Eiji Aonuma: “No one explicitly said that that was Link.”

Someone said they saw the sword and shield on the horse. I watched the video several times and I still don't see it.

I don't ever recall Link being showcased in any previous Zelda game outside of Crossbow Training using a Bow as a main weapon.

Also the fact that the Arrows of these bows can shine with some kind of Light energy, like how the Mastersword can fire a beam of energy is interesting enough.

Isn't Zelda known for using an "Arrow of Light"

This is picking at my brain. I need more details.

I mean even in the earliest parts of the game Link usually gets a basic sword and shield before he obtains the Bow.

The fact they are showcasing this character using a Bow that can fire arrows that shine with light, is giving me the impression that could possibly be Zelda.

I know Link has used Silver Arrows before, but never shot off an arrow of light without Zelda's help, so I'm just going by what I see.

Here is another reason it not link. No green tunic.

This is a female—no man has a face and a chin like that, not even Link.

This person actually looks a lot like Ygritte from the tv version of Game of Thrones.

I guess could be a grown up Aryll from Windwaker.I mean he/she seems to have a similar blue shirt that Link's wear at the beginning of the game.

He was just teasing.

He could have easily just said "who said he was the playable character?"

Let's face it they didn't really show anything we can gather information on how it plays at all.

All this speculation is pointless. Without context that could be anything. Intro game cut scene, mid game, end game, in game. Maybe not even in the game and just a render for the event.

I honestly don't care if this is a male or female, I'm still in shock that I'm getting the Zelda game I've been wanting since I first saw this in the instruction manual for A Link to the Past.

OK, so I thought Link only had an earring in his left ear but in this trailer he has one in both.

Or has Link always had one in both ears?

he's always had one as far as I know. I would need visual confirmation of two earrings and not "I kind of saw something". If the character here has two, then they wouldn't have done that unless he is a she.

I used the pic because the difference between both isn't much different honestly. I just chalk it up to a different artstyle.

Honestly, it's not debatable to me...because I have eyes.

This Link has undeniably wider hips. Her body is too bootylicious for ya, babe.

I mean, it could be an androgynous mislead, but Nintendo has never created a Link with such pronounced feminine features before.

Ah shoot, you guys have convinced me. I think it's a girl now. The only problem is this person looks incredibly Link-ish. So what, this game has no Link? Or they both just look nearly identical?

I would say a straight up female Link is incredibly unlikely. A playable Zelda who is a great fighter is of course incredibly likely, since that has basically happened if you count Sheik plus Spirit Tracks Zelda.

That last time GAF convinced me of something crazy I ended up joining #TeamCG so I'm probably wrong about this and just love a good twist.

I'd be okay with this character if they were some sort of customized template. Leave Link alone though.

Whatever Aonuma decides I'll support it, but I might be indifferent about it.

For what it's worth, I was superhyped until this talk started. :p

check out the ign rewind theater video, they point out the shield, it's like a round wooden shield towards the back of the horse. I didn't see a sword though so dunno about that

Yeeeeaaah ... I didn't list it but I did find it VERY strange that this "Maybe is Maybe not boy Link" has a bow and arrow quiver and no sword or shield on their back. Link would always be seen with a sword and shield before a bow as that's his "go to" weapon combo ... at least until now.

I'd guess it's Zelda.

1) This character has a light arrow.
2) This character starts the trailer with a hood very similar to Sheik.

to be honest, the first time they showed the trailer, and right before they finally revealed the character's face I thought it was going to be a girl, but that changed once I saw his face. I rewatched the trailer again, and I dunno... Link has always looked feminine, but something is different this time.

I think one of the reasons why I thought it was a girl is the fact that the character was wearing a cloak, and the use of a bow.

I don't want to brag but I called it. That is clearly Zelda hiding as Link in order to escape.

Wears a cloak and tunic as a disguise so no one recognizes her as the princess(or whatever)

Mainly uses a bow

Horse doesn't have white hair like Epona

Beamos-thing scans around, and only targets her specifically because it was programmed to hunt her

SPECULATION

I could see this as being Link's daughter or something, I think that'd be kind of neat and it would explain why they look so much like Link.

There's nothing popping out there. I should know :p

Guys and gals, it's Link. The feminine Link we've always known. Cellshaded. It is what it is.....

Yeah, watching it again, it does look very much like Link. I'd like it to be Zelda, because it would be neat to play as someone else for a change, but I'm starting to think it's probably wishful thinking.

Anyway, atleast it's not nearly as bad as Larsa in FF12:

I feel like some people are setting themselves up for serious disappointment. I would love for it to be a female Link, but I'm not going to bank on it. While I agree that Link (If this is Link) has never looked quite this feminine, people saying that it absolutely cannot be a male have watched so very very very little anime and zelda has been using a very anime-ish art style for awhile.

In the end, I think it's be great if we get a female link, but if link is male as he's always been, I won't be disappointed at that either. There's no reason why I or anyone should ever fault Nintendo for going one way or another because it has never been stated that Link had or did not have to be the same gender.

On another note: I must absolutely know when we will see actual gameplay. It's so frustrating getting a single teaser like this.

I'm totally down for that.

Here's a list of reasons this could be someone other than Link.

- Right handed (that's pretty huge unless motion controls are back
which they aren't
)
- Uses a bow primarily
- No green tunic (I'm kinda eh on this one)
- Looks like a girl
- Earrings in both ears when I believe Link only has one in his left ear.

Am I missing anything?
