Last month saw some contenders for the Indie GOTY list and june doesnt seem to slack off either. From initially 90 titles, I cut down the june list to 50, making it a very condensed list with many interesting looking titles. There are quite a few more expensive ones in there too, but I really hope we get at least one impression on those as well, since one or the other poster (myself included) would probably be interested in using YOUR opinion as a reason to buy or not buy those games. So come in, random lurker, and discuss games with us :p

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
| 3.5 Quick Note about Formatting |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you want to suggest a game that has recently released or that looks interesting, but hasnt released yet, please follow the following formatting structure so the post is picked up by Toma-Bot:

Released games:
TITLE - PRICE (PLAT)
LINK

DESCRIPTION TEXT
Not yet released games:
TITLE - PLAT
LINK

DESCRIPTION TEXT

Copy the appropriate content and add the proper information for the black writing. Please only include 1 link and 1 image. I tried making it a bit failsafe, so it should be able to deal with 2 links or images as well, but 1 is safer.

If the game is free, then put "Free" as the price, otherwise please use $ or € for the price. You can also include more than one game per post (like the Screenshot saturday posts), but please stick to the above format for every entry.

If someone posts a non-proper formatted post, I'd appreciate if you could repost the game with the same info in the proper format.

I noticed there are a few noteworthy, and relatively unknown, projects that deserve a shoutout here because I feel that they share a common interest with the people in this thread. I talked to the guy from Pixabyte and MetaVendetta and both are very enthusiastic about the things they love and figured you might appreciate the shoutout as well. If you enjoy anything here or want to give feedback, let these guys know via their websites or also here in this thread. If you appreciate something, let people know. A heads up can sometimes very valuable.

This is a monthly podcast series that presents notable Indie Game soundtracks. A likeable host and guests, a fantastic track selection, interesting discussions and a focus for Indies will make this one a mainstay in my monthly threads.

My very own, highly amateur game impressions YT channel. Its a bit of self-pimping, but since I only make videos for games of this thread, I think it might as well be included here.

Dandy - ????

http://dandygame.tumblr.com/

What is Dandy?If you’re a gamer the answer is sort of easy because genre names and game comparisons are inherently easy to describe, “Dandy is a horizontal schmup done as a rogue-like” or “Dandy is a slowed down, pensive Gradius.”“Dandy is a game where you kill monsters by solving puzzles.” I think that gets closer but it’s also kind of confusing. Dandy isn’t a puzzle game “You’re a candy wizard fighting hordes of monsters to discover new ingredients,” doesn’t even scratch the surface of what Dandy is

http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=40555.0

An Atmospheric WW1 ExperienceThis game is about the daily routine in the Trenches of the First World War. You play as Fritz, a German soldier on the Western Front. Most of the gameplay is compromised of everyday activities like guard duty, getting food, talking to your fellow soldiers. Attacks are sparse, but deadly and challenging. The main aspect of the game is character development, both of Fritz and of his comrades. Each of them is shaped by interaction with others and the things they're going through. Your comrades can die practically randomly during attacks, but the longer they survive, and they closer they get to Fritz, the better their chances of survival as everyone helps each other.

And 4th, thread is now open. Have fun with the june games everyone :)

Quick note about the vote results: Echo of the Wilds clinging that top spot (together with Cross Code) is absolutely lovely and deserved, but I am kind of marvelling at the fact that a 2 minute game like The Last Night can land in our voting top 6 for a month too. I really wished they had any plans to make it into a proper game.

Alright, thread is now filled with content. Same deal as always, if you find any errors in the OP, please post it here in the thread (so not everyone is spamming me with the same issue via PM) and I'll check it tomorrow.

Also: Theme of the June thread is "Better than the screenshot makes it look!"

Seriously, dont get discouraged from trying these games. 400 days for example is a very interesting game idea despite the screenshot looking rather bad. Same thing I heard about Always sometimes monsters and 8BitBoy for example, just to name the first few.

Among the Sleep feels a bit disappointing so far. Played for over an hour and the gameplay is extremely barebones, just stumbling around picking up a few items in mostly linear corridors.

isn't 400 years not a new release? (I recall trying it last summer on newgrounds)

Some of those were a bit older, but I dont shy away from featuring games in these threads which we missed last year (which means its not unreasonably old). Sometimes it takes a while for an Indie Game to come here, and I dont want to take away their chances of ever being featured here just because I/we missed their release.

400 Years would be ten times better if the idol moved just a little faster. Given how much of that game is reliant on you observing changes in different location and going back and forth between them mean that the statues zombie shuffle steps are agonizing after a bit.

Just a note about Freedom Planet, it was delayed for about a month to ensure everything would be ready and tested. So the new release date at the moment is June 30th. There might be another delay depending on what happens, but Strife's been working his butt off, so, we'll see.

I wonder how much of a focus there will be on indies this E3. Last year, Sony really gave indies the spotlight.

Yeah, I dunno. They kinda got a lot of stuff out of the way by announcing all those ports a few weeks ago. I can't imagine they'd stop pursuing that avenue, so maybe we'll be seeing some surprise announcements. I loved the indie screen gallery they had last year so I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

Impression and stuff:

1. A Story About My Uncle - Beautiful to look at, a joy to play with a couple of iffy story moments. A Story About My Uncle invites players to explore its world and its mechanics and rewards you for both.
2. Astebreed - Review is coming soon. But this is serious fun (if a little expensive? I'm on the fence)
-------------------------
3. TIMEframe - Unique premise and pretty haunting. It's a walking simulator so YMMV.
4. Wormhunter - Updated version is live which increases the difficulty a fair bit. Very tense, awkward controls.

5. Kitsuni - Point and click (ish) - meh.

Yeah, these look like they could be genuinely frightening. But still a bit lacking in a way.

It's kind of like... either it's a tightly scripted narrative experience with gameplay as second place (and the story isn't usually that great anyway), or a survival scavenger hunt à la DayZ.

It all feels a bit repetitive.

Here's hoping Routine and DreadOut are a bit more substantial. The latter's been getting generally good impressions, no?
