Media Create Sales: Week 19, 2014 (May 05 - May 11)

I am not going to be able to stop myself from looking at X spoilers if this is not a worldwide release

I thought, nevermind you edited June
June has Mario Kart DLC Believe!

DLC would be nice, yeah. Who knows what's happening with X WW at this point. Just hoping they stick with 2014.

What about the Gamepad Enforcer game? (they mentioned more, but at list one should be close to completion)

Oh, maybe. I also forgot Fatal Frame, although I imagine that'll be out around the same time as the movie.

PS4 hitting sub 10k before the WiiU?

Hot damn.

Vita's not looking too great either.

I wonder what's keeping the 3DS sales up there, doesn't seem like it's mario golf, that 3DS LL promotion maybe?

WiiU is still doing sub 10k despite being nearly halfway through its 2nd year. Lets see how PS4 fares.

I don't know about you guys but I see it as a success.

Indeed but the Wii U #Champion is coming for the throne during Mario Kart week. Then the streams will cross and it'll start consistently outselling the PS4 and become the new king!

I'll leave my prediction for Mario Kart 8 here, just because:

I'm predicting 300-350k units for MK8 and 55k Wii Us sold on the opening week.

Hype. Is. On.

Hope. Is. On.

Similar to my predictions for MK8 (maybe more like 350), but I predict the WiiU will do better. Nintendo consoles seem so spiky. The WiiU sold like 3k for weeks in the Autumn, but then December came and it hit 100k...
Gotta be specific so fuck it, 80k :D

lol no.

MK8 will not break the 100k mark. The install base is just not there to reach higher numbers.

The console market in Japan is definitely in different shape as it used to be and we all know from historical point of view that Japanese gaming market is usually a glimpse of what will come.

I think, that Sony will be riding on western success for a time being. At least until the games that appeal to this market arrive and at the same time, they can use the western sales as an article in negotiating with Japanese developers.

I'm using the term in the same way NPD is using it for the most part.

DVD playback was a good value add. I don't know how accurate it is to say that it wasn't selling primarily as a video game player though. It managed a large attach rate despite the largest installed base of all time.

Essentially all I'm saying is that the 360 took the bulk of the US audience that bought the PS2 in the 6th gen, the TTM unit sales have remained mostly flat save cyclical peaks and troughs for a good 10 years.

the ps2 is an amazing console in how much it sold and how well the games sold. but what i'm comparing are the first year of each platform. the 360 doesn't compare favorably to the ps2, despite doing well. it did eventually take in a lot of the ps2's audience though, yes, but it wasn't a flip of the switch like it appears the transition to the ps4 was.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
lol no.

Tell us more about your crystal ball.

Seriously though, the title should easily break 100k. My personal bet is an opening above 200k.

JP accounted for 13% of PS2 sales and 12% of PS3. Sony has always known the West to be far more important to the console market.

There's not much reason to assume they wouldn't, unless they've blocked videos like that in the past.

In all the certification requirements I've seen, reference to rival companies or systems is a major no-no. We've had to change attract mode videos because a PS2 button prompt was fleetingly visible.

PS4's at what 7-8% roughly? And declining?

Its silly to draw comparisons with the PS4 since the PS2/3 figures are LTD's.

However I am sure JP accounted for a lot more during the first 6 months of PS2/3 because:

1) (biggest reason) PS4 is doing tremendously well in the West.
2) PS2 in JP was a beast.

I don't think it is impossible for it to reach 80k, but ignoring the holidays spikes, all the other bumps when important games launched were so small that I decided to be more conservative... :)

There are over 1.7 million WiiU owners in Japan. That means that about 6% of the current WiiU owners in Japan have to buy Mario Kart 8 in the first 4 days (1st week) for it to sell 100k. Or to put it more dramatically, about 94% of all WiiU owners would have to skip out on Mario Kart 8 in the 1st week of release. So the install base is more than big enough to support a 100k number the first week :) Then i also havnt accounted for people who will buy a WiiU at Mario Kart 8 launch week, so it might be 5% instead of 6% as i mentioned above here.

EDIT: Fixed a typo.

I don't think there has been a game this big. Maybe just me, but 3D World looks quite boring in comparison and "seen it before" with NSMBU which isn't that different.

80K could be way too high, but I decided to take a chance and believe some really underestimate it. I believe this is the WiiU's Melee, just a little late :p

Not sure if this has been posted but KOEI's CEO mentioned in a recent interview that he is expecting more than 1 million copies of Hyrule Warriors to be sold worldwide.

He also mentioned that KOEI are working on collaboration titles, one coming later this year (could be Fatal Frame?) and another one which targets the Western market but this may come a bit later.

For once I think they will meet that goal. I'm going to assume the other collaboration is with Nintendo as well. Wonder what it could be?

Well in their earning presentation for FY2013 Koei mentioned that they would increase the number of "collaboration" titles. The main ones for this year are Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn and Hyrule Warriors of course. They also mentioned a collaboration game coming in the second half of the fiscal year (Oct 2014-Mar 2015) which could possibly be Fatal Frame 5 with Nintendo. Or maybe something completely different.

They also mentioned another collaboration with more Western IP/Dev targeted for the western market. The CEO said

We still can't announce it yet, but by following the patterns of domestic successes, we'd like to try proceeding collaborations with an overseas major game maker, or it could be a movie company, TV show, anything else. It doesn't mean it can be announced within this year, but you can please look forward in 2~3 years.

So looks like KOEI are looking for some western IP to make a game out of.

You can read my summary of Koei Tecmo's fiscal year here-

It's makes me happy to see this (kinda) small companies doing well. Dynasty Warriors is an underrated series imo and Toukiden was a really good game.

They've said they're expecting EU sales to grow the most... could that mean the collaboration they're teasing for second half of the FY is a popular IP here?

I'm quite curious about what this collaboration could be.

I'm putting my bet on Game of Thrones musou. Perfect franchise for it currently raiding wave of popularity due to TV series and I think noone has exclusive rights to make video games on it unlike star wars.

And GoT itself is like Dynasty Warriors conquest mode :D

Toukiden was a great hit for Tecmo though I don't see it growing much.

I really don't think its going to be a new Ip but I would love it to be. My guess is something DW.

I agree. I'm a huge Koei fan as you can probably tell so it's great to see them doing fairly well.

Now that's not a half bad idea. Not sure I can see Koei doing it though.

Toukiden is already expanding. Toukiden Kiwami is coming soon for PSV/PSP and Toukiden Quiz Battle is coming soon for iOS/Android. Koei seem set on expanding the Toukiden IP. The first game did very well for a new niche IP.

It did as well as mainline DW games do so it's not really niche ip for them.

I still think they should do a homeconsole version for Toukiden 2. It won't outsold the handheld version in Japan but in the West it'd be quite a wise choice.

And seeing how they did a 360 version for their Musou games for years, I think they actually have the western market in mind to some extend.

It could just be a 1080p/60fps (<-since people love to hear this) Vita version with better lighting, textures. People don't really expect graphical marvels from publishers like Tecmo anyway.

They use the musou engine for this game, right? It shouldn't be that hard to adapt the game for other platforms then.

Thanks. Looking at the PSF it seems like they had a big drop in revenue (assuming that is their income statement in page 15), did they explain why?

Did duckroll feed you this translation? =P

You're looking at the wrong lines. They had their best results in years.

Here's a page in English for quick reference:
http://www.microsofttranslator.com/...ts/company/kessan/shihyo.aspx?scode=3851&ba=9

But they didn't forecast an increase. They expect loss in the first half of the next fiscal year and a small profit by the end (numbers at the end of the first page in the pdf).

(If you noticed the dividends: they split 1 stock in 200, so this year's is actually double of last year's).

And it's the "Witch and the Hundred Knight" that has sold 90k.

That all said, I don't know if that's the only reason their stock is down. Maybe there's more in the PDF, but reading it would take me a entire day.

Am I wrong or this is the first time we have data for both 3DS and 3DS LL and Vita and Vita TV for Famitsu numbers ?

I was taking a look at Vita TV numbers using M-C and then I noticed this week they appear also in Famitsu, so according to the latter, Vita TV has almost reached PSP Go numbers, after 26 weeks PSP Go sold 104,831 units, Vita TV sold 103,626 units

If we consider M-C numbers, Vita TV has already passed PSP Go (110,980 vs. 102,758)

MCV has been giving them out every week for this FY I believe. Chris used the MCV numbers for this week because they were available early and it had the top 10 for Famitsu translated as well.

They were never posted in the OP before.
