Eiji Aonuma: “No one explicitly said that that was Link.”

Consider my eyebrows raised for sure.

Direct descendent of Link from Skyward Sword, maybe?
Since that ends with establishing solid human civilization on the surface world again.

Would fit nicely with the new stuff and wide-open world in the trailer.

If this game is about Zelda saving Link or doing some kind of co-op switcheroo, then holy shit, this is going to be EPIC.

Man.

Starting the game as humble farmgirl zelda and walking into hyrule castle to see king link staring at you from the throne would be pretty hype, actually.

Or king ganon, with evil link as main villain.

Would be cool if he was actually Zelda.

However, I fail to see how having a female character or a different male character would shake up the series to it's core. It'd most likely amount to a skin swap and nothing more.
I think it's just the longer things stay stagnant the more even the smallest of changes can be shocking. Plus it probably means we can have a fundamentally different story from before (outside of LA and MM anyway.)

A little too sunny there.

... What's be funny is if that really just meant "well, you DID name the game's MC whatever you wanted, so he's only Link outside of mainline Zelda! And if you didn't choose that name."

It's Link's long-lost twin brother, Gink, who was kidnapped at birth by Ganon and trained to kill Link, in the secret 4th timeline that split out after OoT.

Looking forward to playing as Li'l Ink, a character with a mysterious connection to someone in the franchise's past...

Why is everyone so eager to destroy the old Zelda traditions?

May as well just make an entirely new IP.

Don't know about you but to me the most important part of Zelda has always been the gameplay, and shaking tradition a little bit is a very healthy thing to do for the franchise to keep growing.
