Vita sold 3k...in a month?

And I thought Wii U numbers were unflattering.

Crazy how it's selling so much better in Japan and that's only at 18k a week or something.

That's what I found when looking for last year's numbers

April 2013 handheld - 187,000 (3DS + PSV + DS + PSP)
April 2014 handheld (-38%) - 115,940 (3DS + PSV + DS + PSP)

PSV is 3,300, so 3DS + DS + PSP = 112,640

Consoles are up 57% compared to last year.

Compared to handhelds, the strength of the PS4 + Xbox One is encouraging!

I'm not good at these calculations, but just for shits and giggles, here's my working out:

PS4 (~199k) > Wii U (~49k) + 3DS (Between 115k and 100k?) + Wii (?)

199 - 115 - 49 = ~35k for Wii.

Now according to this:

All right all right.

Now that all the commotion has died down, I'll share the PS3 number.

Last April:

PS3: 100.7K

This April:

PS3: -65% YOY

PS3: -47% MOM

PS3 should be at ~35k too (100.7k x 0.35)

shinra-bansho was saying that the Wii could've sold between 0 and the upper limit of the PS4 > Wii U + 3DS + Wii calculation above, I just want to know whether that's true or not.

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
3DS at 106k? In the case, it's just a 6% drop YOY. Not what I was expecting after March numbers, quite down from 2013.

Actually, if 3DS really sold 106k this April

3DS March 2014 (5 weeks) 159,000 --> 31,800 units per week
3DS April 2014 (4 weeks) 106,000 (-33% MOM) --> 26,500 units per week (- 17% MOM)

...Strange, not the classic March to April drop, especially for 3DS, seeing 2012 and 2013 numbers.

P.S. in the case, 3DS and One almost crossed streams :lol

SCEA is doing really good work smothering that bastard child from Europe & Japan they despise so much.
That's another good reason to import a Vita instead of buying one domestically.
Reward the branch of Sony that actually gives a damn about it.

So, is it official that Vita is now the worst selling portable in the history of post-GameBoy portables?
In a world where the Nokia N-GAGE doesn't exist... possibly.

March 2013 had some notable 3DS games.

There wasn't really much in March this year, whereas April was fairly barren both years.

That said, when our starting base is about 100K, each 1000 units makes up a percent, so swinging notable percentages really doesn't change the actual unit count much.

Target has a $99 2DS sale IIRC, so given the numbers are so low to begin with, that might help May's stability.

In a world where the Nokia N-GAGE doesn't exist... possibly.
Uhhh...does anyone count that thing? It's gotta be even less than Tiger Electronics' Game.com. In any case, not good company to be in.

Lynx
Nomad
N-Gage
Neo Geo Pocket
Wonderswan

Nomad is a portable version of a home console, so it shouldn't count just as no one counts the PC-E/TG-16 Express. What's the WW LTD for Vita? Did it really top Wonderswan's ~3-4 million?

Yep. I platinumed the game within like maybe 15-20 hours. For a sandbox game, that's kinda short, IMO. The whole good vs evil didn't really change the story much except for the ending (which is only a minor change) and rather disappointed me. I really liked the game, and I really enjoyed it and had fun, but I've been telling people not to buy it at full price.
You really liked the game and had fun. That's the purpose of a game. So you're not recommending people to buy it to support the developer? Ok. It's just as long as the other infamous games.

Of course they'll make GTV for PS4/X1, it's what they're working on now.

Edit: You might not have the numbers, but could anyone confirm whether the Wii outsold the PS3? Seeing the 3DS numbers being calculated is making my mind swirl at the possibility.

Consoles are up 57% compared to last year.

When compared to the declining handhelds, the strength of the PS4 + Xbox One is encouraging!

Yep, so next time next gen comes around, we better not have people saying anything is on lockdown. Market leaders in the console industry swap around every gen.

All we know is that we don't know anything. Heck, at this point 8 years from now Nintendo could have the #1 console or the whole console industry may have changed so much that the idea of a console itself may become unrecognizable to today's definition of it.

WHAT!?!? Vita sold only 3-4k a whole month? Isn't that because of the new Vita 2k bundle and Bordelands 2 that is coming out? Otherwise that is hilariously sad that it's not selling anything anymore

WW LTD for Vita is slightly over 4 million from what I saw.

Right. Anyone so cocksure about who already won the gen from six months of sales needs to take a step back and realize that the past does not dictate the future and that the video game industry is nothing like it once was at any time previous.

Yes, the Vita wasn't available at retail in the US for the month. That's how they discontinued the 1000 model for the introduction of the new one.

Well, that's some kind of milestone, I guess. Vita's been nothing but a money pit from the start for Sony. I wonder if software sales to date have even come close to balancing their losses from a lack of hardware unit sales.

Sony already leading with 500k more consoles sold.

MS is going to have a tough battle. The Ps4 needs to stop selling in the next three month for MS to lead in ltd.

They took a very conservative road when designing the system, using off the shelf parts and shared components with PS3/PS4 for the OS. I don't see them making huge losses from something where they didn't make huge investments into in the first place.

Feel like we're finly hitting a point where the pent up launch hype /enthusiast purchases have slowed, and we can get a more accurate picture of console sales.

Don't wanna jump the gun on one month- but console sales definitely look to be slowing.

IMO the XB1 has been at that point since January, but yeah the PS4 is there now too. But still, if this is the "floor" then its not all bad.

Yup, stock was gone at most places in March, and April had even less.
May will have a boost now that all stores are restocked, but who knows how much.

PS3 seems to have fallen off a cliff, funny how the oldest last gen console in the 360 has outlasted both PS3 and Wii.

Hey guys, our console on life support, we have some great exclusives but all people think it has is ports, how can we fix this

We'll bundle our shiny new model with a port of one of the most boring games from last gen

Brilliant

Reading these numbers now, those "omgomgomg" posts about Infamous selling more than Titanfall XB1 are kinda funny. Looks like Infamous didn't sold that well overall. :/

The more I look at those LTD numbers in the US, the more I get the impression that it's going to be very difficult for Xbone sales to catch PS4 sales within the next couple years in US (if at all). It's really not an insurmountable gap for MS (about 18% lead for PS4), but it's a hell of a lot tougher when you start seeing the sales numbers drop to the low hundreds of thousands like this month. Hypothetically, if you flipped the script and had Xbone outselling PS4 by 50K a month (very unlikely, but let's do a best-case shits and giggles), it would still take MS 10 months just to close the gap!

Factor in the revelation that there will probably be a lot less dual PS4/Xbone owners this gen because of multiple subscription fees, and MS is already in a really tough spot as it relates to their strongest market.

Holy hell at Vita selling less than 5k, I love mine but the thing is just dead, especially in the west. Good for me that I like JRPGs, otherwise I would be mad sad ...

I'm on the final stage already.

My dreams, they are crushed. Plus I missed the fact Wii outsold the Wii U this time last year.

Feels bad, man.

Its all a question of money though. If someone only has 60 bucks to spend on games for the next few months, should they get a good game that gives them 15 hours of fun or a good game that gives them 40 hours of fun? It's obviously not always so simple but people just genuinely don't always have the money to buy every game they want/is worth buying.

I've started using GameFly to cut down on my game purchases to save money. Some games are just hard to justify buying when they're super short or have little replay value.

That means ~18k in April 2014 for Wii. That sounds about right the way it's been trending so far in 2014. 35k sounded way too high.

I asked earlier, but I'd be curious to see Wii U software LTD if you have that handy. Muchas gracias.

I don't know why everyone points to watch dogs as this system seller. It is on like 5 platforms and was downgraded for those old platforms. Also the game is late and any hype it had is well dead. It might sell nice on the PS4 and Xbone but that will because of the extreme drought of software on those platforms.
Because there is a Watch Dogs PS4 bundle... so even if it sells 20k units it will increase the sales in a 5-week month vs 4-month.

You can expect over 250k in May for PS4.
