Wolfenstein: TNO is unplayable without patch [Bethesda denies; See OP]

It's almost like ... the game wasn't finished and they shipped an activation disc to go along with the retail game you have to download !

This should not have made it past cert if true. Unacceptable for a singleplayer only game. People will get burned by this, especially the average consumer.

From a collectors standpoint I really hate this kind of thing. in the future once the console is past its life cycle and the servers have shut down this game is lost unless they still sell it and the discs will be worthless.

That's not self important. That's just wanting to buy a videogame I like the look of. I'm not obligated to boycott just because someone else can't play it.

And if you read my post, you'll see I acknowledged the problem. At the end of the day, this problem doesn't affect me, so why should I go any further than that? It sucks for them, but I'm glad I can play it

Of course you're not obligated to boycott, but people also aren't obligated to think you're not an asshole.

I assume this is true for the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 build? If so, had a mate looking forward to it who cannot easily connect his system to the internet and use that much bandwidth (yes, I realise how archaic this is). Guess he'll be missing out.

I worked at game when half life 2 came out we had to tell anybody that bought it that it required online activation I guess this is like that.
I bought Half-Life 2 from Gamestop and the employee just asked me if I wanted the box with Gordon or "Gordon's bitch".

Don't you get it? You like and play video games, therefore you are responsible to become an anti-consumer activist and make sacrifices for the greater good!

It's called not being short sighted. Just because it doesn't affect you now doesn't mean it won't eventually. What happens then? Nothing because you were short-sighted git who couldn't possibly see it coming.

they may as well ship a download voucher inside... what the fuck is the point of this?

Also one day (say 20 years from now), the patch is not available anymore, the disc is useless? Insane.

I'm don't care about patches as I've got good uncapped internet so a big download really doesn't worry me, but this crosses the line.

What about the console owners who are less fortunate due to either the cost or availabity of good internet. Different if it was an online only game, but we are talking about a single player game bought on a physical disc.

That's fucked up. Need to tell my brother in law. They live out in the middle of nowhere so they don't have high speed internet. Guess killing Nazis isn't for him.

Who green lighted the dvd/blu ray impression of a no functional version?. This smells like it is really for avoiding PS3/X360/PC piracy and to dissimulate they make it even worse and instead of a 1 KB unlock file they make you download an entire DVD again even in the no pirateable versions (XB1,PS4)...I was thinking about buying this if reviews were good but now count me out.

Eh would rather wait for an actual source. But didn't Forza 5 do something similar? I remember reading it was technically playable without the patch but you can't complete the game without it.

I really don't understand this. How could it possibly pass certification?

From a collectors standpoint I really hate this kind of thing. in the future once the console is past its life cycle and the servers have shut down this game is lost unless they still sell it and the discs will be worthless.
Yep, that's my line of thinking as well.

Obviously this isn't the case, or else people wouldn't be complaining.
I'm assuming the game is literally won't let you play until you download the update.

But we don't know. Is not like the person put the disc in without the console not connected to the internet. If he did, he would have said so. Probably he did, who knows. The only fact that we know of now is that the game requires a massive update.

I thought they had certification requirements mandating that your game must run without an internet connection sans multiplayer.

I was watching some dude play the russian retail ps3 version so I highly doubt it.

I wonder what are the patch sizes for those versions are

Seriously, I have no words. Delay the game if you can't get it to work or even cut out the entire fucking section that is making it crash so the player can at least play something with the disc they have. To have it not work at all is just completely unheard of and unacceptable.

I dont know though considering I was watching a vid of a guy playing for 20 mins that he recorded. Think it was a GAF user actually? Which was the PS3 version.

Yeah found it, though zenimax got to the video.

How will it affect them eventually?

And there's a lot of issues around the world man. We cant 'take at stand' on all of them. Some people are fine with glossing over little shit like this. I don't blame them.

Trying to imply he's a bad person or an ass is ridiculously judgemental.

Climate change doesn't affect me so who cares... :(
So climate change is on the same level as a patch issue in a video game now.

My god.

tempted to cancel pre-order for this...even though i got a good deal for it...

i buy games on disc so they will always work in the future. once the servers for this game die, this game is a coaster...don't think i can support that sort of bullshit.

I'm asking around to find out if this is true, but out of curiosity, what makes you guys think some random Twitter account with an Xbox avatar and 1 follower is a reliable source of information on a video game that isn't out yet?

But a game asking to update when connected happens all the time. There would have to be something different about this for someone to make a big deal out of it.

Well it's enough for some news outlets to pick this story up. :p

Yeah, good point about reliability of the tweet. Will wait for official confirmation.

No idea. He's never ran into PS3 certification trouble before.

Cool, well, if he can play without patch on his PS3 then good for him. Otherwise he cant play at all.

Sucks if they gimped the physical release like that, but I guess it's still ultimately less restricted than a digital one.

if only he had stopped all of this by choosing inactivity over making that purchase!

Yeah I was just asking that myself.
