Media Create Sales: Week 19, 2014 (May 05 - May 11)

What is that supposed yo mean? The Vita is far from the succes that Sony had hoped for. It's failing world wide. Unless you're trying to make some snarky comment.

You haven't been here for the last few months, have you? Media Create threads have been showered with #Vita Champion, #Champion, #Vita beast mode etc. because it's doing slightly less horrible than what it previously did. There have been times where I've wondered if I've entered a Gamefaqs thread instead of a NeoGAF thread.

Congrats to Japan for not falling for the hype.

People there apparently have a much better gauge on value than we do.

On one hand you'd commend them for not being stupid but on the other hand that means absolutely nothing good for the Japanese video game industry.

Japan has nothing to play unlike the west .
It's rather telling that you can't name any PS4 software for months to come .

Yeah it is. Which still makes me wonder why many think the PS4 will outsell the PS3 by leaps and bounds; I just don't see the world taking up Japan's slack if the PS4 doesn't turn around massively in the far future (doubtful).

Combined with the Wii U global problems, this generation is going to see a massive drop in combined consoles sold IMO.

NA alone can make up PS3 sales numbers for PS4 in the west .

I believe it was all tongue-in-cheek.

Those people knew Vita was failing and is doomed.

Vita is literally Number 2 in the region

Which isn't saying much

Everything is selling low numbers.

Considering the upcoming lineup of Vita/3DS I am positive that portables will own the region well in to next year and beyond. Its Just how JAPAN is going

I do see PS4/WiiU getting respective bumps with big software titles eventually though

Reposting from the other thread

<10k weekly sales race

Gamecube - 5 weeks (shortages?)
PS4 - 11 weeks
WiU - 12 weeks
Dreamcast - 16 weeks
Vita - 17 weeks
3DS - 24 weeks (the week before the big price cut, only week the 3DS dropped below 10k)
PS3 - 27 weeks
PS2 - 29 weeks (shortages, PS2 sales dropped to 3k)
GBA - 214 weeks
Wii - 224 weeks
NDS - 322 weeks
PSP - 371 weeks

All by Famitsu

If Gamecube was shortage based (I'm sure someone could verify by looking at the weeks beyond 5), that is very telling of how Japan has given the finger to consoles. I mean Wii U has had its flaghship titles launch with very little change in sales; by association, it would seem that it would be unlikely for the PS4 to turn around with future software releases (and at the moment, PS4 is well behind the Japanese software release schedule the Wii U had).

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
ps4 and Wii u about to cross streams? Who'd have thunk? Remember before the ps 4 launch some of us were saying Japan is f***ed and sony fans were all "Nothing to see here every thing is fine! It's just that the Wii u is an 'undesirable product'"

PS4 - 8.680
PS3 - 8.099
WIU - 8.065

I wonder if the PS3 will be on top next week. I would imagine potential WiiU owners would wait for the Mario Kart 8 bundle (will there be one in Japan?) now, so that number should go down and PS4 is going down anyway. Or if there won't be a MK8 bundle, WiiU might actually go up and be on top for once.

The PS4 has a bigger potential for a comeback though.

As is the PS4 in its current state.

I have to admit, I'm starting to wonder now what the 'right choice' is for a westerner who has a preference for Japanese games. Nintendo anyway, given you're still going to get Nintendo games on it? PS4, in the hope that FF15 sparks other developers to come to the platform? Smartphones, but they're of a different gameplay to the stuff we're already getting? Xbox One, in the event that they do actually make a (most likely foolhardy, but we're only talking about what gets the games onto the platform, here) serious attempt to break Japan?

The PS4 actually has good Western games though. None of the consoles has a good Japanese lineup.

Oh I think it has some good games for any territory, but I think Japan realized the high costs aren't worth it if you can find similar experiences on existing hardware.

Just something to counteract the last year's #Vitatobediscontinued. Of course, it's very tongue-in-cheek.

PS4 is currently an undesirable product, with its current line up.

It'll most probably make a comeback but looks like we won't be seeing sales even close to previous generations.

Sure when you compare to PS2, PS1, SNES and NES but I still think it will sell about the same as PS3. Could do million less or million more. PS3 was pretty slow burner too. Still of course extremely sad that the leading console will sell about 10 million max... =/

PS4 was expected to sell on hype alone (and the jubilant cries of everyone hailing Japan's savior) as in the west by many on this board.
And before WiiU launched there were people saying how it would utterly dominate Japanese industry. I really hate this hivemind bullshit. There are always people predicting something insane but there are also a lot of people having reasonable predictions. I remember a lot of people also saying that PS4 would be similar to PS3 in Japan.

20./29. [PS3] Grand Theft Auto V <ACT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2013.10.10} (¥7.770) - 3.507 / 772.773

I still don't get this trend. GTAV may have a honest shot at breaking 1 mill.?

It keeps refusing to stop.

Might be some cross promotion going on. The spinoff arcade game came out recently and the fanfest caravan has been touring Japan over the past few weeks too.

Edit: what's with the 12k 3DS discrepancy between the two trackers?

3DS combined is about 36k according to m-create.

I highly doubt PS4 will sell as well as the PS3

What good games are there for Japan and unlike the west they not even doing cross gen games for titles can maybe help the system over there.
Games like WD, Destiny , DC , The Order etc etc that going help system in the west no use over there.

I don't think people expect the software problem to be this bad but after last year TGS i guess people like me should have given up hope .

I pick all and that's all. I know it's not easy but i'm not Richie Rich myself, i just save for my hobby.
Right now, especially for someone who's into japanese games, WiiU is the only option (home console wise) without this fact meaning there is any serious attempt at pushing japanese games anyway.
I just hope in time all 3 will pick up a handful or more titles to make their purchase worthwhile.

There is a range of opinions between "PS4 will save Japan" an "Japan is fucked". We know that there are heavy hitters coming to the PS4 and we shouldn't forget them, just as we shouldn't assume that the console can stay in the tomb until 2015 with no ill effect.
