Well, if there's one thing people can't say Nintendo is bad at, it's crafting games, so we should be confident about the gameplay of those games :)

I agree but I also fear the price. Nintendo have a strong reputation for trying to extract the maximum amount of money from it's users as possible.

There is at list one sure good thing, they said they will use the same figurines for more games, that should provide some value.

assuming this will be like Skylanders model, i hope for IP Packs like a Zelda Pack, Meroid Pack with 3 figurines inside.

Iwata- not hopeless or at a loss in coming up with something new but unless existing users satisfied we cannot release next hardware

Iwata - we are preparing for next generation hardware as always doing, when release? Difficult to declare..
https://twitter.com/gibbogame/status/464219923560931328

What does this mean exactly ?

WiiU target of 3.6m units will need more manufactured than in current inventory, no loss from hardware any more, more games at E3
https://twitter.com/gibbogame/status/464217206100738048

More Nintendo first party games or from other dev's/pub's ?

All seems to be pretty vague.

Which means nothing to someone that doesn't like most Nintendo developed games anyway.

Huh, then why buy a Nintendo console in the first place? Major 3rd-party games haven't been on a Nintendo platform for years

Read your own posts, you complain for the sake of complaining, Mr. 'Gamer'

What does this mean exactly ?

No new console in the next period. And considering the NFC thing for 3ds that will be launched next year probably also no handheld.

But we will get also the Q&A transcript later so we can see if there are more details.

How much did the pokemon NFC figurines cost? I dont think they were ever avaliable in Sweden.
$4 in America, £4 in UK.
Blind bags only available in a few places. GAME was the only place in Europe and Gamestop the only place in America. Gamestop would hide them under the counter and manage to give away the legendary Pokemon you are only supposed to get with the special edition (eShop code and figures, one of the two legendary and a blind bag IIRC), GAME also had a glitch where you would wind up buying the eShop download twice with the special edition.

So, SMT 4 disappeared in the upcoming release list but SMT X Fire Emblem is still there.
But Brain Training is still there. These lists are never good indications of what will actually happen only what has been announced to happen.

For reference SMTIV has never been on these lists for Europe. If it was we would have been able to rule out if Nintendo if the publisher (or make them the only possibility).

So what I'm saying is for it to "disappear" it would need to have appeared in the first place which means an actual announcement and not an irresponsible off the cuff remark on a Nintendo Direct.

Anyone know how long it usually takes for the Q&A transcript to appear?

I am quite interested to find out whether Iwata really did say they would make a new console for emerging markets or not. There are conflicting reports going around.

I believe it took like 5 days last year. The briefing was on 25 April and the post here on GAF about the translation was on 30 April.

Thanks for digging that up!

We'll see in 5 days then. The story about "a new Nintendo console" is getting posted to numerous places already so it will be interesting if it turns out to be a fabricated story by Bloomberg.

Edit: Thanks KingSnake. Two days then :D. Well, still 5 probably with the weekend.

As I said in the other thread. This really is it for me. The future of Nintendo is Health bars and fucking toy memory cards? Count me out.

I am really weighing up whether to trade my WiiU in now while I can still a get £100 credit towards an Xbox one, or to stay the course just so I can play bayonetta.

It really depends now on What Microsoft shows at E3. I love Platinum but honestly, I can always buy Bayo at launch and pick up a dirt cheap WiiU in a year or so. I don't have to play it the moment it releases.

Nintendo fans seem to be happy with the direction Iwata is moving the company but it sounds so wishy washy and aimless to me. Not only that, even if Nintendo was to turn things around , 90% of games on the console would be things I don't like. The third parties aren't coming back. As for Indies, meh. There is more than enough on PSN, live and steam to go round. Sorry curve studios.

I'm done.

Then do it. Trade in your Wii U or sell it or whatever, then stop posting your Nintendo hate drivel in almost every Nintendo-related thread. Jesus.

Seriously. If someone posted this shit about Sony they would be banned by now. It's hyperbolic bullshit.
You buy a system for two games on a whim and then you go on a rampage that you don't like more of the games on it. How the fuck is that Nintendo's fault?

I really hope Nintendo has more planned for the Wii U than Kart and Super Smash Bros =/.

Zelda? X? Bayo 2? Yoshi? Fire Emblem? I'm not gonna start "list wars-ing" but they do have a handful of other quite big games for it planned that we know about and there's bound to be plenty of new announcements at E3, right?
Fingers crossed v__v

OK this is a side not but

What the hell happened to OP's putting a synopsis/summary in the First post after an event?

You guys are SLACKING :p

Seriously though. Whats the scoop in brief?

So they're no longer selling the Wii U at a loss.

Does this mean they could afford a price cut sometime in the future (I already own one, I'm just curious)?

The terrible sales of Wii U don't impact how they approach new hardware designs, they remain confident in what they do.

but unless existing users satisfied we cannot release next hardware
Literally it means they risk loosing consumer confidence if they axe Wii U development halfway through the gen, need to see it through regardless of how bad the games will sell to the small install base. You could argue this is not the actual reason and that they're simply forced to do so because the priority now is short term profit, investing in a new ecosystem would only pile up bigger losses.

we are preparing for next generation hardware as always doing, when release? Difficult to declare..
Release timing is hard to tell, depends on a multitude of factors including how the competition is faring, if 3DS/WiiU decline too rapidly, etc.

There was a slightly inaccurate one burried in this thread somewhere. I'd suggest instead
Reading the slide titles and full bits of anything that catches your eyes

I just noticed something about the Mario Kart TV thing. That red play icon is youtube right? as in it is embedding those. Maybe the content ID for uploaded media through this is just for analytics as having adverts on the Mario Kart TV site would be odd.

Of course there will be a price cut at some point. Just dont expect it until year's end

Quoting myself again, but there are at list 2 unseen Wii U games to be shown: the Gamepad enforcer and the Money milker (NFC), both to be release this year. X and Bayo 2 are also stated for 2014. That means at list 5 games (including SSB) post E3 until year's end. And this is what we know.

Dude, spend your money how you want but please realise Platinum are unlikely to see any of that money, they already got paid and any slight royalties they might by entitled to will depend on the game bringing in more than was spent (unlikely). It might be better to send them some flowers or something.
But then again copies of Bayonetta 2 might be so rare it turns into a collectors item.

OK just caught up and WOW

What a WEAK strategy

At least for saving WiiU

I mean the WiiU/3DS are finally going to get some of the great games we have been waiting for going into next year but DAYUM are they slow

If they REALLY want to compete they need to learn to be more nimble and reactive. Unbelieveable how little of a shift they showed in this presentation

At this point, they don't have much choice other than to stay the course and retain any novel strategies they may be developing and use those on the next console. No point going all in on a bad hand.

Based on the other comments about how 2015 is for recovery and small profit, 2016 for building and 2017 for a bigger push for growth, I will say there won't be a new console until at list holidays 2016 if not even 2017.

I'm not too fussed with how nintendo is currently going. I purchased the WiiU to play multiplayer with my mates on a friday night. It has served it's purpose. I've had countless nights of laughing and anger during donkey kong and 3D world. looking forward to smash and mario kart.

I don't game often, I prefer reading about the industry (years of being a big consumer and habit) and in particular, nintendo.

Anyway, Here is my idea for an advertisement for mario kart 8. Screen shows young kids playing mario kart 64 multiplayer on an old CRT TV and then the game and people slowly change to the current day versions of themselves, playing mario kart 8 around a flatscreen. The screen then shows a guy alone, with a headset on, playing some generic shooting game. roll some mario kart 8 footage. "It's more fun when your doing it with others". bam. where is my award.

That sounds like a pretty good ad. Reminds me of the one Sony put out that showed the transition from the PS1 to the PS4.

Why do I have the feeling that Nintendo isn't going to properly support NFP?

Nintendo hasn't been the type of publisher to adequately support an ecosystem over a long period of time, VC is a perfect example. NFP really needs yearly expansions and this runs counter to the culture at Nintendo where their software cycles span 2-3 years between iterations.

I don't see Nintendo changing their software development life cycle in order to properly support a product like this. I predict this will be a short lived initiative.

Well the thing about NFP is that it isn't limited to a single game series.
It will be used across a wide variety of games and genres and may even be used for a majority of games coming from Nintendo.

Yeah, I get that but I just don't see it happening. Nintendo release always vary greatly in their feature sets. There seems to be no rhyme of reason to when some games get online, when some games get achievements, when some games get the gamer guide feature, etc.

This NFP seems like it will be a big budget hog and I see a lot of their games opting out of including the feature to keep cost low.

There are some potentially cool things they could do with multiple game-compatible NFP figures; like having a Link figure unlock hard-mode from the start, or having the Pikachu figure makes the encounter rate for them go up, or collecting all the star coins in NSMB5 lets you start Mario Party 10 with more than the standard maps unlocked. Basically, they could use it to provide non-core content and/or advantages to encourage adoption of not only the figures, but potentially other games within the same franchises. Though I don't know if that's the sort of thing they're thinking of, or would actually be effective even.
