Eiji Aonuma: “No one explicitly said that that was Link.”

It's probably Sheik disguised as a woman

I do wonder, if this is Zelda in the trailer (or hell, even if it isn't), what with the bow being the weapon featured in the trailer, will this game focus more on ranged combat this time around rather than sword combat? That would really be a shake-up.

Look at the seam:

wiiu_zelda_scrn02_e3xpogw.png

Like I said, it could be a matter of EVERY angle we see of this character being off, but as far as THIS picture is concerned, this Link's hips are undeniably wider than the shoulders.

The torso is not turned that much. Again, look at the seam going up the side.

I'm not seeing what you mean with the seam. His torso looks almost perpendicular to his hips to me... like an archer would be on a horse.

You can even see that his belt is turned pretty far, but STILL not as far as his torso, because he's twisting so much.

Not trying to start a fight, I just don't see what you see.

I think that body shape is almost an exact match for a prepubescent boy... Or girl. Kids are supposed to be androgynous. And that to me looks like a young kid.

Back is arched up because the character is looking up... Those aren't really curves.
I meant the feminine quality of the curves.

Good point, and as far as I can remember, it's the only game to have that much tech-like stuff.

Similar time period to SS-theory just got stronger.
Gonna go out on a limb based on 50 seconds of footage. I'll say this is set to be the second game after Skyward Sword, after the first hero descended to hyrule and passed away years later. *tin foil hat*
I think that machine is from the Lanayru mining facility.
I could be way off and this is set after every other Zelda game lol

Because a break in convention is nice every once in a while?

Also, calling Link a "established character" is being awfully generous to a guy who says nothing and is basically no one, and is also not one entity, but several entities across various worlds/times/eras.

Also, it's rather weird that you draw the line on James Bond at race. James Bond has to be white?

Just my view; the first "iteration" is the iteration.

In that case, White, British, Womanizier (i.e straight), Martinis, Tuxedos, Aston Martins, Walther PPK, etc.

Link: White, Male, Great Destiny, Blonde Hair, Green Tunic, Sword n' Shield, Hylian.

Note that I don't particularly mind when the established character is changed if they do something good with it, I just don't understand when people clamor for it. It's on the same level as fan-fiction to me, why not just make a new character?

In this instance, if it's Zelda, cool, she's obviously established within the franchise and it would be interesting to play a game from her perspective. To simply turn Link into a girl would be a lot less interesting to me.

So if it is a girl, I actually hope it's Zelda.

I'm gonna tell you guys right now, don't get too excited about Zelda/female MC. You're setting yourself up for disappointment. And if it happens, then hey awesome. But getting hyped over it follows the Monster Hunter desire sensor.

She's not on her horse in this part, remember? She airborne.

And I keep pointing out the seam because, if the should were twisted perpendicular to the hips, there'd be a visable and pronounced twist in the seam going up the side. As it is, her body is only slightly twisted, and definitely not twisted enough to explain why the hips appear so much wider.

This character IS female. Or is dishonestly proportioned.

I'm just gonna put in my two cents and say that's Link's brother/sister in the trailer. Honestly, it sets up the story a bit. Sibling is kidnapped (once again), you go rescue him/her. Sister was kidnapped in Wind Waker, Zelda was kidnapped in Skyward Sword. Children were kidnapped in Twilight Princess, you get the idea.

Anyway, pretty sure that Link is gonna go rescue the person in the trailer.

I also think it's directly after Skyward Sword

(But I will reiterate what I've said in other threads: I don't really care about the timeline.)

Ah right, airborne. Alright. I kind of see where you're coming from now. Honestly the ponytail (and maybe the eyes) are the most feminine thing about the character to me, but both could go either way.

I have no problem with this character being a girl, or being Link, I just doubt they'd gender-swap Link rather than have it be a different character. Excited to find out though.

Nintendo has been talking about how Zelda is getting stale and that they want to change the formula drastically for the past year or so. Link being a girl or Zelda as the main character would go amazing lengths in actually making that happen. Please fucking god Nintendo, don't disappoint me.

Well now. This makes complete sense. Wow.

You know, this would be the most anticipated game in the series' history - what other series lets you play as the villain after this many established games?

And this too. *Sigh* I'm so torn right now.

Even if it's not this game, a game from this perspective would instantly go to the top of my most wanted list.

We've already reached passive aggressive mentioning the character as explicitly she/he. This is the point I just sit and watch the discussion unfold by itself.

It's not a girl. It's not Zelda. It's not Link, either.

In the new Zelda Wii U, YOU are the hero.
I wouldn't count out Zelda or "Link's Sis".

But yeah, Would love CC!
Legend of Zelda: Story of U!

Custom Main Character for your Open World Adventure!
Let it happen Nintendo! I wanna play as a Chocolate Elf Girl! D:

I find it interesting. It shows that there is still a desire among fans (old and new) to find out more about these Zelda games. Whether we're overexamining or not, Zelda games always generate talk. This series is just incredible.

I also think it's directly after Skyward Sword

(But I will reiterate what I've said in other threads: I don't really care about the timeline.)
The timeline was just something they made to please the vocal fans. They could've said all Zelda games are in their own continuity.

Someone said they saw the sword and shield on the horse. I watched the video several times and I still don't see it.

I don't ever recall Link being showcased in any previous Zelda game outside of Crossbow Training using a Bow as a main weapon.

Also the fact that the Arrows of these bows can shine with some kind of Light energy, like how the Mastersword can fire a beam of energy is interesting enough.

Isn't Zelda known for using an "Arrow of Light"

This is picking at my brain. I need more details.

I mean even in the earliest parts of the game Link usually gets a basic sword and shield before he obtains the Bow.

The fact they are showcasing this character using a Bow that can fire arrows that shine with light, is giving me the impression that could possibly be Zelda.

I know Link has used Silver Arrows before, but never shot off an arrow of light without Zelda's help, so I'm just going by what I see.

Maybe it's the angle, but in that picture Link's hips are DEFINITELY wider than the shoulders. That is an overwhelmingly female trait.

SS's hips are very narrow in comparison, so I'm not sure why you used that pic as an example.

I used the pic because the difference between both isn't much different honestly. I just chalk it up to a different artstyle.

I guess a lot of of people
(Mostly straight guys)
aren't used to leading male characters being depicted with full lips, so that automatically makes SS Link look feminine to them.
:/

It's actually not Link because you can name the character whatever you want.

Aonuma is just trolling us with literal explanations.

Or maybe the character shown isn't even the main character of the game for all we know. Could just be another main character in the story.

Those are possibilities too.

This is a female—no man has a face and a chin like that, not even Link.

If this didn't exist I wouldn't think Aonuma could be hinting at a girl but that character looks way too much like a girl. Hyrule Warriors Link is a pretty dude, this is a girl. If it is a dude they need to change the design.
