My home town. I saw a bunch of concerts and plays and comedians at this place.

Long story short, a "mysterious arts impresario" beat out a local preservation group, and everyone thought it was going to be turned into condos or a restaurant or something. But actually it was bought by Leslie Benzies, who's the president of Rockstar North and he's going to maintain and preserve it for the peeps.

Whoa! We performed there last year with Northern Stage, and I had heard that someone was going to be buying it and getting rid of it as a venue... They had to find a new venue for this year. Glad he's saved it, beautiful building.

We got to go up in to the old church hall, and it was the most amazing room I've ever seen. Just astounding, and it was being used as an office! Just a few folks in a corner while the rest of it was just... There. Unused, a little sad really.

So was the preservation group he beat out also going to save it? Why exactly is he being praised and why would he buy it for more if he is going to be doing the same thing the competing buyer was going to do?

I guess he would also be making some sort of profit on this as well.

Thanks Rockstar and Mr.Benzies, this is an example of what extreme wealth should be used for when you've had your fill of materialistic nonsense.

Looks like Leslie Benzies bought most of the shares - through various charitable foundations, and trusts, and so forth. Look, it's all a bit technical, but the important thing is that the Stephen’s Church future is secure.

Didn't you get the memo?

Why outbid a preservation group? Does he a better plan for preservation.

There were other 50 bidders, many of whom had already expressed interest in turning the church into something else. It wasn't assured that the Preservation Group was going to win.

Very cool of him to preserve his community's landmarks. Wish more people were like him.

I just realized that I slept 4 minutes away from the Rockstar North building when I visited Edinburgh and I didn't visit it. Or maybe I walked by it and didn't even know.
