So what do you guys think are the chances of Nintendo announcing a 3DS successor next year are?

With its sales dropping worldwide, slowing down in Japan, and lack of new first party title announcements at E3 except 1, are the chances of it happening high? Nintendo did say that they didn't want any more software droughts so could they be preparing early?

Since I wasn't into gaming for the DS era and the 3DS announcement, is the situation now kind of similar?

The handheld hardware market is bad and I don't think a 3DS successor would change anything unless it has a groundbreaking new feature.

And the situation isn't similar, to begin with Nintendo doesn't have a concurrent in the handheld dedicated video game market anymore, the 3DS isn't even 4 years old, and the loss in sales come from mobile which use a completely different model than the dedicated video game devices.

It would be funny if Nintendo announce a new console like the way they did with the 3DS

You could say the same thing about the fighting game. If you told me that p4a would have the highest fw in Japan for a fighting game last gen, I'd laugh at you. And then boom, higher sales than freaking street fighter and tekken. I think P4D could be in a similar situation.

Me too. Maybe the "I don't think it'll sell 100k first week" was misleading (like it seemed the game was going to sel less). I think it's probably going to do >150k.

crossposting what I just said in another thread as this might be interesting:

3 wiiu 3rd party exclusives to be announced this year, from the guy that leaked Devil's Thrid among others

If that's the same thing that happened with Bayo 2 and D3rd (a project that nobody wanted anymore, had difficulties), what do you see happening? Something that may please Japan, or too cheap/unappealing for doing something (even it helps to build its library)?
Might be some surprise collaboration like SMTxFE and Hyrule Warriors too, but I doubt it, as it wasn't teased like that.

Outside of Devil's Third i don't recall any games that may have similar background ( trouble with finding publisher , famous developer, trouble with development )

Outside of The Last Guardian of course.

If I had to guess I'd think that all three will come from current 3rd party partners. So a Sega game, a Tecmo game and then maybe an exclusive from either SE or Capcom as they've always thrown Nintendo platforms at least one bone every generation.

Also, that guy said there were going to be meltdowns for Devil's Third. The only meltdowns that occurred came as a result of how bad the game looked.

What are they supposed to do then? 3DS are going to be ugly next year and I really don't think Nintendo wants a repeat of what happened from Wii to Wii U.

And they really don't need a "groundbreaking" new feature that will be more or less a gimmick

Cry On by MAQL and Mistwalker, and Ni-Oh by Team Ninja (and Omega Force prior).

I want the former so badly.

I have faith in the guy as he was right on the money.

Ahah true. I saw some Itagaki fans a bit mad at first, but most seemed ok now. I still think there's time to improve the game, it's not even listed as 2015 for now.

I could see a No More Heroes 3 being like this. Sure it was (sort of) a Wii exclusive, but I don't think any publisher would want to fund a third one. Would fit the mature stuff Nintendo can't do (or don't really want to do).

He still right!

Out of your list only Shenmue 3 seems most likely to fit.

I do wonder what happened to the leftover assets of True Fantasy Live Online, MS and L5 should just make a XBLA spinoff using what is available.

They make microstransaction filled JoJo fighters too.

I'd buy a WiiU for a new .hack// trilogy.

PERSONA 5

NOW WII U EXCLUSIVE

Nobody talks about Ushiro...

Hino has the money, and has expressed interest in reviving that game. But I don't see why he'd do it through Nintendo. Level-5 is successful enough on their own.

Before someone brings up True Fantasy, that list I posted was a joke.

This thing is coming out for other consoles, right? It needs more lovin'.

Yeah, PC and Vita. Though the Vita version is apparently slightly different IIRC.

Welp, better hope that does well internationally or Kamen Rider does well if you want more Bandai Namco multiplats on Wii U.

Wolfenstein is already out (see the chart in your OP, lol). Are you just repeating last week's statement?

80% for an RPG seems kind of low.
I wonder if it'll have poor legs.

What are you talking about? 80% sellthrough is around the same ballpark as SMTIV, P4G, DQVIIr etc and a higher sellthrough than the two recent EO games (both <80%). But you're right that it won't have legs because most RPGs don't. I'm very impressed with the legs P4G has developed though. It'll soon eclipse 300k at retail, probably.

The P4G anime starts in July, P4G is going to have crazy legs haha.

The Vita is selling so shittingly (is this a word?).

I was hoping for a 20k baseline .

Freedom Wars is out in a couple of weeks, I wonder if they are advertising well.

Persona 4G is at 294k so around 50k DL sales. Damn. P4G anime is going to start soon as well.

Disappointed that the anime is starting from the beginning though.

Is the new Wii U exclusives rumor thread worthy? I think it'd make a nice discussion on what people think and want to be on Nintendo's sights next.

I think of all games, Ni-Oh is the #1 most likely. Nintendo still works with Tecmo Koei and Team Ninja regularly (Team Ninja is co-developing Hyrule Warriors) and the game completed it's alpha development cycle in 2012. You never know.

So how bad is ZZZ? lol. I guess these are the possibilities:

A) Low stock, low sell-through
B) High stock, low sell-through
C) ZZZ = actually is the ultimate sell-through of 250% =P.

For what it's worth I tried contacting mods, and EatChildren was up for it.
I'm pretty sure those 3 games might all be japanese-developed as the leaker only ever teased about japanese games. I also don't think those are crossovers and that they must be a bit surprising (unlike Fatal Frame).
