Eiji Aonuma: “No one explicitly said that that was Link.”

I think it was Zelda. Maybe we'll be able to have 2 players coop with Link and Zelda in a quest against Ganondorf/whatever other evil there is in Hyrule now.

Judging by how young the character shown looked, maybe it could also have a bit more story about how Link and Zelda became friends (at least in some games they are..) by having some gameplay of them exploring little caves for 'treasure'/fun and other simple adventure tasks like that.

Looking at the character more closely, I do think it is a girl, though obviously kept somewhat ambiguous. If they do decide to make the main protagonist a female, I did hope that they wouldn't make it Link specifically or make Zelda a man, like people have been speculating. I don't know how they'll work this into the story, especially if this is the main protagonist and not Link, but I'm definitely interested they are already going in a direction that is unexpected.

edit: I also hope it isn't Zelda, because then why not just make her look like Zelda instead of having a vague resemblance to Link? That said, having the main character be Zelda could be cool.

Link was looking like a girl in skyward sword

Here we go!
Another round of discussion on who the character in the reveal trailer will be.

Is it Link?
Female Link?
Zelda?
Someone else?!

Awwww, Nintendo's all grown up now and learning how to stoke the internet properly for Dat Viral Hype and everything! I'm so proud!

But it's Nintendo, they wouldn't try to mislead anxious fans for hype right?

I'm now starting to have a little doubt that it was male Link but given he gets more man pretty each game, I'll still say it's him in the trailer.

Also, the cowl s/he takes off at the beginning reminds me of the cloak that Sheik wears
(and we all know what that means)
.

I'd post pics but I'm on my phone

One thing I think is worth mentioning is assuming this game is controlled with the gamepad, there's likely no reason to make Link right handed again. However, the character in the trailer is holding the bow in a right handed position.

Though that could all be worthless info if they end up using the Wiimote again or just decided that Link should be right handed again.

I'm still pretty sure that the lead character this time around is a girl. Maybe a female Link or even Zelda trying to save Prince Zelda/Link

Please be Zelda please be Zelda please be Zelda

But, a female version of Link is more probable. I don't think Skyward Sword specifically established that all reincarnations of Link have to be male.

So we are getting a female MC or Zelda as a main character for the next Zelda?

Now that would be an interesting change of pace; for every game in the series we play as a different form of Link, so that changing up this time sounds really refreshing in my book :).

Plus all the hints are there; the main character using a bow instead of a sword as their default weapon (Link, even with all the tools he has, almost always uses a sword first), the main character having an outfit similar to Links sister from Wind Waker, this having a look very similar to Skyward Sword (semi-cell shaded look) implying this is Link and Zelda's child, and the fact that this may even be Ganon or some descendant of his (as this character has the same wrist designs as Ganon)....all the pieces fall into place here.

Still, that would be a MASSIVE shake up and it would be very odd for Nintendo (they are still pushing Link as the main character for the series with Smash and Hyrule Warriors), but it would be very interesting to see this happen :).

Upside, inside out he's livin la vida loca, He'll push and pull you down, livin la vida loca
A heroine? Flat-chested even? Nintendo breaking all barriers. Count me in :D

It'll be his new name "Linq"
And the horse is named ".net"

That isn't kid friendly.
Having two of their iconic characters being parents is a no-no.
Yeah, remember that time in Super Mario Sunshine were Bowser Jr. claimed that Peach was his mother and she HESITATED?

Please, dear lord, tell me this is sarcasm?
You must be new here.

I wonder if the real twist is that you can play as either Zelda or Link and the game has a two sided story. Basically, fleshing out the implied structure of Skyward Sword: where for much of the game Zelda is on her own quest, that you see flashbacks to during the credits.

The open world structure could aid in this. It may make everything more modular.

But Zelda is a sorceress. Not saying I wouldn't ever want to play as Zelda, I definitely do. But if we got a main game wth playable Zelda, I'd want to play AS Zelda...controlling the elements and casting spells on dat ass, all while wearing permanent Annoyed Face.

I wouldn't want to play Zelda as some type of Link-Lite.

I personally think it would be way more interesting if the character was actually Zelda and they did something else with Link. Make some storyline about the hero of time missing and Zelda has to find out what happened to him. That or maybe they could make 2 different playable characters in the game. Zelda for part of it with awesome bow shooting stuff and then Link for part of it with Link stuff.

Not gonna lie, I will be pretty disappointed if there's no Link. Like playing a Metroid game without Samus, but with her twin brother Bamus. Like, why?

I do think the person in the trailer is a girl though. Possibly a Hylian girl raised by the Gerudo? Link's long lost twin sister? Multiple playable characters?

Gonna be a long wait for more info.

The name 'Link' is rarely acknowledged as the name of the protagonist. Dude be trolling an already stated technicality found in past games.

It doesn't look just like Link which is exactly why it's throwing everyone off...

Similarities, sure, but it looks more like a female character.

No it looks EXACTLY like male link. It's not throwing "everyone" off, I saw it and immediately saw him as Link, no questions asked.

Look at the face and hair. It looks absolutely nothing like Zelda. He looks identical to Link. This is basic character design here, how in the heck are people seeing this as Zelda?
