Fighting Games Weekly | May 12-18 | The Bracket Racket

I haven't been on tym for a long time since I haven't played Injustice seriously in about 8 months. What's going on with Martian Manhunter? My brother still plays it hardcore and mentioned some shit about him a few days ago.

The consensus is he's the best character. The guy who won ECT, Jupiter, is winning almost everything on the East Coast now. He wins the Break more often than not and won Civil War. He is super versatile. He's got good footsies & good zoning, mobility, strong offense, wakeup attacks, oki, controls interactables well. He's got it all. It's not like Black Adam and Superman where the play style is linear and everyone is using him. So far it's just Jupiter and REO doing well but a lot of people are worried he has no losing matchups or if he does it's just a couple.

I personally think he is top 3 but might be exaggerated.

Where I am too. If you're in SE Michigan supposedly there was a funnel cloud sighted, but no tornado. Most of the warnings have expired now.
Yeah that's where I am. Still pretty stormy currently.

Also, this is a better BBCP 1.0 tier list than LordKnight's junky one.

What does it say about me that I expected that to have Kokonoe in one corner and the rest of the cast in the other

Pushblock works in Skullgirls like it does in the versus games before MvC3, where the person pushblocking had to be more deliberate or the attacker could cancel the push back if he hit you again.

It can be favorable to pushblock and not have them move far away because you can shorten the pushblock animation by putting the stick in a non-back direction and interrupt with an invincible move or something (push block guard cancel).

Good stuff Disco.

Hmm, are you guys generally open with fighting anyone regardless of their skill level?

I find that I have the most fun when I'm playing someone at my level, but I still enjoy fighting against much stronger opponents since it makes it easier to find out what my weaknesses are that way and the immense challenge of trying to overcome a difficult opponent is sort of fun for me even if I don't succeed. But I tend to worry about whether or not my opponent is having fun whenever I fight a stronger/weaker opponent though.

ECT Day 1 photos are up...

Great photos!

GAF -> Internet -> GAF strikes again (maybe). It is something that needs to stop -- you should be able to seed teammates away from each other fairly well from the start (which is warranted IMO). Frankly, if they were seeding from overall rank I'm not even sure how they managed to meet in top 32 to begin with.

I think for most people, they really are best off playing people at or around their skill level, especially when you're starting out. I think the better you get, the bigger your range gets. Once you get to a certain point, playing top players is really interesting (and you can learn a LOT) -- but if you don't understand what's going on, it's pointless. For example, I got to play Fuudo and Itabashi Zangief in VF5:FS at Sega Cup last year, and that was both fun and really interesting, even though I lost about 95% of the time. However, if I played them in SF4 it would be a complete waste of everyone's time because I would just get tooled on sigma free and I wouldn't learn anything.

Oh shit. I might have to start playing again. Are the matches from ECT available yet?

It depends on the game. Marvel or SF I'll fight anyone since I believe I can compete with damn near anyone.

If it's a game I'm not interested in competing in but I still want to play (VF5, TTT2) I want to play someone my level.

If it's a game that I'm still fresh at but want to be competitive in (BBCP) then I don't mind playing someone way above my level, but I prefer people slightly better than me. But I started playing MvC2 in 2004 so I was way fucking late and that was brutal to just jump into, but that's why I don't mind being destroyed in games I wanna learn. If I could do it with MvC2 then I can do it with anything.......except VF5.....impossible.

I might be wrong but Justin vs Flux at ECT is probably the fastest 3/5 Marvel 3 set in history.

This happened when Marvel was 2/3, but damn, it took only 1:20 for Justin to destroy Smooth Viper. Fastest set ever

Dammit. I was thinking about getting my rusty ass to a friend's place to play some online AE with you but my experiences playing people from brazil have been pretty bad.
99% blankas doing unblockable stuff due to extreme lag :(

You're right, all Blankas here, expect for me, I hate that character

It's REALLY hard to understand from that tweet but what he means is that there should be better initial seeding.

It wouldn't be that bad without the lag. You know things are fucked up once they get a knockdown and they just do jumping roundhouse, crouching roundhouse and lag is so bad you can't neither correctly block nor reversal.

Thanks everyone for answering mango's question. As for this seeding thing I'll never understand why being on the same "team" should be taken into consideration. If the players are in close proximity and train together sure spread them out, but proximity is the only reason I think one should consider when seeding players who wave the same flag.

I saw that earlier, love it, lol.

Also, might just be me, but I feel like teams shouldn't be taken into consideration considering the fact that you aren't playing a "team game" and in some cases, you might not play your teammate much or something.

This sounded a lot more coherent in my head.

Wait so why shouldn't team mates have to fight each other early if that's how it works out? Seems a little stupid to show favoritism to anyone.

Why is Chris worried anyway, he has a hard enough time just getting to tournaments on time ;P

I just wish all tournaments would move to pre-registration only like EVO so we could have set brackets well in advance. It prevents shenanigans, it's hype, it lets players prepare. I guess that'll never happen with the FGC being so poverty.
