Longish THR article on Tyrant's production struggles.

- THR: Turmoil on 'Tyrant': The Dramatic Backstory of FX's Middle East Epic

"I expected it to be hard," says FX Networks CEO John Landgraf. "But if you want easy, go to a channel that's just chasing after other people's work and ripping it off."

Shots fired!

But yeah, I was interested before (FX, etc.) but now that I've read that article I'm hyped as fuck. The article makes it sound like it could be one of the best shows of the year or a total disaster (they really didn't know what kind of show it was going to be past the pilot? The fuck?).

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
It sounds like I should be happy that Raff walked away from the project if he was pushing for it to be more of a soap opera. That's not at all what had me interested in the series. I'm not sure how well they can pull it off, but it's the political stuff that I want to see explored. Obviously family drama comes with the territory of a Middle Eastern dictatorship, but I wouldn't want only that with the politics being unimportant background material.

Watched Power pilot. I liked it. I was expecting that it would be bad and cliched, but in reality it was good. Not good-good, but good show to watch in the summer and enjoy it.
Some interesting stuff that i liked. Quality wise it's pretty close to Black Sails. I'm in.
Ratsky, i'm waiting for your OT.

Jennifer Falls started last night, a few laughs but it was neither great nor good.

Uh-Oh, Eva Amurri showed up in the fourth episode of Undateable.
Undateable is now the sitcom of the year.

It actually improved a bit over the first two episodes but there still weren't any laughs to be had.

Anyone doing Married and You're the Worst OTs? If not, and reviews are solid i'll do both.
Also is Rush taken? I think TheOddOne is our go to USA guy.

You have a go on Rush. None of the new USA shows excite me :(

My slate for now is: Rectify Season 2, The Last Ship, The Leftovers, The Strain and maybe Tyrant (If Cornballer doesn't do it though).

I think I'll take a crack at Tyrant. I'm intrigued after the THR article. I have that, The Bridge, and Masters of Sex coming up in the next month or so.

Looks like you two got it covered. I was going to volunteer for Leftovers if no one else had taken it.

Ratsky, you doing Wilfred again?

Yeah, i still don't know. I will watch if reviews are solid, but it seems very religious and it's not exactly my thing.
You should do that one. I haven't heard anyone else mention it.

The OddOne is doing it.

Murder in the First started last night.
The pilot was bad, especially the depiction of the tech world. The Harry Potter kid was laughable.
Even if it wasn't for the recent batch of cop dramas it would still feel like a tv movie.

Washington Post - ‘The Leftovers’: A biblical event leaves a sorrowful mystery

There’s nothing warm or welcoming about it, nor is there meant to be. Where the network’s “True Detective” occasionally broke its dolefulness with the slyest, philosophically artful wink at an audience riveted by its mystery, “The Leftovers” grafts more unhappiness onto unhappiness. Where “Game of Thrones” revels in even its most gruesome developments, it exists safely within the bounds of fantasy, so slay away. “The Leftovers” mainly acts as a means to deliver the worst news about human nature.

Yet, despite the downer language of this review, the show delivers on an exceedingly intriguing premise, with some of the most beguilingly morose performances delivered this year. It’s a strange but good wallow.

It’s hard for a viewer to know what to do with all this excess grief, even if it’s quite beautifully offered. People watch television for all sorts of reasons, but I’m not sure they watch it to only feel worse.
