I seriously hope this isn't the case, wtf!! o_O

I get it to a point however kojima then doesnt have to pay for licensing, and also you could argue they are their own nation, and have their own r&d guns they make will look the same but will have a different name because they are produced by their own factories

Sorry if it has been cleared up already but will we be able to ''skip'' the Mother Base invasion thing? Is it just an online feature?

Thank you.

Stupid reason if it's only that, but I don't buy it.

Six games of real guns, in a series know and praised for its attention to detail, and then suddenly fake guns? Something's not right.

I'd be cool with it if all of Diamond Dog's guns were fake because they designed and developed their own; but to have American and Soviet troops using fake shit? Not cool and it will completely take me out of the game.

"Sweet, an M1911 -- oh wait, a 'W1161'." Or some shit.

That "something" just might be it's budget being staggeringly bigger than any game previous for obvious reasons. Cut corners where you can, maybe. The names of the guns are what's helping you keep your head in the game? Future tech in the wrong period, parachuting sheep, horns out of heads, shagohods, nanomachines, wannabe vampires, psychic powered villains, Johnny, cyborg ninjas, men who control bees, some dialogue worthy of d list movies, taking a bajillion rounds and surviving, and a whole host of other things I could mention don't tear down that mental fortitude? Dang, gun names are the real deal, I guess.

Just have an epilogue scene of him in 1995 eating chicken wings and drinking beer in his apartment. He flips to the news channel and sees that Outer Heaven, the war mongering mercenary nation-state has been destroyed. He throws the bud light against the tv in disgust for having the chance of defeating Big Boss himself taken from him, and vows revenge against whoever was directly responsible after taking one more bite of KFC.
Perfection.

Sounds better the most well-written episode in season six of 24!

I'm thinking of playing this game like a real Boss and turn off every assist mechanic.

Two questions though:

1. If you're spotted, how long until the enemy sounds the alarm?

2. If I turn off the tagging will also the map markers disappear? I would like the markers to stay so I can plan my route with them.

As mentioned before, maybe they'd have money for gun licensing if they didn't spend it all on stupid shit like watches and clothing labels. I know what I've always wanted in my semi-realistic miltitary infiltration and combat game is Sieko watches, Puma jackets and Doritos.

The fake guns is just one more thing that constantly takes me out of the game along with that stupid fucking horn.

Kind of sad they don't have real gun names.

One of the reasons I bought a H&K USP IRL is MGS... couldn't afford the real socom Mk.23 hehe

I'm not sure that's how it works, man. Licensing guns you do pay for since they have intellectual property that most game companies want, but (unless I'm mistaken) the other companies will probably pay money to feature in the game. That is unless of course they have some mutual licensing deal where they use the evil terrorist warlord's face in their marketing too.

1. The alarm goes off the moment they finish yelling Contact! or whatever the Russian equivalent is. If you pop a bullet in them, to make them stagger, they'll stop yelling and buy you another second to put 'em down.

2. Map Markers and Tagging are 2 different things. Take note however, that even if the tagging system is turned off, you'll still hear the sound effect and they will still appear on the iDroid.

Watching the 30 minute clip I have to say 1984 looks more like a view from 2084! Does the year the game is set in have any bearing on the world the phantom pain is set in, or is it just used as a number...not saying that the game is meant to be "realistic" but even so..

Also anyone else noticed that Big Boss himself has a "hunched" look about him? When he's walking around he doesn't appear straight-backed, as if he's in a permanent "stealth pose"...

Aside from that the footage was great, more engrossing than the clips shown of Ground Zero's prior to its release..

Kojima likes to take the era the game is set in and implement tech that was being planned of prototyped at that point. For instance, the iDroid is probably based on a gadget inventors to create during the mid-80s.

When you go to Mother Base, Snake stands up straight.

Yeah I noticed that about the tagging in Ground Zeroeos. Oh well, thanks for the answers! :)

Speaking of which, what common MGS weapons will be circulating around during 1984? In = possible, out = nonexistent at the time. List will use real names in spite of whatever the game calls them.

Handguns: 1911, Mk.22, CZ75, and SAA are in. USP and Socom are out.
SMGs: Scorpion, AKS-74u, and Sz.-336 (Ground Zeroes) are in. MP5 is out, although Peace Walker had some sort of prototype so maybe it will appear here.
Assault Rifles: AK-47, FAL, and M16 are in. M4 is out.
LMG: Whatever that thing is mounted on the Mother Base cyphers.
Snipers: PSG-1, Dragunov, and Mosin Nagant are in. GZ had a sniper too. VSS is out.
Misc: Stinger is definitely in, it's use was famous in the Soviet war in Afghanistan. Supplied to the Mujahideen by the US. Used to take out Hinds. The game practically writes itself. RPG-7 is in. Also the claymore, c4, grenade launcher, and shotgun from Ground Zeroes. Nikita Launcher is out.

I like the Ooooo WHOOOOOOOAAAAAAAA during the time pass sequence. And yeah lol Big Boss taking his sweet time smoking that E-cig.

Pretty cool I didn't know it was even around in the 60's
The earliest electronic cigarette can be traced to Herbert A. Gilbert, who in 1963 patented a device described as "a smokeless non-tobacco cigarette" that involved "replacing burning tobacco and paper with heated, moist, flavored air." This device heated the nicotine solution and produced steam. It was never commercialized.

They can add other weapons/vehicles what weren't available at the time. The helicopter we see in MGS3 is a Hind in everything except the name, and the excuse for it being present was that it was a prototype. I think any weapon can exist in a game where technology is so far ahead of its time. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Nikita launcher in the game, to be honest.

Kinda bummed out by the fact that they're ditching the real gun names, as it's a common pet peeve of mine. I'm a sucker for those things. It's not gonna detract me from the game, but I see no point in spending money just to show a Casio or Seiko or whatever the fuck is that digital clock when you fast forward time when they could use it on this. Same for Sony Erikson cellphones in MGS4 (but at least that game had proper gun names for the most part). Maybe just buy the rights to certain weapons, like Uncharted (92FS (the M is missing but whatevs), AK-47 and M4 are correct, while Dragon Sniper, Sas-12 and Desert 5, while easily identifiable, are wrong). At least it's a bit of a middle ground. Cause from what i've seen the enemy weapon designs seem accurate, it's a shame the names aren't.

Yeah, I think it needs the 'big' ones.

AK47, M1911A1, M4, RPG-7, Mosin Nagant etc.

The recognizable ones, and the MGS staples. One of the best things about MGS4 in particular is it's obsessive attention to detail in the weapons. It's video game gun porn.

Mostly Russian guns in that area/time

Possible Pistols:
I would expect to see markov pistols (already in 3 I think)
Beretta 92 was around then but would not likely be found in the middle of nowhere.
Browning HP (1911 basically with some slight differences)
maybe a HK P7?

Machine guns:
Browning BAR?
M60 for sure.

Yeah, I think it would be enough and would be awesome.

I hope they bring weapon customization back too! Any word on that?
Miss having weird combinations on the weapons like this one:

Since it'll be like Peace Walker, you'll be able to upgrade your weapon in the R&D department, which will outfit it with new add on's.

Shit. Hype is in overdrive now...

Is the MGS Collection on Vita any good? I'm out of town this weekend with nothing to do most of the time so I need some entertainment.

In my last MGSV Megatrailer, towards the end of the video, around 23:20 I give an explanation for why Big Boss doesn't have his "horn" in MG, MG2 or MGS4.

My theory is as follows: The shrapnel in Big Boss's head is what caused his coma, and removing it surgically would kill him. However, through inflammation caused by a foreign body reaction the shrapnel is eventually pushed out far enough after nine years that Big Boss is able to regain consciousness. This explains why the shrapnel isn't visible in the 1975 hospital scene, it's completely embedded in his skull and by 1985 it's been pushed out pretty far. This also explains why the "horn" appears to grow in size in the African massacre scene---it's been pushed farther out of his cranium as time passed. Following that line of thought, it makes sense that he'll lose the horn at some point towards the end of TPP.

I guess that makes sense. Just surprised that he was able to keep it protected enough to come out instead of someone hitting it with a sledge hammer or him falling and landing on it to cause further damage. lol.

I'm really liking how they're expanding on the Peace Walker game play for the Mother Base. I'm assuming we'll be able to deploy troops on our own missions as well to have back up then? It would be interesting to see a strategic based mission where your troops can approach a base from different areas before engaging.

The customization in MGS4 is so good. I've been replaying it the last few days and I forgot how much detail there is to the guns.

I think it'll be more like MGS:pW which guns get upgrades through R&D which is a bit of a shame, but at least we can still attach/detach suppressors and turn the flashlight on and off in the field instead of having to be stuck with them. Still, would be nice to be able to change out scopes for specific situations as well.

When doing lethal runs on MGS4 the M4 is the perfect gun for nearly any situation, so versatile. It's a shame we won't have anything like that in V.

I think someone mentioned that you can use soldiers to do a bit of recon and point out enemy locations for you. Would be pretty useful.

I seriously hope this isn't the case, wtf!! o_O

Oh god I hope its not all fake guns, goddamnit.

That will piss me off so bad and break the experience for me, one of the things I always loved about MGS was the fact they modeled everything so realistically and called them by somewhat realistic names.

Actually, I remember seeing Tokyo Marui credited after every game they make really nice airsoft gun replicas.

Yeah I hope the next trailer mentions whatsup with these guys...

I dunno why, but I'm seeing this boss battle a sandstorm in an abandoned village.
These guys popping up everywhere and just rushing you.

looks amazing, I love it.

OF COURSE they release it after I already spent 4 hours working on a fan trailer of the footage from yesterday. SO MUCH TIME WASTED!!!

I really wouldn't mind the following happening after TPP

A Remake of MG and MG2 maybe even telling them from Big Boss' perspective?

A Game showcasing the origins of Liquid Snake (He's been severely underused in the series as a whole...lol nanomachines)

A Game where we get to play as Grey Fox

ZOE 3

Get er Done Kojima

Big Boss looks considerably older in the artwork. I wonder if they originally intended to have him look like this, or if he noticeably ages as the story progresses. Note the hairline and longer ponytail as well.
