As to whether our philosophy has changed or not, the basic idea that consumers reluctantly purchase hardware only because they want to play with appealing software remains unchanged. I only mentioned the Wii U software “Mario Kart 8” and “Super Smash Bros. for Wii U” today, but of course, we are going to talk about other Wii U titles at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) in Los Angeles in June. Also, our internal software development teams directed by Shigeru Miyamoto (Senior Managing Director and General Manager of Entertainment Analysis & Development Division) are committed to developing several titles that focus on offering unique experiences only made possible with the Wii U GamePad in order for a large number of people to understand the Wii U GamePad’s significance. The titles we are preparing to show you at E3 vary from being nearly complete to still in the early phases of development but with the core of its appeal noticeable. Therefore, our strategy of focusing on software has not changed.

I wonder if it will live up to the "Games fans, this is the one you've been waiting for." line from their Tweeter. (Strangely enough, that line has disappeared from the E3 Website.)

early game = probably a Zelda teaser.

They said it was ready to be revealed last year, the game is probably fairly well into development by now.

Hoping by early they don't mean SMTxFE early. That was too soon. That said, they need all the hype they can get.

There was a Miyamoto interview last year about how 'good' the progress they have made with the game already. I highly doubt that the game is still early in development, especially given Iwata's aim for a 3 year Zelda cycle development (although it is evident this will not happen now). But I'm not saying it is near completion either.

Early is likely going to be stuff we don't even know about right now. There's no way Zelda, announced over a year ago is still in "early phases."

If anything Zelda is almost certainly in the middle of those two areas. It probably fit in the early stage category last year though given that they had considered showing it at last e3 according to interviews

This is what I expected. I imagine Treehouse will demo early builds of games and such during E3 just like how we got TW101 after E3 on GameTrailers when it was called Project P-100. They can't be conservative.

That caught my eye in the QA. I'm guessing they're willing to everything they have in development for the Wii U.

Also, I doubt Zelda is in it's early phases if it's going to be their flagship title for 2015. I was thinking more along the lines of SMT x FE or Fatal Frame.

If The Legend of Zelda is in early development after possibly 3 years and a last second decision to not show the game at E3 2013 something has gone horribly wrong behind the scenes.

They didn't show it because they already had Wind Waker HD and A Link Between Worlds. Not because something went wrong.

It's basically saying the EAD Division has a few titles they will show at E3 that will demonstrate the GamePad functions. Some will be more complete than others.

Do you think it's possible that they show the next 3D Mario game?

Also hoping to see SMTxFE, Yarn Yoshi, Hyrule Warriors, Miyamoto's new IP, and whatever Retro is doing next. If they considered WWHD a success, I expect to see another gamecube remake in the works.

I think his point was that if it's still considered "early" in development after 3 years then something went wrong. I agree, though, I don't think it's early in development at all, especially if it ends up being a 2015 title.

chances aren't a slim as a new Metroid, at least.
Why do people think Metroid is unlikely? It hasn't even skipped a generation yet. Metroid is far from a dead franchise and just because people didn't like other m doesn't change that. F-Zero on the other hand is pretty dead

Well if Iwata is going to spend subsequent E3s talking about the future of Nintendo, might as well use this E3 to give the Wii U one final push.
