I know we shouldn't take amazon websites as a market indicator but...

Wii U standard budle out of stock on amazon jp??? Also ranking higher than it did during Xmas if I remember correctly???

Huh? They got stocks for all bundles. Unless you mean the OG Premium Pack, which got replaced by the Wii Sports Club bundle a few weeks ago.

About mobile data, I'd really prefer to have it in a separate thread... unless MC/Famitsu start tracking mobile sales, doesn't really make sense to have those here. I see a lot of "yeah, mobile is really important now" posts... well in that case, a dedicated would make more sense, instead of shoehorning data in here.

Thanks for the whole part about mobile stuff Nirolak! I'd like to see that kind of info too, since mobiles are now an esential part of the industry in Japan.

Does Agito has controller support? And do you know how MHP2ndG is doing on iOS/Android?

Please keep the news coming, your posts about digital and smartphone performances are one of the reasons why I revisit the threads.

Btw. How the hell does PvD work without a real account system? How do it handle all the iAP? Let's say I play it on my Android for hundred of hours and spent a bunch of money on it... If I loose my phone, is there a way to get all the stuff back?

And there is still no official release of the game on the european Play Store - how can they justify not releasing the game in one of the biggest Android markets. Don't they like euros?
Each, user account has its own unique ID (9 numbers) which is also used for adding friends. I'm not really sure about android as I only play it on iOS (iPhone/iPad), but on iOS you have the option of having your data/ID backed up to the cloud if you want so it can be restored onto your device in case of loss, etc.

When moving from device to device (e.g. You bought a new phone) in game you can request a change device code(valid for a week.) On the new device when you start up the game for the first time you can input your ID and that code into the game and you will have successfully moved the account to the new device.

This is going off of the JP iOS version... I haven't tried any of the English non-iOS versions so things may be slightly different.

For Monster Hunter:
iOS Rank: 48 (Peak Rank: 11)
Android Rank: N/A (not on Android)
This is a port of MHP 2nd G with a few alterations to make it work better on a phone. It has no IAP so I would expect it to taper off pretty quickly overall once everyone who wants it already owns it. It has a 4.4 star rank though with the vast majority of those being 5's and the rest mostly being 4's, so its word of mouth is currently carrying it to new buyers. It's the top selling paid app currently, which is a chart I believe is ranked by units sold. Notably, it's the only paid app in the top 100 grossing games. It will be interesting to see how Monster Hunter Smart, a version of monster hunter designed ground up as a social-mobile game, compares sales wise.

I see a lot of sub 100k predictions for Wii U. I don't want to call you guys crazy, because you're probably making a safe bet to be pessimistic when it comes to Wii U hardware numbers, but god damn... if Kart is unable to push at least 100k units, that's downright sad.

That's the basic set, the cheaper one.

If people prefer to buy that one instead of having 2 games bundled it could mean that they are planning to buy MK8 and the system and then reselling them

All I'm seeing is Zelda going from a million seller to sub 300k. In fact it declined from GCN --> Wii so I don't see this recovery at all.

Handheld Zelda is also declining.

I'll quote myself:

We've been through this a lot of times, second Zelda on the same console and requiring an addon, Majora also sold considerably less than its predecessor. The next installment recovered somewhat:

Code:
N64 1998-11-21 3343 The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time Nintendo 0 1,143,570
N64 2000-04-27 3368 The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Nintendo 0 [B]601,542[/B]
GCN 2002-12-13 904 The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Nintendo 6800 [B]742,609[/B]
Wii 2006-12-02 87 The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Nintendo 6800 552,476
Wii 2011-11-23 5333 The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Nintendo 6800 297,441

The next first Zelda on a new console sold more than the second Zelda on the previous one. Which is why we can't just assume the next Zelda will sell as much or less than SS.

Of course WW still was a decline over Ocarina (massive even, which I referred to in my post as a steep fall, although that might be fitting PS2/PSP to PS3 more than it does Zelda), but you can't say the franchise has been reduced to 300k. That would be misreading the data.

Just noticed that Infamous Second Son has a Cero Z rating in Japan, wha? That game isn't brutal at all. Is the japanese rating system that strict when it comes to harming civilians? Because that and the drug references are really the only thing I can think of.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
This is a good q uestion. I'm unsure. The people in the OT might have the best answer.

As for why the game isn't on Android in Europe, that's also a good question given it's charting decently on iOS in the US now so it seems like something compatible with the West.

Well there has to be an official stance why the game isnt out in europe...right ? I mean yes they are making money like crazy, but wouldnt this be the kind of no-brainer action stakeholders would be pushing for ? Just feels so weird, that they just ignoring the market.

btw. I also would be interested in new information about Wonder Flicks performance, from what i`ve seen L5 keeps pushing the games with TV ads and also introduces popular characters from other IPs like Yokai Watch in promotions. Their last Level 5 Vision event was pretty much all about their mobile/f2p games so the expectation are very high i would guess.

Thanks for the clarification, doesnt sound too bad honesty. Overheard some guys in the iOS thread strictly refusing to play the game because there was no form of cloud-support - maybe they patched that in recently ?

GC ---> 742k
Wii ----> 552k
Wii ----> 297k

There has been no recovery for the past 12 years. Just decline. Japan just doesn't care for Zelda especially on consoles as much as it used to.

They still care - SS had a lackluster performance everywhere not just in Japan considering the huge Wii installed base. The forced motion-controls didnt click with a big part of the audience.

Sure but its a fraction of what it used to be. It kind of reminds me of Gran Turismo in Japan, though GT was even more notable since GT1,2,3 and 4 were all million sellers.

Million sellers selling 300-500k.

Why this is the case and obviously the console market has been shrinking ever since the last generation i dont think SS is the best example for a tradition console Zelda performance.

Lets be honest, they alienated a big part of potential customers when they botched its initial unveil and Miyamoto not being able to control the game right. Not to mention that they released the game at a time when the Wii had already established its identity as a joke for many console gamers the answer wasnt a motion-controlled Zelda game which also required the M+ addon. Not too mention that all console Zelda with the exception of Majoras Mask were released at the height of the specific systems popularity. I dont think OoT would have sold as much on the N64 if they had released it in 2000/2001 instead of 98.

It under performed everywhere while TP was selling and being sold at full price for more than 5 years we had retailers dropping SS price a couple months after its release. Not saying that taking SS as example is wrong, but i would be more willing to accept the overall drop when a tradition console ala 3D Zelda ala OoT/TP would sell only 300k.

A PH/Spirit Track successor on the 3DS probably would also have trouble selling more than 300K nowadays while OoT 3D was able to sell over 500k, Injecting "casual" friendly controls in Zelda was a fad and its over.

Right now according to a Vita game COMG archive (on the forums of the site that shall not be named) Freedom Wars is the 13th most pre-order Vita game of all-time and still has 32 days to go.

Vita is saved, Monster Hunter.. oh wait. Well, it's a start isn't it? :)

Also, Freedom Wars is coming in a month. I wonder when will the demo come out, as far as I recall, the demo date was supposed to be announced on the 22nd of May.

Yeaaaaaaah, no.

Skyward Sword had the sales it had because :

1) it launched really late in the Wii life, and lots of people had already put the console in their closet by the time it came out (and casuals had already started moving away to mobile games)
1a) unless I remember correctly, lots of publishers had already moved away from the Wii by then... even Nintendo, with less and less frequent releases.
2) as already pointed out, game needed an accessory to be played, which hurt sales even more.

1) being they key reason here. Lots of people, especially "gamer", had already moved away.

I really doubt the E3 reveal had a huge impact (it didn't help, I'll grant you that).

Every new 3D Zelda game past OoT is a really bad Zelda game until the next really bad Zelda game is released and the previous one "isn't so bad" anymore. We've been through this cycle 3 times.

It's finally being released, huh? Would have been much more interesting for sales-age if we ever got a revenue comparison between all versions of MHF. Without one there is nothing to talk about. We will probably just get a couple (dozens) of "now bring the real thing to vita, Capcom" in that week's thread.

It still has a retail ala PSO2 version, right?

Once Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate and Samurai Warriors 4 release, the PS4 will have the last installments on all the Warriors sub-series, right?

Hopefuly new versions will release on the same day on PS4, 3 and Vita (and maybe X1 too?)

MHFG isn't going to sell well on Vita. I didn't sell on PS3, so I can't see why it would do better there. It's an ancient always-online MMO that shouldn't be taken as an indicator as to how a proper MH would perform.

And yes, it's getting a retail release on the same day.

Did they ever keep making Medarot RPG games like the two on the GBA? I absolutely loved those!

You mean the games with the relay battle system? Yes, that's a trait of the mainline games. The one RPG we got localized on GBA was a remake of Medarot 2.

I'm not sure how recent it is. I had my iphone account for awhile and I just started up my ipad account at the end of last year. When I first started up the game on my ipad it asked me if I wanted to use the same account as the one I already had on my ipad. (I am using the same Apple ID on both of them.) I ended up starting up a new account on it instead, but it gave me the option as I had icloud support enabled.

edit: Just checked around a bit and it seems that the function was added this past January. Restoring from icloud. (site is in Japanese)

Seems like with Android you can connect it to your Google account.
