Horrific week for everything aside from 3DS and even that was mediocre.. Japanese titles need to be developed for the PS4 quick.. It's looking like it won't even reach PS3 numbers, though many expected that with the trending market in Japan..

So what is everyone expecting for Wii U/MK8 during MK8 week?

Does 50k Wii Us and 200k Mario Karts make sense? That seems low, but Japan isn't getting an MK8 bundle, right?

I'm thinking 250K MK8 sales and 30-35K Wii U's sold..

That would be foolish for developers. Smarter to just focus on 3DS, Mobile, and, to a lesser extent, Vita.

Looks like I got a bit too impatient >_>... Thanks for the #s as usual =).

24./29. [3DS] Harvest Moon: Linking the New World <SLG> (Marvelous AQL) {2014.02.27} (¥5.040) - 2.894 / 210.649 <80-100%> (-13%)

Is this the highest for a Harvest Moon game ever? I don't remember any of them selling more than 200K...

Also how do the sales of the current Fossil Fighters compare to the DS one?

Did marvelous just decide not to send out any meaningful shipments or something?

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
29./00. [3DS] Hero Bank <RPG> (Sega) {2014.03.20} (¥5.550) - 2.583 / 44.116 <80-100%>

So, in the end, Sega does what Capcom't?

FYI, Heatwave is actually a move in Pokemon, but that is still funny lol.

I didn't even know Yo-kai Watch was close to a million. I was just looking at how high its weekly numbers are and didn't notice the LTD was creeping up to a million lol.

From the previous thread:
Yeah that's a good point. Odd that they have the split when Famitsu doesn't give it out on the official site though.
They have a partnership with Famitsu and they can share the hardware splits.

If I were Sony, I won't worry about PS4 in Japan at all. It will sell when big games come out, which sadly won't happen until 2015. This year Japanese PS4 owners will get Deep Down, port of Musou Orochi 2 Ultimate and Akiba's Trip 2. Also there is a Gundam game in development and also that Lily Bergamo from Grasshopper. That's about it. Any new games announce at E3 likely won't come out until 2015. As long as PS4 still sell everywhere else. Sony can be very patient for Japan.

am I the only one that thinks that the PS4 reaching sub-10k earlier than WiiU in Japan threadworthy?

It will be a carnival of stupid, so, even though I guess it is thread worthy I wouldn't open a thread because you probably won't have better discussion about the subject than you already have here. But that is just me... :)

It doesn't look like a huge success, but I believe Gyrozetter couldn't even reach those numbers.

People act like the gamefaqs release list is everything PS4 will get for the year.

Here's some future 2014 games I think will help PS4's situation in Japan:
Infamous
Watch dogs
deep down
The Evil Within
DriveClub
Omega Quintet
Lily Bergamo
TLOU Remaster
COD: FW

Other likely releases this year:
GTA V
Earth Defense Force
Idolm@ster
Gundam PS4

I'm also betting we get a WW beta date for deep down at E3 which may be a big game for PS4.

I wouldn't open it myself as I don't like getting caught in that kind of turmoil but I think certain info has to be properly communicated to raise awareness. GAF is known for telling things as they are and people seem to think the PS4 is riding a neverending wave of awesome everywhere. and that's definitely not the case here. That's why it ocurred to me .

but yeah, probably better keep the discussion here. it's a japanese matter after all.

I wonder if Sonic Transformer Racing will sell on the hype for MK8. Not much, but better than it would have normally sold.

For the first week of MK8 I go with 45k for Wii U and 275k for MK8.

Edit: Although MK7 sold 437k in the opening week and if MK8 goes by the preorders and will be above MK7 we will be in for a very big first week (and surprise).

No. It wasn't release in the holiday season, costs more, and has no games. What's the mystery?

is not a mystery thing, is the fact that the PS4 reached a negative milestone FASTER than the biggest failure in recent videogaming mystery that is the WiiU.

what this means is that, potentially, PS4 could end up being a worse failure than the WiiU.

can you imagine the consequences of such a video game crash?? the doom posts we're reading aren't hyperbole, sadly.

I think its pretty clear Sony doesn't care much about JP in terms of sales at the very least.

In terms of games, I think they still do and much of this industry still does which is a good thing.

I think the 3DS had twice as many consoles sold when MK7 released. Add to that the 3DS was cheaper, a handheld, near Christmas season, and that it was between Super Mario 3D Land and MH3Ultimate.

I'll say 275k for MK8 and 40k for the console is quite realistic. The game will probably have some decent legs and it'll sure have a comeback during Christmas.

Suddenly everyone knew and had seen that PS4 would be such a sales disaster in Japan.

It would be ideal if people just stopped with the dumb generalizations.

"Everyone" thought PS4 was going to save Japan. "Everyone" thought PS4 was going to tank. "GAF" this, "GAF" that.

There are thousands of people with different opinions here, fanboys of all companies. Whenever you, who is reading this, think "GAF" favors something, odds are you're simply projecting your own bias, focusing on one side while ignoring everything else on the other.

This is what will help the PS4 in Japan?

Idolmaster and Gundam may move unitts if they're not crossgen (which is doubtfull) but the rest? Really?

But they are. It reached a negative milestone for good reason where as WII U had games. Not only that, this is not isolated to ps4, it's the whole industry.

This should pretty much go without saying.

3D World is still everpresent in the charts and Kart is more popular than 3D Mario.
Wonder if Japan will get a bundle for Christmas if it's not getting one now.

I want to see a line graph of Yokai Watch weekly sales since launch.

It's been awhile since a new IP game became a million seller. Last one was what, 2009?

That's actually a good question. What will Nintendo choose? More money or a bigger install base?

They could bundle SM3DW and some casual game. Something like last year NSMBU bundle but with newer games.

Here's some comparisons for Freedom Wars I believe someone requested.

44 days Before release

Freedom Wars - 45pts
Toukiden - 17pts
God Eater 2 - 180pts
Soul Sacrifice - <25pts (didn't chart until 7 days before release where it had 28pts)

And for fun this is where those games ended at. (FW sales are MC btw)

Toukiden - 138pts (FW 123k)
God Eater 2 - 411pts (FW 266k)
Soul Sacrifice - 40pts (FW 136k including double pack)

My
guess
hope is that Freedom breaks 200k first week.

I'm not sure Japanese publishers care about the local console market anymore.

This last set of fiscal reports was overwhelmingly laying out plans to focus on new business areas.

Thanks, I think I asked for this earlier.

I'm guessing / hoping / whatever that Freedom Wars will break 200k first week too.

The game sure deserves it, what I've seen is quite good. It's one of my most awaited games for this year ^^

I expected PS4 to be Wii U's basement buddy, but I'll be honest and say that the figures are lower than I expected.

I hear ya, but if anybody has a finger on the pulse of the sentiment during the history of these threads, it's the sales age genius himself. And there does seem to be a fair bit of revisionist history and goalpost moving going on. That was my non-expert read on it, but Chris1964 expressing the same sentiment validates that a bit.

Hopefully things perk up across the board. Nobody wants to see the death of Japanese console game output.

...Joe?

:,O i dont believe in coincidences.

Edit: "even the pokemon centers were empty" i love it :p

Edit (again...): and to keep talking about pokemon ;D

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/campaign/3dsLL2014/

nintendo is adding 2 ("3") pokemon games to the japanese 3DSLL free game promotion. After june 1 you can also choose between "pokemon x" or "pokemon y" and after june 19 "pokemon art academy". Also, after june 1, you can also choose "puzzles and dragons z". But thats not pokemon. I guess that people have already talked about this in the thread but whatever...

Last year somebody said Yakuza 1&2 HD (WiiU version) wasn't on Famitsu/MC top50 because a heatwave stoped people from buying the game.

Since that day everytime something bombs it's been a heatwave (or snowstorm in Winter).

I think this started it all:
what's weird is going back to that thread, amd youkai watch is there at number 2. holy shit legs!

Has that been confirmed to be happening? I wouldn't have expected D3 to have anything like the resources to develop a PS4 EDF when they could pour less resources into another PS3 EDF and hit a much larger audience.

I'm curious to see if older Wii U games that didn't sell that well (such as Tropical Freeze) will also see some increase in sales after MK8's predicted bump.

EDF had a retrospective montage for an upcoming PS4 game at Sony's TGS conference last year.

Comgnet's retail chain preorder comparison, as of May

[PSV] Persona 4 The Golden - 129pt
[3DS] Etrian Odyssey IV - 51pt
[3DS] Shin Megami Tensei IV - 94pt
[3DS] Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl - 44pt
[3DS] Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth - 100pt

Ok, so Persona Q is above Shin Megami Tensei.
I'm starting to think a +200k opening for this Persona spin off is completly possible.
