We learned yesterday that the Zelda Wii U reveal trailer wasn’t a pre-rendered video, but actually running in-engine on Wii U hardware. Today, a Miiverse post from Eiji Aonuma clarifies a little bit – it isn’t just in-engine, it’s actually recorded from gameplay!

I think I'm one of the most optimistic GAF members around and I still can't believe this.

What.

What.

long thread incoming!

That gameplay looked so good that it almost makes me want to buy a Wii U earlier than I actually will

It's got to be at least partially a cutscene or a scripted event. An enemy isn't going to come in with that much flair out of fucking no where.
THAT SAID, even with that, it's still impressive as hell.

How? Actual gameplay? Was that "Link" jumping up in the air a series of quick time events?

It was most likely gameplay, but its probably in debug mode and so they could play with the camera and such while the action was happening, think mario kart 8

Very impressive. I wish they show a bit more though before E3 ends. I thought they said they were going to show it last E3 but chose not to --I'm sure they can show something more.

Why is this so surprising? I mean, it looked amazing and it's cool that they got it running like that on the Wii U, but you can easily tell it's a Wii U game.

Maybe the first scene was actually gameplay, just from an odd view. The second part was clearly a scripted cut scene.

Maybe they'll close the Treehouse event tomorrow with a playable demo as well as a full trailer.

We can hope...

Going to trust Nintendo's track record on this one. First look is always gameplay.

That was mentioned, no? The peaceful scene and dangerous enemy is a contrast. Wonder what they mean by that.

You know what? After Mario Kart 8's replay mode - I totally believe it. In the move to HD, Nintendo's managed to bring a masterful level of polish to every second of gameplay from a visual angle. Zelda probably looks this good for 40 straight hours.

Goddamn, I can't wait.

It might not necessarily be a QTE. There may be a move in the game where you can jump off the horse to attack (in an expansion of the horse combat stuff from Twilight Princess), and they just slowed the game down and messed with the camera to show that off.

The Octorok could also just be a kind of roaming enemy found out in the field, like the Peahats in OoT or the giant squids in Wind Waker.

I need to know the size of the pentagrams that Aonuma is drawing and how much virgin's blood he's drinking, because this black magic is working pretty well.

Perhaps once they realized they could load WW's Great Ocean in its entirety at once they decided to see how far they could push it.
