, now wonder if they make another collaboration this time.

The Souls series has been pretty much a renowned success for From and Miyazaki
This isn't confirmed to be a Demon's Souls sequel, more or less a new entry in the Souls series that is inspired by Demon's Souls (if you've played both games you'll know how different they really are)
Shuhei Yoshida (President of Sony WWS) is a big fan of the Souls games. And in interviews where Demon's Souls is even brought up he talks about regretting not publishing the game outright. He's gotten further into Dark Souls 2 than I have.
Exactly as they said: Sony is funding / co-developing. They aren't going to bring this to PC.
And yet it's still not coming. Japan Studios, baby.

Indeed. I'm sure you would have done a great OT as well, plus, you can both work together, that would make the OT even better! But there's still a lot of time before that happen.
