I really hope the NFC figures are backwards compatible with older games. Maybe even use the figures to crossover characters NES Remix style. Like Having Link or Samus playable in Super Mario 3D World.

this is highly unlikely, I think the games need to be coded with NFC in mind so it's too late for older games
We've got some news again from the japan correspondent of Gameblog

"And if I told you the next smash bros will be compatible with NFC, and each figurine will have some data."

Hype rising again?
Smash Bros is the game to do it cant wait for E3

What are your opinions for what they open with?

E3 2009 opened with NSMB Wii (Unannounced, unrevealed)
E3 2010 opened with skyward sword (Announced but unrevealed)
E3 2011 opened w/ zelda 25th anniversary (not a game)
E3 2012 opened with pikmin 2 (Announced but unrevealed)
E3 2013 opened with pokemon X/Y (Announced AND revealed)

Personally, I like opening with announced but unrevealed games. We know it's coming, but haven't seen it yet, so it's exciting to show it off.

What about what they close with?

E3 2009 closed with other m (unannounced, unrevealed)
E3 2010 closed with Kid Icarus uprising/3DS reveal (KI unannounced unrevealed, 3ds announced, unrevealed)
E3 2011 closed with Wii U revealed (announced but unrevealed)
E3 2012 closed with nintendo land (unannounced and unrevealed)
E3 2013 closed with smash 4 (Announced but unrevealed)

Personally, I like closing with absolute surprises. "One more thing before we leave." Something we're hoping for, but nintendo has said nothing.

That SAID, even though I prefer they open w/ something announced but unrevealed, I really want them to close with Zelda this year. I want to see if they can try to recapture the majesty of 2004. I think opening with some smash 4 revealed would be nice, as well. The game is announced, but those CHARACTERS are unrevealed :)

looking forward to this. Hope the new Zelda and mainline Mario game deliver! Then their Project X

Is Nintendo holding a conference or is it another direcT?

Now this I don't believe at all.
The 3DS won't be compatible with the NFC figures until next year while Smash is out in the summer.
So obviously they won't have stuff locked on the game for a year.
Unless it's not used for unlocking anything and just for creating your characters and leveling your figures.
Like, maybe the figurines are part of a meta game.
You use them in other games and level up skills and points.
Then there's a Nintendo game that you put them in like an RPG of sorts and can use the skills you gained in other games there.

It makes sense for smash to be the debut NFC game. It explains why sakurai has been unable to talk about 'how' or 'what' you transfer between Wii U and 3DS. What other existing IP could force people to buy dozens of figures? And if you make those SAME figures work on other Nintendo games? Gives you 'value' for your purchase.

Use mario on smash, upload your custom moveset, transfer it to 3DS. Nintendolanders comes out (or whatever other NFC game they use), and you can use that same mario figure to unlock mario. It then detects you used it on smash bros, too, and you unlock metal mario ability, or something along those lines.

Currently creating the visuals for our big E3 thread

People will think I have a mental illness

So, if you're normal stuff is already insane, how's going to be when you're in insane mode?

...

The chills. Already.

If Smash bros. is NFC compatible, then I'm going to be poor :(

Yeah, same here. Depend on it's function/purpose.

If the figures provide good value and all the games they are used for look fun, then yes, me too. Ideally you can use the same figures for multiple nintendo games.

If they're not all that great, i'll probably just buy ALL the zelda franchise ones, and maybe a mario or something, just for collection purposes.

I hope SonyGAF and MicrosoftGAF takes what's in the thread graphics with a touch of humor and not seriously.

I wouldnt worry too much about that, the microsoft thread has a hype train and it has that picture of wiiU staring out the window on one of the trains for some reason.

Not sure if I'll include them though since I like the current Sony leaders and Spencer

But who knows

Couldn't they just ship a complete experience 30-40 hour game and sell an expansion ala NSLU a year later?

I'm going to sound like a bit of an extremist here, but keep that shit away from my Monolith RPGs. Xenoblade had a metric fuckton of content, and not a single bit of it was tied down to DLC. To have that happen to X would be immensely disappointing.

X already has 4+ years in development. An extra year won't add anything.
If something is cut it's because it's not needed or doesn't work.
It will be realeased this year and probably be the biggest RPG of the generation.

I'm almost sure the Bionis' Shoulder was cut precisely because they ran out of time. If they're going to end up cutting shit of that magnitude (we were easily looking at an additional ten to fifteen hours of content), then I'd rather they delay the game a bit.

I'm going to re-quote that Eurogamer article so that everyone knows important that Takahashi gets the time that's necessary to him.

Eurogamer said:
History seemed set to repeat with Xenoblade Chronicles, Takahashi's most recent title, published by Nintendo in 2011, a game set on a pair of gigantic bipedal statue gods. Midway through the project the team encountered a raft of difficulties and, realising they would miss the launch deadline, a deflated Takahashi met with Hitoshi Yamagami, the Nintendo producer who oversees RPG development, to suggest a list of deadline-aiding compromises. But Yamagami rejected the plan and told the designer: "You've come this far. You should see it through to the end. I'll convince the others at the company."

It was a risky yet shrewd move on Nintendo's part. The finished Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the strongest and most interesting releases of the past decade, a game that revitalised interest in a fading genre and which, with a clutch of smart tweaks, brought together the very best of contemporary Japanese and western design traits. Takahashi had at last found a partner with both deep enough pockets to fund his outrageous visions and the creative wisdom to steer him away from crippling indulgence.

If they ever need an extension to get everything they want to done, then by God, give it to them.

I just want a Fire Emblem game... It has been two years since Awakening's Japanese launch and they're completely silent about SMTXFE and the FE series in general.

That bingo card is giving me some big seizures D:

Even the colour corrected one? ;_;

I feel like you would win on that bingo.. too easy of guesses there...

Well I didn't choose anything too out there, aside from Metroid 3DS, I'll give you that; though even if all those games are plausible by themselves, all together it's a different story. I don't see any obviously winning line, the most probable IMO is the diagonal with Yarn Yoshi.

Not to undermine Axass's bingo template, but I'll provide my own templates in due time. Five in total to cover Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Sony and Nintendo. Will be in the E3 2014 General Information & FAQ thread, though will probably post the Nintendo one a bit earlier.

:O You're an unusual one! I like it! Any Nintendo IPs you care for? Anything nintendo themselves could make that you would want?

If they had needed the time they probably could have got it. Most likely they felt it just wasn't worth it.
And that happens. Studios nearly complete entire segments of a game and just decide to cut it because it's really not needed.
Honestly, if X is as long as Xenoblade was, then we're already looking at one of the longest single player RPGs ever made.
Then you add on the endless hourse of killing giant monsters in mechs with your friends online and you have the perfect storm of endless RPG fun.
