BATTLEFIELD HARDLINE COMING THIS FALL

On behalf of everyone at EA and Visceral Games, I’m fired up to confirm our next project – Battlefield Hardline. The game launches this fall and it’s a brand new series in the Battlefield franchise, set against the backdrop of a genre we all love – the war on crime and the battle between cops and criminals.

Several years ago, I was at an internal EA meeting in Barcelona with creative leaders from across the company. It was there I met Karl Magnus Troedsson, the GM of DICE, for the first time, and we immediately began talking about games – I’ve always loved Battlefield and KM was a huge fan of Dead Space, which I was working on at the time. We started talking about different ways we could work together, different ways we could take Battlefield and action games in a new direction. It was then that this project that became Battlefield Hardline was born.

There’s been a lot of buzz today about Battlefield Hardline – we’re getting ready for E3 and fans found some details on our website about what we’re working on for the show. We’ve been reading all of your comments and we’re excited to be going into more detail soon on the ways we’re adding new twists and turns to the foundation of Battlefield multiplayer and more about how we’re bringing our strengths at Visceral to single player.

I hope you’ll join us for the official world premiere on June 9 at Noon PDT, and sign up for updates on the new game at our web site www.battlefield.com/hardline.

you speak so well
Leaks forced their hand, they had to reveal something even if it's just a pretty pointless teaser site.

Im really hoping that this ends up being something along the lines of Rainbow Six, but Im expecting it to basically be a full game around the "close quarters" expansions, or in other words, COD.

Why did I think EA was going to a three year cycle with their FPSes?

2014: Titanfall
2015: Battlefront (3)
2016: Battlefield 5

Hmm. But I guess waiting till 2017 to release the next Titanfall would be a serious drought for those who want the Titanfall sequel on the PS4.

Vehicles are in. I wouldn't compare this to COD. I'm thinking Payday/TF2 style of gaming.

Going to rent this first and see if the destruction is remotely close to that of BFBC2. If it's any less no thank you

I wonder if the "I never buying an EA game again" people will buy this after BF4.

It will be very interesting to see the state of this game at launch. If its as broke as BF4 was, I will weep for the future of this industry.

Hope its a good diversion from the main games like bad company.

I'm hopeful. Bf4 was my favorite game last year and put almost 200 hours in.

Besides the cops and robbers thing I fail to see any connection this would have with Payday gameplay. For one, this will no doubt be focused on Online Versus whereas Payday is focused on Online Co-op, also I don't recall ever being able to drive a vehicle in Payday, just sit in one every now and then.

The sons of bitches did it.

After buying Battlefield 3/4 and being disappointed, I'm all in for this.

If anything, we may have more focused battles that made Bad Company 2 so great. If the Swat team is anything to go by, I'd assume matches will be on a smaller scale (Without losing the epic feel, ala Bad Company 2).

EDIT:

I don't understand the Payday vibe. Isn't Payday just co-op online, focused on missions, rather than competitive multiplayer? I can't see the connection.

so am I guessing they are making a 2 year plan schedule

the next mainline Battlefield for one year

a spinoff for the next year

They've already said they plan to rotate BF, TF, and Battlefront. Next year is probably going to be all about Battlefront.

2015 will likely have both Battlefront and Battlefield 5.

By "rotation", they mean "line-up" as opposed to annual rotation.

They afterwards clarified that they felt they could release all three franchises within the same fiscal year.

Looking forward to it! This is the first time I've been so excited to see a Battlefield game. The premise is too interesting to pass up.

I think I'm gonna get hyped for this.

It's different enough for a BF game and not made by DICE. So it has a decent chance of not being a beta for 5 months.

So I take it we'll be seeing a battlefield game every year now? Sounds tiring... however I dig this new direction!

They've been pretty clear that Battlefield is headed toward annualization so that means Battlefront is moving somewhere.

You think so? The movie is out around Christmas though... Would be better to launch in November for marketing synergy methinks, but them I suppose well be hearing about SW almost every week next year (you know, with actual news), so it doesn't really matter.

Will probably be a May game now that I'm thinking about it.

Maybe they'll pull a fast one on us and have Battlefront ready by May 2015.

Yeah, if they're showing it at E3, I see no reason to rule that out.
