I'm not going to even attempt to make any sort of judgment on the gameplay based off such a short clip but the game does certainly look the part.

Having said that, Sony/RAD would be idiots not to upload the direct footage somewhere because the quality of that stream was appalling.

Man, that looked boring :(.

I mean, it looked 'nice' (even then, it looked like it was having issues running; reasonable considering this is still not finished yet, but point still stands) and it looks like it can be fun...but it looks so generic and bland.

Everything is grey and dark, the weapons don't look that unique (isn't that the point of this twisted setting?), and the gameplay really looks like a carbon copy of gears of war minus the co-op.

I loved Ready at Dawns work the the PSP God of Wars (hell, Ghost of Sparta is in my mind the best game in the series :D) but....I don't know, maybe they need more time to show off more unique gameplay mechanics?

With their work on Daxter, CoO, and GoS they took existing games (Jak 1 and God of War 2/3 respectively) and made damn fine products with that mold. Here, they don't have a winning formula to work with; they have to make something all on their own.

Making Video Games must be one hell of a hard job, let alone original concepts, but if you are taking an existing one (Gears of War here), then spice it up with new features and innovations to make it specail and unique.

Tons of games do this like RPG's, Actions games, Platformers and so on, where they have a common gameplay mold but twist and turn it into unique products that can be really special.

With The Order....while it is still too early to tell (...the game might be delayed into next year like DriveClub :(; Sony isn't afraid to reset or shut down half-finished projects...just look at Sigs game X(), it really looks like Order might be just another TPS.

That isn't a bad thing, notably if it is done very well, but new generation is supposed to be filled with really creative and new styles of gameplay to really set it apart from past generations. All we have seen so far is that games can look and run better.....sure, games like Infamous have shown that can really add to the game (I mean, just LOOK at those powers man :D!), but there needs to be gameplay innovations that can ONLY be possible with stronger hardware.

I don't know, but I hope this game looks better; love Ready At Dawns work :(.

I've been on gaf for quite a while, this is not a new thing. I actually enjoy reading the hyperbole, and seeing how others either support or try to tear it apart.

Also, the stream portion is just something new. Sure, streaming quality wasn't fantastic since it's not a perfect technology, but there's plenty of time to release full high quality videos down the road. We can also start focusing on the aspects many gaffers in this thread have asked to know more about, and try to answer those questions and inquiries as best as we can.

So keep with the chatter, I always try to read all of it.

Thanks for your feedback here. I hope you guys nail the A.I as well as the graphics engine here. One of the most looked over thing in the next gen talk is that we are not really seeing any real advancement in A.I from 1 gen to next, compared to other tech and visuals. I hope RAD has some kick ass A.I as its really hard to see from these short clips.

Second, please keep these sequences where its a cut scene-20 secs gameplay-cutscene loop to the minimum. So far its not looking good as in both the short gameplay videos, too many cut scenes happen after every short gameplay.

Thirdly, I really really hope there is some exploration in this game as the atmosphere is so ripe for it. I really want to go and explore some areas and find clues and what not for the game to progress. I know this is probably too late but maybe hopefully for the sequel.

Finally, please have some co-op mode.

Also delay the game if its not ready for 2014. I know I'll get crap for this but rather have a great new IP than an OK new IP.

I don't think Sony/RAD have shown us enough of the game for them to be concerned about our reaction to it. The only real reason to put out teaser trailers is to get the product's name out there. A tepid reaction to a full preview might be more cause for concern but even then, I'm not sure how much that means in the real world. Watch Dogs is still going to sell by the truckload regardless of how many pages we spend talking about E3 2012 bullshots.

The only teaser trailer we have is the original reveal, and it was the only one done right. What we've got today and in Feb are hardly even trailers, more like small chunks of gameplay taken out of context and thus completely uninteresting. A proper teaser trailer would be welcome.

Whenever I watch these early gameplay videos I'm trying to get a sense of what I'll be doing - as the player - and the kind of choices I'll make, either from moment to moment or as part of a longer term strategy.

In this video, with me as the player, I watch a cut-scene which then puts me into a firefight on street level. Cover to the left with allied AI using it, cover to the right with allied AI, and cover forward in the street with another allied AI using it. I guess I'd use the big ole empty cover in the middle for this firefight then.

Now, I'm behind cover, what are my choices? There doesn't seem to be any real need to advance as the enemies are all at height, and no reason to look for alternative cover spots for angles or defensive moves since nothing the enemy is doing looks to affect me here. So my choices are really in which order to take the enemy positions down in.

Once that's done the game literally asks you to fire your special weapon attack into the building's second floor so you can see a canned explosion and advance the checkpoint forward.

Then policeman guy gets downed and you're asked to attend to him. You get to move up and hit triangle, at which point you're now stuck on rails while a line of enemies will walk on to a rooftop in the open and fire on you at point blank range with their pistols. The choice here is the same, to prioritize who to shoot, only now you've got no cover to work with.

Once you take down those enemies in whatever order since they're all the same, you get another cut-scene and the story moves forward.

So, as a showcase of visuals, this video is fine. As a showcase for gameplay, nothing that's come out for this game looks engaging in the slightest. No interesting choices to be made whatsoever.

If there's a fun game in there, I'd love to see it at some point.

To quote Jay-Z,
"Thank god for giving me this moment of clarity, this moment of honesty, the world'll feel my truth."

no but there was colour

depends if its a main street or a back alley

I like historyGAF

Yeah, and I'm sure that will feature somewhere in the game. I agree that maybe they aren't showcasing the most exciting looking areas but it can be considered accurate to the time and setting and moreover, it all seems to be from the same area. Maybe later in the game you'll get in some Montgolfier brothers-esque hot air balloon and rain down electrically charged death from a basket hanging off a Fabergé egg.

If this was a 2.5hr game, this video would represent only 1% of the gameplay. It's longer than that, so maybe shelve the "gameplay looks boring" comments until you get a proper showcase. PEACE.

I imagine what weve seen so far is from the first 30 mins of gameplay trying to keep lore and whatever effect the monsters are supposed to have on us running strong when we finally play. so far this looks like the basic beginning tutorial style learn the mechanics part of the game nothing more. i dont get why so many people are so eager to arms.

Thanks man. Watching this beautiful game on a crappy stream is like eating a soggy Doritos Taco, ya know. Cant really enjoy it without the crunch ;-)

I will agree with others tho about the way they handled this. RaD doesn't have the pedigree in the AAA space to put on small bits of trailers like this and expect it to sell off of that alone.

If there is anything, or any sort of swerve....they should hint at it.

It looks nice, really nice, but why do they keep showing completely generic boring gameplay :(
It might be great as a babby's first shooter, but for me I feel like I played this hundred of times already.

I am actually curious about this. Did RAD ever specify how long this game will be?

I'd like a lengthy game, to the tune of perhaps 15-20 hrs of story related gameplay.
Infamous Second Son is criminally, especially when compared with the other games
in the series.

I will never buy a game that short at or close to full retail price ever again.

How come Sony marketing can do 10 minutes plus demos for GoW, Uncharted, and the Last of Us; but when it comes to the Order 1886 and Drive Club (most of the time), they're content with simply showing two-three minute videos?

That's what I've been wondering too. I think RAD simply doesn't want to share any of the big moments, yet. Either it's not up to snuff or they don't want to spoil things. Add to that the pressure of launching in a few months and they have no time to cut a proper demo.

as a Gears fan, i actually think this looks interesting. I don't need every game to reinvent their genres. This looks like an interesting setting for Gears type gameplay. I really wish it had mp though.

no but there was colour

There's the exact same colours in the video.

Red and Green shop fronts, gold and white lettering, tan and red brick buildings, and pastel blue sky interrupted by smoke from chimney stacks.

They've made it moody in the game, but the colour choice is spot on.

It's a 90sec teaser. Why would they unveil innovative game mechanics in a low key release? PEACE.

so where are the destructible environments they've been touting about?
that sign should be absolutely destroyed.
sure, the art and graphics are gorgeous, but there's nothing cinematic or dynamic about not effecting the surroundings.

I'm seeing a curious tendency here from some users last days.

DriveClub? soulless.
The Order? boring.

What have another generic tps that makes it special?

Doc Holliday

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
I think it's funny that we get way more fps and open world games than we get tps games yet everyone is bitching about the order.

It depends on what you like. I would take gears, and uncharted over any ass creed, or gta game.

Thanks man! Its like eating a soggy Doritos Taco, ya know. You cant enjoy it without the crunch ;-)
Fuck, that analogy sums it up perfectly for me! Had my first Cool Ranch one the other weekend and the fucking bottom fell out when i started to slide it out the paper holder. Deep sadness.

They can't keep delaying otherwise their platform will have no killer apps.

Colors would not be faithful to a 1886 Victorian London.

Yea it would, they did have paint and coloured fabric back in 1886. (most of which was toxic)

this game looks frustrating, enemies that are hard to see and weapons that look hard to shoot and aim, it just looks like a game that's not fun.

Sony needs to get this game out ASAP so that they at least wont have any competition on the market.

Watched it again, the AI is astonishingly bad. I refuse to believe this footage is representative of final gameplay. If it is...yeesh.

It kinda makes me hope it's a 2015 game at this point. I'm excited about a lot of what it has to offer, but I suspect it'll be a much better game if it's got another 9 months to go, instead of 5.

Ignore them. It's mostly hyperbole and concern trolling based on snippets of footage.

In the case of Drive Club, feedback has highly positive as of late, due to the recent
info blowout. The Order just needs some substantial footage showing greater diversity
in combat, enemies and environmental design.

I'm pretty sure that's part of the structure itself. I could be wrong.

They'll probably be as destructible as the environments were in infamous ss. Yea anyone remember that? Guess destructible environments means the same gate with platforms.

Hard to say anything about it with the shitty video that is floating around. It looks like a shooter with some nice graphics (squinting here), cool weapons, and setting. Nothing new, but games like Wolfenstein show they don't have to be to entertain.

I don't like that the footage I've seen has been them fighting humans the whole time.

From the teaser to screen/bull shots w/e they were with the atmosphere they were showing I just thought we were going to be getting a different kind of game than what they've shown so far. Hope to see some other stuff @ E3.

Damn. Thanks for quoting. Looks like I double posted when the bottom fell out of GAF a few minutes ago lol

Strong reminders of Spec Ops with the running dialogue during combat which is no bad thing, and I loved the demonstration of the action-during-cinematic (shooting while helping drag the sergeant into the building) which for me looks like it'll be a real immersion-enhancer.

I'm not burned-out on TPS cover shooters, and I rarely expect any game to re-invent the wheel. Gameplay to me looked solid, probably the kind of game that is more fun to play than watch despite the visuals being completely out there - I'm looking forward to getting access to decent bband speed again so I can actually watch a 1080p vid without it taking eons to stream.

Still hugely hyped for this, looking forward to the press stuff next week and since this is coming pre-E3 am expecting some truly huge things from Sony in June.

Looks very nice, but I kinda wish Sony and RAD would release a chunky section of uninterrupted footage showing things other than shooting. Get a good 12 minute trailer out there showing the environment, player interactions, a couple of different enemy designs, and so on.

I think the general perception is that this game game doesn't have a "hook". Something to make it apart from the other tps on the market. Like platforming in uncharted, setting it apart from gears, for instance.

We haven't seen the supernatural aspects of the game and the weird creatures (and how they affect gameplay).
If the player is fighting werewolves he doesn't need cover, so I guess there has to be more depth to the shooting/moving mechanics.

RE6 with cover is boring, RE6 with sliding and rolling is awesome. Max payne 3 with cover is boring, Max Payne 3 with agressive shooting/BT/shootdodging is awesome. Vanquish, the same. It's like two different games.

I was expecting a bit more in terms of destruction and the whole soft body physics, but it's still early to tell. I still think they haven't shown us their "hook" yet, but I'm guessing the combat is a lot more complex than what we saw, based on the supernatural aspect of the game.

Yeah, there is something odd about the effects when he is shooting that sign. No visible damage being done, just sparks and some really peculiar looking smoke. While the visuals in general are impressive, the gameplay and stuff like this is anything but.

Well the graphics look good and the setting looks interesting..

That's all I got.

I'm hoping the game is more than that.. the setting deserves more than just to act as a wrapper for a TPS military shooter.

This has been my biggest disappointment so far, from the E3 trailer I thought it was based around Vampires and Werewolves or something, but so far nope.

Was kinda of hoping it wouldn't be a straight up shooter as well.

This is just an early video for a game that still is on development, is hard to have a real idea of how it will improve, is like a half baked /roasted Panini , it could look "meh" but once the cheese start to melt it really will look / taste very good.

Game just need time .

DC criticism has also included gems along the line of 'It's just racing round tracks! How bland!'.

It seems incredible, but I'd rather they had just not shown this if it was going to be such a shitty quality stream. Give me direct feed footage on the PS Blog like how Evolution has been doing with DC.
