Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Ah, here it is. Thank you, Google magic :D

Pokémon Battle: Link! {2014.3.12}

March - 10.585 (30.235) / 40.820
April - 9.580 (63.666) / 73.246
May - 5.039 (43.180) / 48.219

Total retail + digital - 162,285

Anyone with a Japanese 3DS...where does it place in 3DS only All-Times Charts?

It is not, Smash will sell more consoles than MK8 did, a whole lot more.

Thats beside the point you were responding to.

Smash is not going to save the WiiU.

Even in that case I still don't think it is very fair to say 'you suck Japan'. PS4 has no games and the Wii U doesn't sell any where.

Wow I never saw it this way but it makes sense. WiiU is selling poorly worldwide so you can't blame Japan for not buying the system and unlike in the West, the PS4 is lacking games in Japan. Japanese console industry redeemed!

But fun games aren't enough to sell in the West. Graphics are the most important factor.

Seems like you can't accept people having fun with games that you don't like. FIFA and COD were never graphical beasts and yet are or were some of the best selling games in the industry. Graphics are important but they are not the be all end all.

Also isn't Minecraft one of the best selling games of all time...at 54 million or something.

Can we possibly estimate an LTD for Pokémon Battle: Link?

I remember it didn't have a big start, but it's continuing doing quite good, I think.

EDIT: 3DS WE Digital sales > PS3 WE Digital sales, wut.
NCL should pinch the Pro Evo IP from Konami...

Could Japan do with a new, break-out hit? I'm not sure if Yokai Watch counts, but it seems like the market needs a bit of a shake-up.

It'd have to be a combo of fancy software and fancy hardware.

It's at 4 (top 4 is 3DS titles only so the position is the same both in- and excluding VC/DSi titles).

Thanks! It's good to have something about Japanese eShop charts sometimes. Now we know that the top 3 most downloaded titles on 3DS are > 162,285

Ah, I've seen a news about Initial D on Famitsu, I think it's because it just got downloaded 300,000 times. Is that true?

Isn't that list a bit old? No FFX-2 abroad sales. No KH2. "Abroad" numbers for KH sound too low, but I think that's a game that had good legs.

Brutal numbers.

I think one of the big side effects of the higher dev costs is there are less interesting releases/releases in general, which leads into the loss of gamer engagement.

Though much of the content releases on mobile is of varied quality, the fact is that steady stream of releases means there is something new to experience for the gamer all the time, leading into strong engagement.

No wonder gaming is growing in Japan, just not on traditional platforms.

I don't think that has much to do. The idea behind smartphones F2P games is make the user stick with their games for as long as posible. The bigger or smaller amount of releases doesn't matter all that much.

But what would it cost to develop today, considering the level of graphical fidelity the PS4 blockbusters demand? And how many copies would it need to sell to recoup?

(I still think it will happen if all else fails for Square-Enix)
Well if Sony is partly funding/developing it like last time probably not as much as you think. Even if it they can't recoup it'll be worth it in the end.

I've never gone into a sports game thread or Call of Duty thread and complained about the games not being fun, some people like them, that's fine by me; maybe there are people who do it, though I've never seen it. But not a day goes by where I don't see someone come into smartphone/RPG/Japanese game thread and complain about not being on the 'right' platform, or not having pretty enough graphics. I'm just calling it as I see it.

Are you telling me there aren't people who complain that such and such would be so much better if it were 'for a real console' 'on vita' 'Noo! smartphone is shit' 'lolNintendo, no buy' 'Nintendo should be third party', etc?

Edit: there is even a recent thread about if Nintendo were to make a system rivaling the PS4 in graphics and sell it for 400$ would you buy it. Everything leads me to believe graphics are the most important part of gaming in the West. Am I mistaken? Is there another reason people make these statements?

Most people that get disappointed when a game gets announced for smartphones and handhelds don't understand the situation of mobile gaming and console gaming in Japan.

There's also the concern that the gameplay will not be as good (looking at smartphones here mainly but also handhelds sometimes).

I mean regardless if you do or do not understand the reason for Japanese gaming shifting it doesn't really take away your disappointment when something like Breath of Fire has a sequel announced for iOS.

Yeah and the number 1 reason for not was a lack of games: third party support.

Over 11k on Dengeki? Wii U saved?

Seems like more variation between trackers than usual lately, though I could be remembering incorrectly.

MC and Dengeki have fairly comparable Wii U tracked sales, it's Famitsu's number that's widly different. ...Ah. Let's see how this saga will continue next weeks.

Also, Run For Money + Battle For Money on 3DS have combined surpassed 1 million copies shipped + downloads.

Its nice to see it do well.

The art in the game is simply astounding. Is there a lot of plot in the game? I'm curious on a lot of things about the world one being why does she have branches coming out of her head:

3000 yen? Why would their bit 3DS holiday release besides Pokemon be sold for 3k yen in the busiest time of the year? It will be one of the higher priced first party 3DS titles at launch and probably stay that way for the next 2 years lol.
Ah, sorry, i was thinking about prices for used copies. I dont expect the official price to drop anytime soon. I'm curious what the price difference will be between the 3DS and the WiiU version though.

I think that is more related to wanting it to be better/different for various reasons. I dont see anything wrong with wanting a better visual presentation, but even wanting that, its still fully possible to enjoy a game the way it already is. I dont think there are many people who think a game looks fun to play, but wont buy it simply because it doesnt have "good enough graphics".

Somewhat off topic, but I'm going to Japan for the first time next week, is there any Japanese exclusive hardware for Wii U worth picking up? I was hoping for a Japan exclusive controller color or other accessory.

I can't see anything apart from the usual Taiko no Tatsujin stuff.

Nintendo needs to market Wii U to retailers as a seasonal product because this machine isn't moving much.

Nintendo's aim is to market Mario Kart 8 from here until christmas, which is when the game will best be able to show what it can do. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people are waiting until then to pick it up.

Am I blind or is the PC Engine missing?

Unfortunately it's missing from 1994 figures, 1993 figures are here. Rough annual sales of all PC Engine models combined can be found here. Here are my estimates based off of that;

Code:
                                    93(03) 94(03) (LTD)
CD·ROM2 (Duo included) 500k 250k 1.75m
PC Engine (Hu card only models) 170k 100k 3.92m

Do you have any info on how much Neo Geo sold in total in Japan?

I have seen a figure of 1m on Japanese sites, but I don't know the original source of that figure or if it includes Neo Geo CD. Judging by the fact that it only sold 300k in it's first four years I'd say it probably includes Neo Geo CD, but with how long the original Neo Geo was supported (14 years) it's conceivable that it crawled to 1m on it's own.

Honestly though, in comparison to software sales PS4 is doing relatively well compared to WiiU.

It's still terrible yeah, but selling that much with absolutely 0 appealing games to Japan is a feat.

10,000 units of software is a positive? What?

Even if you do a ratio of hardware sold vs software sold for the week the Wii U ratio is higher by quite a bit. (not that the Wii U is selling well either)

I mean the fact that even with only 10000 units of software they're still selling like 7k hardware. What the hell are these people buying?

How high does Mario Kart realistically look to go? I know the holiday's will help it out a lot probably, but are we talking 750k or higher?

Does anyone believe that Wii U will have a lot better sales at the end of the year compared to last year thanks to Mario Kart and Smash Bros?

Its nice to see it do well.

The art in the game is simply astounding. Is there a lot of plot in the game? I'm curious on a lot of things about the world one being why does she have branches coming out of her head:

They sure look like twigs.
The story's a little more on the subtle side. It gives it to you in bits and pieces, and then leaves you to interpret what's actually happening. Kind of reminded me of Lone Survivor in that sense. But yeah, the horns are there for spoilery reasons.

Also, Run For Money + Battle For Money on 3DS have combined surpassed 1 million copies shipped + downloads.

I believe it's roughly 600k for the 1st one, and 400k for the second one, right? The second one didn't quite have the same legs as the first one, which was truly impressive, while still selling quite decently. I wonder what they'll have for this year.

Makes me wonder if Spike-Chunsoft is gonna have another Attack on Titan game this year. It worked pretty well for them last year, despite being a low-effort game. And the those shortages right during the most important period for sales really made me lose lots of potential sales.

Thats very nice to hear!

Smash WiiU showed up in COMG's daily ranking today. Just throwing that one out there. Seems the thirst for it is real (Hyrule Warriors still hasn't shown up yet).

Girls Und Panzer got "poor" scores from Famitsu. You know the game's rough when it's from a major publisher and that happens.

he had a few comments this week like fw apealing to younger crowd? kamen rider lower than the previous one, ps wd lower sellthrough but slightly higher total volume, something about taiko

if someone wants t take a proper look

Looking at COMGNET pre-order rankings...and this caught my eye:

[3DS] Devil Survivor 2 break code - 11pt

So DS2 remake on the 3DS is really happening?

That's... not that bad for Wii U all things considered, remember most multiplats on Wii U get the "Rabbids Land" badge. :(

thats 30% of wiiu shipped copies are sold not the total of all copies, I imagine the wiiu had a lower shipment and then with a lower sellthrough of that shipment there is likely a very large gap in total sales.

Yeah yeah I knew that. :) Just depends as said what the shipment was. But still even other Wii U versions have lower shipments and still get Rabbids Land sell-throughs.
