The good people of A1-Animation have once again blessed us with the presence of another series of, the talented author, Reki Kawahara's great work, Sword Art Online.

One year after the Sword Art Online incident, Kirito was busy being his usual awesome self when some bloke called Seijiro Kikuoka from Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Department pops along to tell him something grave. Apparently there's a new VRMMO called Gun Gale Online (GGO) and one user is being particularly naughty in it. Supposedly this mysterious person has a special gun in GGO and if they shoot you it's gonna hurt. Hurt so much in fact that you die in real life. Since this gun can cause death they call it the "death gun".

Since the Japanese Government are too incompetent to do anything it is up to Kirito to venture into the virtual world of GGO and investigate the "death gun" incident. Here he meets a lass calling herself Sinon and the two of them team up to find our mysterious Bad Guy. Their plan is to enter the "Bullet of Bullets" tournament, which aims to find the most powerful gun person in the game, hoping it will draw Mr Bad Guy out!

Am I to understand that this season will ONLY have the phantom bullet arc or will it be similar to the first season encompassing more than 1 arc?

This OT alone will make me want to look into what ever the fuck it's about. Is it an anime? Even so I'll check out a trailer or something in support of this OT god damn.

First season is on Netflix. Go in blind and enjoy! Words cannot express how awesome it is.

I predict this will be a thread of civilized discussion celebrating the merits of the show

I daresay you're probably correct, old chap.

Yes, it's an anime, but it's also a sequel. You need to watch the original to fully understand the story of Jesus "Kirito" Christ.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
So how many people who've posted so far actually like this series? I'm pretty sure the OP doesn't.

You all know that I know that you know this thread isn't a serious one.

I love Sword Art. There, I said it. But I'm not blind enough to disagree with the people saying it's pretty much the epitome of nerd escapist fantasy anime.

I just love it for what it is and I enjoy the MMO concepts/action, even if it's not always the most well animated (like Kirito's face during the Gleam Eyes fight).

I mean I liked the first half? It wasn't great by any means and Kirito is pretty much too OP. But meh, I liked it for what it was. The second half was garbage and insulting. I went into it blind and had no idea people hated it before I saw it. I was blown away by how drastically bad it got, didn't even feel like the same show/writers.

So I guess I'm watching this cautiously with no expectations.

Those that have read the LN does
Asuna and Kirito have anything together this season? It was so bizarre how they were kind of dating but then he like spent the end with his cousin instead and gave her hope for his emotions or something.

If you want to watch a real MMO anime then watch Log Horizon.

I do think Log Horizon is better. But that doesn't change that I love SAO. Can't wait for Log season 2. Hopefully it's also 2 cour. Fall is gonna be insane. Log Horizon, more Mushishi, Fate, etc.

Not much. There's some stuff in the beginning, but then there's no real direct contact between the two again until the end.

Oh, I should mention that that's only referring to the 3rd arc. If we get Mother's Rosario [spoilers for Mother's Rosario obviously],
it's basically the Asuna show, but then Kirito's mostly absent.

I enjoy it for its fantasy setting as well. I do think the series because of its huge popularity is always taken to task for minor offenses of things other animes (some far more popular but are older and beloved) are never called out for. SAO is the Nickelback of anime
(I hate Nickelback btw... the irony)
.

I want to believe the OT won't devolve into something I won't hate posting into. Who knows, new season might suck and I'll join the hate parade as well. We'll find out in a few days but I'm pretty excited right now :)

Bout time this came around. Looking forward to it. @AmethystEnd and @hipbabboom I also enjoy the show. I'm aware of all the issues and of course like to discuss them, but I'm not interested in threads that shit on it for every single thing. The writing could definitely improve the most, at least in the vein of the characterization, so I'm hoping this ends up better.

If you haven't read the LN and enjoy SAO's setting and style, I think you'll really enjoy this new season. I love the Phantom Bullet arc much more than Fairy Dance. Mother's Rosario will be interesting though. Let's see how they do it. I also agree with you regarding the hate, but that's also the reason why I can grin and bear it so easily.

It's true that Log Horizon has superior pacing and writing but while both are power fantasies in their own right. Log Horizon spends more time building a better world while SAO spends more time building a better Kirito. I can appreciate both their efforts <3

Can't wait! I hope they do away with the sister angst this season, unlike the second half of the first.

And lol, DTL your avatar is eventually going to be full on penetration ;)
