Damn, Wii U just hold on until Hyrule Warriors.

I really thought MK8 would have turned things around. Poor Wii U.

Yes. Only the Vita and 3DS above 10K.

you should probably include the week prior of sales, lets you know if any other factors/lay of the land.

The other platorms didn't just receive a sequel to a multimillion seller.

And it probably wouldn't have helped them much either. Most systems are saturated, 3DS received a 200k seller and barely blinked. It's not a good point for anyone regardless of the software I feel. Some systems just reached that point earlier than others (far earlier...).

Nothing stops the Yokai train.

3.3 million for Monster Hunter 4 and 400k for Mario Party on 3DS next week, 3DS seems to be holding decently.

PS4 will be going through the rest of the year what Vita experienced during the dual storm period of Pokemon/Monster Hunter last year.

Current-gen won't begin in Japan till 2015.

Sheesh, its only been out in Japan for like 4 months. Can we give it at least one holiday season before declaring the PS4 dead in Japan?

Judging PS4 before its first holiday season is preposterous. ...

As it seems Sony is becoming more and more irrelevant in Japan. There´ll be a little bumb next week due to new PSV software but the trend is looking very grim and this likely will have consequences.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Chill dude

they dont have any games yet

Just wait until Bloodborne, FFXV and KH3 hit

So, wait till Spring 2015 for the first coming (BloodBorne). Waiting so much certainly won't hurt PS4 sales in the long run, nope!

I have a terrible feeling this won't happen, still hope that it does. This year's TGS better be awesome.

Where have I heard all this before? ... Oh yeah, for the WiiU. The thing won't do anything in Japan, these numbers are too bad. And the chalkboard isn't exactly impressive either. FF15 (in two to three years, if we're lucky lol) will do about as much for it as Mario Kart now did for WiiU.

On the bright side, we can confirm that Pikmin is a system seller of Mario Kart proportions. :p
Nintendo should take note, their quaint strategy game has reached god-tier sales status.

Part of the Pikmin side though could be NSLU or alternatively Lego City I guess.

Still it's clearly not doing what some people thought it might, probably including Nintendo's management.

How could Sony mess up PS4's Japanese release so much? They need to start cutting deals with third party devs so that they start moving to current gen sooner than later.

06./00. [PSV] htoL NiQ: Hotaru no Nikki <ACT> (Nippon Ichi Software) {2014.06.19} (¥6.264) - 8.082 / NEW <80-100%>

Practically sold out, that's very nice.

So the console market leader is only selling ~200K/month currently in the US and Japan combined, which historically are the two lead markets. Not a good current trend. It will be interesting to see when this rate increases...or if it drops even lower.

in all seriousness someone should make a chalkboard for PS4 in Japan

it will be interesting to see what saves it, we know something has to even 2 yrs from now

By the beginning of December? It would need to 8695 a week to get another 200k by early December. With the lack of releases throughout that time, I guess theres always a chance?

I could see Zelda musou giving it a little bump

And a price cut is a possibility

I thought Vita was pretty alright during that period last year? I don't remember any particular downturn (the slim had just released).

PS4 is probably going to be looking at Vita-during-holiday-2012 sales. So like pushing 4k (and PS4 doesn't have red/blue models coming to push it up a bit)

it took about 2 years for the PS3 to catch on in any meaningful way in Japan, will probably take just as long for Japanese PS4 software support to arrive. the only thing different this time that might help Sony is the rise in popularity of Western console IPs (CoD, GTA etc)

The idea that Japan is a lead market for home consoles is nonsensical these days.

The PS4's performance in Japan has about as little bearing on the big picture as the XBO's eventual awful performance.

Europe has been way bigger market than Japan since PS1 days. For couple of years last gen UK alone was bigger market than Japan.

Honestly I don't see much of a future for consoles in general in Japan.

The Japanese third parties collectively put up the poorest showing I've ever seen at an E3. They're not really interested in competing on this front anymore.

I think it speaks volumes that almost every larger scale Japanese console game shown there was published by a console vendor.

Begins doesn't mean it'll be a good year. But I expect momentum to start improving by early-to-mid 2015.

Acceleration... will demand that heroes rise to the occasion. Heroes like Kojima, Miyazaki and Nomura.

Wii U is still above 10k. I'm surprised.

I wonder what Hyrule Warriors can do for the Wii U sales in Japan.

People said PS4 will struggle just like Wii U is west before it release i'm sure PS4 would o well if it had what Japanese want

I never post in these threads, but I always read the first page.

Just wanted to put my sadness in writing for once. This shit's real, real sad. So many great Japanese games we'll never see, all because their industry collapsed. The golden age of japanese console gaming is long past. Sad times.

EDIT: Beaten by this, which is exactly what I made of E3:

If the Japanese were going to show up to this generation in any real number, this (the first E3 after launch) was the time to do it. And they didn't. And these numbers we get every week are a huge reason why.

As I said in the past, Sony lucked out in the West because consoles are still dominant here, and because Microsoft shot themselves in the foot. A subpar launch lineup was irrelevant.

In Japan, the market has shifted. Consoles are done.

Kinda weird feeling about Hotaru no Nikki. It's low numbers but it actually seems to have sold what they shipped (about 10k?) so that's good. And it's already outperformed some other Nippon Ichi bombs from last year (Yandere & Zillions of Enemy X I think) which is something.

I was surprised Nippon Ichi haven't committed to Vita more. Compile Heart are fully on board; Falcom are fully on board; Gust are in full porting mode & Acquire throw bits and pieces. But Nippon Ichi seem to be clinging to PS3 a lot harder.

FF15 will most likely still be a million seller in its first few weeks, whereas Mario Kart is far off from that, so I'd think FF15's PS4 bump will be considerably higher than Mario Kart's Wii U bump.

When was TGS awesome?

Sony didnt "luck out" Playstation brand was always strong and they made the right decisions and have a better console spec/price wise than MS.

The idea that Japan is a lead market for home consoles is nonsensical these days.

I know it is. I'm comparing to previous generations ("historically") and comparing it to the current sales trend. It is abysmal. Without a major uptick, or if Europe takes up the slack completely for both the US and Japan, each console is going to sell less then its predecessor.

People said PS4 will struggle just like Wii U is west before it release i'm sure PS4 would o well if it had what Japanese want

Maybe, but it doesn't have anything the Japanese want. In fact, I believe a console could still do relatively well, if it actually offered compelling content. So far though, both WiiU and PS4 are expensive and don't have games. So obviously they don''t sell, but it seems many Japanese devs gave up way too early.

For all the people that make fun of Nintendo and Wii U sales, have we gotten an explanation for why the PS4 is selling worse there than in the US? I've seen a couple of these and it seems PS4 is getting beat consistently.

What exactly does this mean?
No future for consoles in Japan? It's still one of the largest individual markets after the US.
Might as well say you don't see a future for consoles in Canada or Australia or any other of the number of countries lol.

It has no games here that people want.
