EA announces retail game lineup for April 2014 - March 2015

"Excited to announce EA is continuing our relationship through a new publishing partnership with Vince and Respawn to bring new experiences of Titanfall to players worldwide"

Interesting thing said about their mobile space, which falls in line with what we have been seeing:

Focusing on freemium games that evolve over time
Focusing on Asia, very important to their success - EA Tokyo releasing a Fifa World Cup game on iOS, Android, ect next month I think they said (?)

Clarification on the major new game that is TBA on that chart - Question asked is if it was new IP or existing IP. Answer: "*Laughs* We will be answering that next month, we are very excited about it"

It's really a shame. For a short time they really seemed interested in putting out new, well-made games in a variety of genres. And they lost a bunch of money doing that and have now retreated to this Activision-style release schedule.

Titanfall question - Person asks how many copies sold, and asks about engagement in their map packs.

Answer: "925,000 units sold through for the quarter"
"Xbox 360 version off to good start as well"

Notice, Peter says SOLD THROUGH here, so be careful ;). Did not specify numbers for each platform, as expected.

Titanfall sold 925k in March NPD and 360 version doing well.

That's a hell of a question dodge there... Why not just admit how much it totally sold, hmm?

Q2 ends with the end of August am i right? Or does it end after September? Anyways, isn't NHL usually out in Q3?

no plants vs zombies garden warfare for PS4? bummer since its fantastic on xbox one and i would have hoped more people could try it

oh well.

Asked how Star Wars games are progressing, if we will hear about them at E3, ect

Answer: "Battlefront coming along very well, Frostbite 3 has meant team can iterate and drive innovation with high quality. Plan to show more of it at E3 this year, but lots of work to go"

weird how he just referenced the window for the unannounced game as "what battlefield was in last year, and you don't have a battlefield ever year."

Paraphrasing there a little.

Info on the TBA game for the fall:

"We are filling the Battlefield hole, since you don't have one every year, with the other releases such as UFC, FIFA World Cup, Dragon Age, ect. I'd say 2/3rd of that hole is filled by our other releases in tthis year, and the last 1/3rd of the hole should be filled by this game, to give you an idea of the weight it has."

So the hole this year is filled by multiple titles to cover what is left by BF4?

What if the new Visceral Battlefield isn't this year then? Either that or they expect 3 times less sales for it?

Info on digital sales vs physical sales:

"It's safe to say that we have sold 2-3x more copies digitally than we have last generation, anywhere from 12-15% of a game's total sales are digital, depending on game and platform. That should be a good idea of digital sales for games without giving exact numbers"

The multiple titles fill 2/3 of the hole, and they expect the unannounced game to fill 1/3 of the hole by itself. So it seems they have high hopes for the title they will be announcing.

Yeah so if that hole is by itself equivalent to the sales of BF4 then the new title isn't as big as BF4 then right?

Correct, but still big enough where the title itself should fill a third of the game, while it takes multiple other products (UFC, Dragon Age, Fifa World Cup) to fill the remainder.

Curious...

I imagine they're being cautious since it's a spin-off and not a mainline entry.

Edit: Is the hole for the entire fiscal year? They do have to make up Titanfall and Need For Speed. Though I guess they didn't have The Sims either so...

How bad will they butcher NBA Live this year. I cannot wait to see disaster year 5...while nba2k continues to be a top5 global software title. EA's worst failing that gets nowhere near enough publicity.

I think so yes, he said they have a hole in that genre(shooter) that needs to be filled since they can't release a Battlefield every fiscal year, at least that's how I understood it, but they were talking in riddles and pretty quickly. :/.

edit: Call just ended by the way!

That Battlefield game better be amazing or else EA is bound to lose tons of am reshape this year. Activision has Destiny and Advanced Warfare this year. They're going to kill it at retail.

It was quite strange how they referenced it, as if that as Battlefield isn't every year that the unannounced title wouldn't be Battlefield, but that flies in the face of everything else we know, so I guess it just means not a mainline BF game.

If TBA is indeed a Battlefield game, that's about as meat and potatoes of a release lineup for EA as it gets. Keeping things conservative and focusing on staying profitable is going to be the M.O. for a lot of big publishers this gen methinks, not a lot of risk takers left in AAA development.

I'm kind of surprised we have seen nothing on their Star Wars partnership yet, I guess that deal is still to fresh for the games to be far enough along though.

If I remember correctly Viseral is working on an open world Star Wars game, and Dice is on Battlefront right?

Yep, they only mentioned Visceral and Dice as working on Star Wars games atm (that's not to say no one else is), and confirmed that Battlefront will be at E3.

I am almost certain that their rather sparse game lineup till march 2015 is simply to wait for a larger install base on the new consoles so that they get the most revenue that they can.

I wonder what the SSX team had been doing. I still expect to see a new SSX announced at E3.

Are you saying there is usually a Battlefield every year?

kind of sad seeing so many publishers only bothering with major titles at retail. it feels like the sense of discovery is gone. maybe if the consoles had competent online store fronts it wouldn't matter, but... >____>

No, the exec refereneced it in a way that said that Battlefield is not annual, hinting that the unannounced game therefore isn't a new Battlefield; but everything we know so far points to this new title being a Battlefield game from Visceral.

So, no new NfS, not even a shooter in the line-up? EA really is slimming down a lot on variety the last few years, especially considering how sparse and boring their line-up has already been the past two years. Anyway, time for me to announce all EA retail games I'll be buying April 2014 - March 2015:

So, no surprises here either :).
