The graphics look unreal. It's very cinematic and I love games like these that focus on story and atmosphere. They're the ones that I finish to the end.

I cant believe that they suddenly announced this out from the blue, played this 3 min action video twice on stuttery Twitch, and then NOTHING.

Whoever thought this would end up well [especially after blowup after last preview in Feb] needs to reevaluate his career. Zero coordination with other media, zero additional content that would better describe game. They should have waited for official preview NDA or E3 pressconf.

Devs really need to release some HQ footage at this point. The decision to stream it via twitch or release LQ footage via YT was a poor one...

I will never understand why Sony keeps showing off games where the main thing is good graphics using such means. It's just baffling.

Hell yes. Still looks like playable CGI, and very well animated too.

And, as usual, people nitpicking on every tiny detail of a brief glimpse of gameplay.

Maybe I"ll do it too:

-Too many mustached dudes, I don't know who's who.
-Too many guns to choose from, I'll get confused
-Lol so the whole level is just that confined alley till the building?
-Why do you need four AIs in your squad? Lame
-So every time you play for 1 minute, you get interrupted by a 5 second cutscene?

This game sucks.

And yet we have people trying to interject their love of games like Gears of War and compare Sunset Overdrive in this thread. Let's not get it twisted.

Wait, so you think GAF suddenly got an injection of Xbox fans? lol, where have they been all this time? Gah, I need to see this freaking trailer.

the video impressed the shit out of me.

the hate in here is quite strong and happens to parallel other threads. hmmm

Hmmmm nothing. The game footage today looked un remarkable. The consistency in hatred you see is because previous footage look just as bad if not worse.

Looks very pretty, and I like the character designs and narrative premise. But unfortunately I just don't think I can get excited about a linear cover shooter anymore. Totally ambivalent.

And again, people judge the media they're shown.

If people were blown away by how awesome this footage was would you be the first one to tell them they shouldn't expect the whole game to be awesome? Just that one part?

I don't get the whole "you only seen 3 minutes" nonsense.

It took only 2 minutes of a Super Mario Galaxy trailer to know that the game would be fucking awesome.

Chamber

love on your sleeve
If that was the idea, they could have accomplished that without releasing these teasers. I mean what were we going to do? Not wait patiently?

I don't see what's wrong with giving a quick glimpse of the game. The last preview they did generated a lot of discussion and so has this one. We have someone here from RAD saying they're happy with just that.

Holy crap you guys have written a ton. Still going through all of the comments here.

Regardless of good, bad, or everything else comments, I'm just glad to see people talking about our game again. I know it's generic for me to say "stay tuned for more information in the future...", but it'll come, and will hopefully answer a lot of your outstanding questions.

Now all aboard the hype train to E3!

Hehe good luck and ignore "OMG BORING" comment.

This could be another infamous SS. Where the internet may not like it that much ... but a game I will play till i get platinum. I love when games have wider FOV. Well paced, wider FOV ...is my type of game.

I tend to like action games where I dont need to use the right stick a lot to pan and move due to smaller FOV.

I have been on gaf long enough to know which one likes which console.

To no surprise, most of the shitting came from the green camp.

Anyway, game looks amazing, well no...game looks better that any game shown ever...on any console or PC for the matter. Has an amazing setting and atmosphere, fantastic animation and voice acting. I'll judge the rest when I play it myself.

I hate MS. This game kind of doesn't look good. Well Ok it LOOKS good (ignoring the performance for now) but the gameplay you know, the reason we like games, looks pretty poor.

I'd be interested in some open-level demos. These clips thus far have shown
some rather narrow and linear stages.

Some wider levels would be appreciated, as would some melee combat and
monster reveals from future footage.

While I agree, I think the stream was sufficient to demonstrate the incredible visuals. It's underselling it, but it still looks better than anything else.

Game looks awesome. We saw less than 5 minutes with the characters and yet we saw so much. We saw art design that was great, weapon design that was more fun than Insomnaic, good voice acting, the HUD, and lots of other little details. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for talking the time to read and respond to the thread.

Well, just watched it. It looks amazing graphically, but some of the effects look kinda weird, in comparison with everything else, which just looks so real.

The machine gun weapon (with that big spread) also looks, and sounds, really weird to me.
Still very much interested in this game, though. I love the setting.

The "generic" complaints make sense because so far the only major defining features of this game that set it apart from standard TPS gameplay tropes are its good graphics, unique setting, and... a QTE melee system.

Modern Resident Evil's "thing" is focus on co-op, score attack modes, weapon purchases and upgrades, and the stun->melee combat loop.
Dead Space has dismemberment and antigravity and upgrades.
Gears popularized and modernized the cover system as well as set the standard for competitive TPS multiplayer.
Mass Effect has class based upgrades, unlocks, and different powers based on class.
Uncharted has platforming and hand-to-hand melee combat.
Tomb Raider has... I dunno, platforming I guess. (not the best example, and I'm sure many would actually agree)
Sunset Overdrive has fast acrobatic traversal, superpowers and wacky weapons, and fighting hordes of enemies.
The Last of Us incorporates stealth and survival mechanics.

The Order has mustaches and letterboxing and really good looking leather and metal.

I'm sure that RAD has some hook in there that they want to show off, but they haven't yet.

Holy shit at those visuals ! People are incredibly hard to impress nowadays with graphics it seems.

So... 100-men strong Ready At Dawn is creating their first large game that will come out in the 1st year of nextgen in which they are trying to surpass cinematic action feel of Uncharted 2 [their words, not mine] by pitting 4 immortal Knights of the Round Table against ancient threat of supernatural werewolves who have manged to decimate humanity for more than 1000 years before modern science managed to reach Industrial Revolution which enabled humans to finally start fighting back. Using incredible visuals and glorious 4x MSAA, we will get to play through singleplayer-only, story and character focused game that will try to give us alternate history filled with horrors and suspense?

The bold can't be emphasized enough. If this is what a 100 man team who previously only made portable games / ports can pull out of PS4 then I salivate to think what someone like Naughty Dog will be able to achieve on the hardware.

I was expecting boring gameplay. Doesn't mean I'm happy my expectations were met.

Why should I care? Why don't I just not buy the game? Because Sony only has the resources to fund so many game a year, and I really wish they spent those resources on something more fun.

I feel like I have to explain in every single post that yes, I know this was a short trailer. If the full game turns out to be different than this trailer it could be great.

Give an example of some exciting gameplay compared to what you just saw ?

I thought it looked pretty cool, but would of liked to see some werewolf stuff too.. killing some werewolfs. But still, i liked what i saw

So from 3 minutes of poor quality video you've come to the conclusion that the game is boring??? Its obvious what your purpose on this thread is!

I'm making an impression based on what I've seen so far which = boring. I'm SO sorry that it goes against your own agenda enough to think that I'm some type of xbox spy with a "purpose". I hope that you have fun playing the game when it comes out, but right now I'm not impressed in the slightest.

If the job was simply to show that their graphics are better than anyone else's, mission accomplished.

I don't see how releasing a high quality version of the clip is going to change anyone's opinion on the gameplay itself.

Run Runnnnn!

I wouldn't worry about the feedback myself. Just look at the TLOU threads from E3 and such. It was the same thing.

I understand fully peoples " worry ". I could go grab 3 minute segments of TLOU and throw them up on Youtube and people would condemn it for being generic also. But we all know how that turned out.

The "generic" complaints make sense because so far the only major defining features of this game that set it apart from standard TPS gameplay tropes are its good graphics, unique setting, and... a QTE melee system.

True. Dunno about the fast traversal stuff in Sunset, as it seemed pretty slow paced to me. The main thing about everything there though, except Sunset, is that they are all great because of the overall package. Not individual sections made it great.

Gears isn't great because of the gunplay, the weapons, the animations, the scripted events, etc. It is great because of how well it all came together and how the action kept the game exciting. The Last of Us was great not because of the gunplay, the scripted events, the animations, the weapons, etc. It was great because of how well the entire package came together.

Same with Tomb Raider, Uncharted, and basically all of them. They don't have any real factors that pull people in immediately, it is just the overall package coming together just right ( Gears had Chainsaws and high detail models, thats about it at first )

The real question for me is how is all this going to come together. They have the engine, the physics, the cloth effects, the characters, the story, etc. Now, how are they going to mold it all together to create a thrilling 10 hour ride for us to partake in. That is what separates the GOTY third person action games, and the ones that get left in the dust.

I like what I'm seeing apart from the framerate and aiming. The thermite rifle's pretty unique in how it looks like you can fire a cloud above the enemy's cover and the falling dust can be set alight and then spread by shooting more dust.

Can't see much of the lightning gun from this footage. The pistol seems pretty standard, good for showing off the locational hit reactions on enemies at least. I hope a better video gets uploaded so we can judge the textures and lighting better.

While watching the video, I knew EXACTLY what kind of comments I was going to find on NeoGAF. This forum did not disappoint.

We get three minutes of scripted combat that realistically we've all "seen" before, and all of a sudden the sky has fallen in? If you aren't interested in shooters, I can't imagine anything we're going to be shown from here until release is going to convince you to buy this game. I haven't seen anywhere where RAD have said they are going for a reinvention of the wheel; and really why should they? If they can tell a good story, deliver a technically sound product and make it worth your 60 bucks - what more could you ask for?

Gameplay seems solid. Poor would be Mind Jack-ish.

I'd like to see bigger environments in the future. Feeling a bit claustrophobic
with whats been shown so far.

Any game can look boring in the wrong hands. I can take a game like DMC3, for instance, and spam stinger throughout the entire game. Does that make the game's mechanics shallow or clunky?

We've seen a tiny fraction of cover shooting gameplay, with regular cannon fodder standing in line for the kill (I blame the AI which didn't seem too good but there's still time to improve ) I doubt they would release it as it is..

We haven't seen how the destructibility affects gameplay, what the melee system looks like, what kind of enemies will face. Supernatural beings with greater agility would make for (a lot) more interesting fights.

We haven't seen a lot, and a lot of you are already dismissing a game that you probably had never intended to buy in the first place. The majority of people aren't expecting a revolution everytime a game comes. Evolution is incremental, minus some rare exceptions. I just want something that plays good, looks and feels good. Nothing wrong with that.

Except from the wonky AI (could be easy mode for all we know) , I don't see any major red flags about this game. Will people flip out when uncharted 4 , TLoU 2 or Halo 5 are shown to play the exact same way as their predecessors? Cause right now a lot of the complaints seem to stem from the fact that "it's another cover based shooter".

Release date please
Looks like a great consolation prize for no new uncharted this year

Wait, so you think GAF suddenly got an injection of Xbox fans? lol, where have they been all this time? Gah, I need to see this freaking trailer.

They have been freed from their kinect overlord

The Victorian setting is awesome, not sure why people gloss over that (I know you mentioned it). I agree with the people who say that the way they're showing off this game is poor. I'm hoping for a "The Last of Us" moment at E3.

Haha! That would actually be quite accurate IF the previews and E3 blow us away. If this turns out to be a damp squib, I'm going to be a very sad panda. Fingers crossed!

I think the graphic/atmosphere/character design/weapon design already blew me away.
They need to work those dialogue and the sound mixing of it, it sound too "studio" quality, maybe they separate the mocap section with voice recording.
That Lafayette jump over a window "ummmm argh" at the beginning sound very out of place.
(extreme nitpick)
I guess TLOU spoiled me on those thing. They really need to learn a lot from ND. ND know how to show their game and wow people.

Hey OneLetter, I think once you look past some hyperbolic statements you will find some very good and genuine criticism. It is not to bring you guys down, but more like to assist you. For example, using twitch and YouTube is doing a grave dis service to this game.

That's performance though, not really how pretty it looks.

Why is it different? You don't think people care about games stuttering a lot? Because if you were watching the stream you had a lot of people commenting on this. Some of them will go sleeping today thinking that's how the game will actually perform. It's just completely unnecessary and incredibly shortsighted of Sony. I would rather have them end this trend.

The video on youtube doesn't look that good, but it could be a compresion problem. Gameplay looks like what I expected about the game, so no problem there. As long as they have good visuals, gameplay is solid and the story is good I'll be really satisfied.

Hope the game is not full of 1 meter tall walls for cover. I'd like if they actually try to hide them :p

It just looks fun to me? I haven't played Ratchet and Clank. It combines a lot of things to what looks like an enjoyable package. The Order 1886 looks like a piece of shit in a nice package to be honest. Exactly the kind of gaming experience I loathe.

Sunset Overdrive looks IMO like a mix between Ratchet and Clank and Infamous. Which is not a bad thing at all.
