Nice lengthy video discussing a recent interview and thoughts on the game:

MUST WATCH! Lot's of interesting titbits like Sony approached them in 2012 to make this game.
The background video (Dark Souls 2) really contrasts what was lost from Demon's Souls and what will be regained in (and surpassed by) Bloodborne and that is the darkness and horror aspects. Dark Souls and especially number 2 are very high fantasy.

I like the variety, but i agree that Bloodborne seems more special than any Souls game yet

That said, all Souls games have that unique feeling at every corner, i never felt i was playing something in common place fantasy in any of them

Remains to be seen how well it plays, but from what i gather from videos it is a supercharged Souls game through and through, which could not get any better :)

I think he's blocking with the Shotgun in the left hand and Sawcleaver in the right. Could be wrong though!

I think you are right since he's doing the same when blocking with the axe. Hè holds his shotgun in front of his mainhand weapon, kinda like an x.

I'm so glad the Souls games got this big, and we're getting regular servings. Even if you were a bit disappointed by DkS 2 (understandable) there's a brand new one just around the corner, and Miyazaki's back. I hope you guys realize how spoiled we are here.

Glad to be on the Soul Train.

Thank you for that!

I've written down some key points from his translation that we didn't know, or expanded on earlier info.

- Wants to get away from metal armor. Metal armor gives the sense that you're well protected. Cloth armor is better suited to the Victorian error because in the 19th century no one really wore that kind of armor. More of a feeling of vulnerability resulting in more proactive combat.
- Bloodborne is a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls in the same way Demon's Souls was to Kings Filed.
- Evoke the era of Jack the ripper, Gothic/Victorian feel. Aiming for atmosphere different from high fantasy seen in Souls series. Going back to roots, Demon's/Kings Field levels of darkness.
- Strategy is going to be more important.
- Wants to emphasize the human element in the game. The darkness/fantasy element comes from the people/characters rather than the darkness derived from basic storyline elements.
- There will be very few 'sane' people. The only time you're really going to see people (sane people without disease) is when they come out at night to conduct beast hunts. It's then you're more likely to cross paths with them.
- During the day when they're (sane NPC's) not trying to rid the city of infected, they're hiding behind closed doors, in their homes.
- Implies even the sane are dealing with their own problems, so player interaction with them will not necessarily always be amicable.
- The bulk of the game will take place around the city, but there are going to be opportunities to visit towns outside of the city. Doesn't want to give away too many details on this.
- The same weapons used by the towns people (the sane NPC's), are going to be the same weapons the player can use.
- Won't go into much detail, but the cure for the disease will be more technological/medical, than magic.
- Yharnam has a known history of being the place to go when you're sick, as they have cures for many diseases.
- Ancient gloom, atmosphere of a place full of secrets and ill intent.
- Changing your weapons shape (transforming) will alter the weapons attack speed and damage output.
- The Sawcleaver was used as an example of characteristic changes to a weapon transforming. When it's extended you use the bladed edge to attack, when it's closed you use the saw edge of the weapon.
- Weapon upgrades will continue (or add different strengths/abilities to them) - doesn't go into detail.
- Wants to make the game focused on online, but doesn't want to screw over offline players.
- As a side note, without being asked a question Miyazaki mentions DLC has become a bigger part of modern games.
- Because of the new hardware it's going to be a very different game (than Souls games) due to more capabilities, and massive amount of additional stuff. At the same time, certain elements will remain unchanged from the Demon's Souls era.
- He's trying to make a really awesome game for game lovers. He's very strongly committed to that. Immersive experience, exploring the unknown, really thinking about what you're doing, emphasizes the fear and sense of desperation in the combat.
- He knows people want experiences like what we got in Dark Souls 1 (specifically mentions DS1) and Demon's Souls.

Hey guys - I'm right on the Bloodborne hype train with you. However, I have an awesome giveaway to my fellow gaffers, I wasn't sure where to mention it so one of the Bloodborne threads seemed appropriate:

I got an exclusive Bloodborne shirt from E3 and my site is raffling it off. All you have to do is comment on the article for our podcast with your game of E3 2014
even if it's not Bloodborne
. We're picking the winner this coming Sunday, June 22nd. It's too awesome to keep, so I wanted to make sure everyone had a shot at getting it :)

Definitely pre-ordering. Hell, if it blows me away like DeS or DS, I'll double-dip when the complete edition comes out too!

Edit: should there be dlc of course

Implying that there will be a Day/Night cycle in the game?

Thank you for this, I really appreaciated it.
The emphasize on human element as the source for the game's "fantasy" certainly would be interesting, as such is the hall trademark of many Victorian literature. I suppose Bloodborne will produced the most memorable NPC by number if Miyazaki managed to pull this.

Wow, he specifically mentioned dark souls? Sony seems extremely hesistant to mention dark souls in any form when talking about bloodborne.

We aren't sure if it has day/night cycles, but we do know this

Q: Does the game take place only in Yharnam?
A: Basically it's just in Yharnam but the city is massive and the game will take place during various times of day and weather.

It was mentioned by Miyazaki, not SCEJ representative. Considering he also direct that game, it's only to be expected that Dark Souls will be mentioned.

Considering the game is going to emphasize more aggressive combat instead of the block and counterattack. I'm speculating that It looks like the Gun is being used like a Guard Break but with a little more forgiveness to ensure enemies are stunned.

Also, since shieldless play is viable in the other Souls games, I wonder if the roll/dodge/backstab approach will work the same.

Yes, I know. I think there was one or two other interviews and only demons souls was mentioned in one of them.

It keeps sounding better....how is this possible.....I kinda like how you have to go on risky night hunts to meet other NPC's or make it easier to meet them.

What kind of Victorian town has a lava area close by?

Okay maybe not lava but a "fire' themed environment seems to be a staple in the series. Perhaps the mines, although that may be a bit too close to DeS.

I like this one

I dont like this one, hopefully the single player will be as strong as Souls games, because this is the main reason the experience is so good (in online too)

Kind of bummed, to be honest. I mean, I do love the aesthetic I've seen, I just love getting an awesome set of armour too.

I hope the customisation options are as extensive as usual in terms of clothing.

I love the suits of armor that you can wear in the souls series but these coats/cloaks that we have seen in bloodborne are equally badass if not more so.
Im definitely liking the new setting, will feel fresh.

Personally I'd love an even more online focused experience. More coop means more fun!

Loving what I'm hearing too, only slightly negative being the lack of armor. I hope there's lots of different clothes to find, and not just ragged ones.

I don't think it's going to be any different from Souls. The online aspects are cool and add to the game, but not essential. It's good he's saying they don't want to screw over offline players.

I wonder if he was a little disappointed in the way DS2 turned out.

He probably didn't mention as he wasn't as involved.

i dont get it? From are making it? Why not just make a Dark Souls 3?

Two reasons. First, Dark Souls is a multi-platform IP. This project is a PlayStation exclusive title, with development help from Sony. So it couldn't be a Dark Souls game. Secondly, using a new IP allows Miyazaki to do whatever he wants thematically, and have fun with the gameplay mechanics in ways he probably felt would be better outside of Dark Souls. You change Dark Souls too much, and fans will feel alienated.

What do you guys think the chances are of Vampires being in this game. They do have an interesting relation to blood and we kind of have werewolves in.

would be great if they were almost unbeatable and the only way to survive their attacks are scattered sun beams in an abandoned building.

I uploaded the E3 2014 gameplay footage some days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GCx2wW61aQ, and now that it has around 208k views I thought i'd share something I found interesting:

22% of the viewers are from Japan
19% from USA
7.3% from Spain
6.5% from UK

With the rest mainly being from around Europe.

94% of the viewers are male, 5.9% are female

Stats - yeah!
