NPD Sales Results for May 2014 [Up1: Wii U Hardware]

Capcom and SE must be shitting themselves now with those Vita numbers, I hope Sony gives them the finger if/when they approach.

It's good news for Vita to get some pulse this month but let's not get carried away. It's still of the lowest sold platform in May even with the bundle giving it life, and if I'm SE and Capcom trying to cash in, I'll be betting my money more on PS4, XBO or 3DS, which have been selling consistently well over the last couple of months.

It's amazing the Vita can increase its sales by 1600% over the previous month and still be the worst selling current gen console for the month.

I was thinking....if a less-than-stellar port of B2 did that, imagine what could have happen if Vita got a real CoD port instead of that awful spin-off...

If you are talking about the WiiU and Kart, well you have to add in Reggie's comments, we have no idea, but almost two weeks out of the games launch he said they were seeing 4 times the daily sales, so you can do some math there.
Reggie's job is to spin numbers positively. Increases in multiple or percentage forms aren't useful without a basis figure, and he doesn't give an indication of the period post launch. It could have been a day, it could have been a week. But we'll see I guess, I told myself not to argue.
200k > PS4 > 100k > XBO > Wii U > 360 > 50k > PS3 > Wii
Bleh. Ordering ruined for predictions.

So I'm going to take PS4 relatively close to 200K and greater than 150K, or a different upper bound would have been given.
How on earth are console sales up 95% with the PS4 under 200k? Was this month last year just fucking dead?
With Wii U at 60k, that means that Wii U+Xbox Family > 170k putting PS4 at least at 170k.
It's May. People need to realise that sales are seasonally low.

Is there that much pent up demand for a kinectless One? I mean a console with a game, Xbox live(?) and a kinect was readily available for $449, is there that much demand for a worse value?

Yeah, Sony and their amazing first party support for the Vita should totally give major third party the finger if they ever approached them to make content for their dying new handheld. What a fantastic idea :)

It has nothing to do with doom and gloom. The console market is obviously in terrible shape, but the reason I think it's likely that the PS4 saw a decline vs April is simple trends. Seasonal trends tend to have much more weight than the release of whatever the AAA of the month is. May is almost invariably a worst month for consoles than April. Even if the console industry was in excellent shape, a prediction for fewer sales in May than April would be the rational one.
Turns out you were right. /eatingcrow

Give it up already. They have already explicitly stated they're not going to do that. And where do get $70 from anyway?

How many times did Microsoft say they weren't going to debundle Kinect? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

And I seem to recall having read that $70 was how much a gamepad cost on its own, can't recall where though. Apologies if that's inaccurate.

Well, here is the biggest news this month, Vita is back to life, FPS bundle 56k.

You mean Boredlands?

Oh boy, more shit lazy ports that won't even adjust the fonts for portable sized gaming incoming from Sony.

Hey, maybe this means we'll actually get a good Call of Duty on the system, though.

200k > PS4 > 100k > XBO > Wii U > 360 > 50k > PS3 > Wii

This pretty much proves that there won't be 260+ million Wii U/Xbox One/PS4 owners like there was with Wii/PS3/360 & that this console generation is gonna contract hard.

Only console this gen that might get lucky out of all of this, is PS4, but it won't get to 80+ million like with PS3 & 360.

That's a huge range

Not quite. We know the Wii U numbers, we know that the PS4 is above the other three combined, which in turn are above 50k individually.

This puts PS4 at around the 170k mark or so.

In fact:

200k < PS4 < 170k

Since Xbox One must be above 60k and we know the 360 is above 50k.

Let me hear the spin.

Get back to me when Sony wins over 2 years in a row straight of NPD numbers.

Hell, I'm just glad Sony is announcing NPD numbers now, and that the Sony fan is excited for NPD numbers these days as well!
Goddamn, I missed all the fun with my internet conked out.

Completely agree, unfortunately all we have are half truths and best guesses, but it is fun to do the math anyways, we can at least assume based on Creamsugar's numbers what the MK8 bundle sold in 2 days, and the rest is just pulling out of our rears.

i'm confused though, is there something wrong with what he's saying? seems like a lot of people aren't even addressing his post and just saying LOLSALT
Don't be confused. Sony doesn't announce NPD numbers, so that is wrong. Why address the rest? He's just mad about console sales.

I guess people just aren't buying consoles in May. Not even Watch_Dogs managed to give a decent boost for PS4. NPDs are going to suck until September.
