I got in on that at the last second. Like a day after I received mine it was announced as going OOP.

I never picked up Army of Shadows though :(

Or Ran :(

Or The Third Man :(

Edit: OR LE CERCLE ROUGE :(

I've got sealed copies of The Third Man and Le Cercle Rouge. I should sell them and retire.

Hey, if you feel like trading I've got a perfect copy of AoS that I don't want...I missed my chance to get Chungking back then.

In other realms, I'm a little nervous about the Herzog bluray collection that's coming soon after the review of the separate Nosferatu disc says it was DNR'd like crazy. The BFI set isn't region free either :(

Just realized that the Barnes and Noble shipping facility is about 5 miles from my house. It will be interesting to see how long this takes to ship. I really hope they don't send this out to Memphis to have it come back.

Qatsy Trilogy
Yi-Yi
Thief

And from an ebay vendor actually cheaper than B&N :

Life is sweet
Ivan's Childhood
Letter never sent
Gold rush

I just bought La Jetée / Sans Soleil, Solaris, Beauty and the Beast, and Orpheus. Now I hate myself. I shouldn't really be buying anything at all right now.

My haul from today. Not sure I'm gonna keep All That Heaven Allows, and not sure I'm done shopping...

Chill bruh. I sleep with the Chungking blu under my pillow. As bad as I want those releases, I've never been in the habit of trading OOP for OOP because I'd regret it so much down the line.

If you'd be willing to let me permanently borrow it though, then we could talk.

Man I'm shocked at how great the selection was at my Barnes & Noble. I guess because I haven't been into one since I got my Kindle years ago I was unaware of how big their blu-ray section has gotten.

Picked up Harakiri, In the Mood For Love, Throne of Blood, Kagemusha, Videodrome, Badlands and The Killing. I wanted way more, but I need to pace myself.

I was recently emailed a timed 20%-off coupon for store use; anyone who prints it out should easily be able to get an expensive box-set at the store with it (since it only applies to one item, cumulatively).

Ha, it's like a hostage negotiation. I hope I get better warning next time they discontinue stuff.

Grabbed the new Man With No Name Trilogy Blu-Ray, with the 2014 remaster of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I've been making my way through the films again, and the first two films are fine, the transfers are not great, but good enough.

The problem arises when you get to the supposedly remastered version of TGTBTU. I have the two previous releases of the film - the old 1998 DVD with the 161-minute theatrical cut (which I still have since it's the only way to watch the original American cut) and the extended cut from 2003 or so. The 2003 cut had it's own issues with the soundtrack (which had added/redone sound effects and a faux DTS soundtrack instead of the original mono).

This new version, though, is AWFUL. The color timing is completely off. Everyone looks orange and yellow. Blacks and shadows look downright green! This green tint to shadows is especially noticeable in the early scene when Angel Eyes meets up with the confederate soldier who hired him. Eastwood's duster also has a greenish tint.

I was thinking of getting rid of my old DVD versions, but after seeing this new version, I'm definitely keeping them. What's more, I advise everyone to skip this particular release.

The Blu-ray.com reviews says that they used the Italian Technicolor prints as a reference and the yellow push was what Leone wanted. Who knows how true any of that is but it's likely the last time it'll get remastered so it is what it is.

The Italian Blu-Ray does not look like this. The MGM print also includes that extended chicken scene with Tuco which wasn't even in the original Italian release (Leone himself cut it from the film after the premiere because he thought it slowed the film down too much) as well as the butchered soundtrack with added and different sound effects. Why has no previous DVD or BR release had this horrible yellow tinting? :(

Do you have a link regarding the color timing? Because I really want to know what the source for this info is.

Check the "Video Quality" section. I'm not saying it's my preference, simply detailing what the review said. As I stated, who knows what the truth is, especially regarding intent, since neither Leone or Tonino Delli Colli are around anymore.

This is a comparison of the previous MGM release and the Italian version released by Mondo (unfortunately in Italian mono only). It's a transfer of a print provided by the Leone family. Personally, I think it's the best-looking and probably most accurate to Leone's intent.

The MGM Blus of Fistful and For a Few Dollars More are the shorter US versions as well (I think just very minor trims from the Italian releases, I know that the big scene that introduces Indio in the US version is a few seconds shorter - they cut away from his laugh sooner).

Check out some screenshots from the new Blu. Shadows are green now! Hideous!

The sale's been going on since Monday. That reminds me! This is my haul:

I gave away the old DVD versions I had of the films, with the old box arts. Wonder now if I should've kept any of them. Don't suppose those awful old box arts are 'rare' in any way, are they?

Currently debating whether to do one more purchase: Kagemusha, Throne of Blood, and Rashomon. Again, I already own all of them on DVD, so these would just be upgrades.

So, it seems like barnes and noble are having another 50% off sale. Anyone know of any coupon codes that we can use along with this promotion?

Both are pretty YMMV, some stores wont take them with criterions but mine never seems to care. I don't have any links to 20% coupons though.

Hopefully I can find some before I make my first run.

You can try searching through these links for some more. Sometimes people post them

edit: my bad I think you wanted online codes and I don't think those will work online but maybe someone else will put them to use. I usually buy the bulk of what I'm going to get because you can get way better deals with coupons and the rewards discount if you get a cashier that doesn't care.

Bit the bullet and grabbed Kagemusha, Throne of Blood, Rashomon and Ran (not a Criterion disc, but the 50% off applied to it for whatever reason, so I grabbed it).

With that, I'll be done upgrading all of my Kurosawas to Blu, at least until they release The Bad Sleep Well, Do-des'-ka-den, Stray Dog, Drunken Angel, Red Beard, The Lower Depths, or any of the films that have only been released in Eclipse boxes, in Blu.

We really need new transfers of Madadayo, Dersu Uzala, The Quiet Duel, and the other non-Criterion Kurosawas, on Blu-Ray... :(

Revised haul. Hope this is the final trip to B&N this go-around.
Nice selection!

I'm kicking myself now because I forgot about Rules of the Game, though. Been meaning to pick up the blu and your pic just reminded me. Going on a trip tomorrow afternoon for a few weeks so I may try to squeeze in another Barnes & Noble stop in the morning.

At this point, all my Criterion purchases are just upgrades of stuff that I already own...I kind of miss the thrill back when I started collecting, when each movie was new and mysterious.

How is that Rules of the Game Blu? I own the DVD, is the blue a visual upgrade?

I can't say yet as I haven't opened it, but reviews (blu-ray/com and DVD Beaver for example) suggest it's a solid improvement.

And I hear you on the upgrade-train! Fortunately I only had about 40-50 to begin with, but I have less than ten titles to upgrade (and the BBS set) so I should be able to be fully upgraded by the end of the year. Gonna try and sell some DVDs of the titles I've already upgraded to fund an upgrade of House and maybe Godzilla.

I'm debating on grabbing Benjamin Button but I do not want that garish case.

[EDIT] Someone call an abuse hotline for my wallet, please.

Yeah, I have all the Kurosawa stuff Criterion and Eclipse have released. Now I'm just upgrading. I wish some of the Sam Fuller and Jules Dassin DVDs would get upgrades (other than Rififi, I mean - yet another title I have to upgrade at some point in the future).

I hope the Scanners Blu fixes the horrible audio sync issues the previous releases have had.

Might as well give the heads up here: Shout! Factory's LE for the Nightbreed Director's Cut is selling out pretty quickly. The first thousand copies that are numbered and get shipped two weeks earlier are already all gone (just made the cutoff myself!), and they've secured an additional 1500 copies for their website, leaving 2500 for the other websites to sell it. Judging by how hammered DiabolikDVD is looking right now on their page for the pre-order, I imagine it's selling at just as speedy a clip, so don't dally.

The one DVD I think I want to upgrade most in my collection is Le Samourai. Really wish we'd get a solid blu release in the states, it's one of my favourite movies.

I need to watch this movie badly, would love a Blu release.

Gonna search for coupons before going tomorrow to grab a movie (or two..).

Just got back from my first B&N Haul.

I picked up Like Someone in Love, Branded to Kill and Persona using my 10% members discount, a 20% off coupon, a 5$ off 50$ coupon and a 8$ off one blu-ray.

I paid $37.37 before tax so about $12.45 per movie. Woo, I think that's the best I've ever done per movie.

I probably wont go back until Scanners releases and I'll pick up 2 more with it. Hopefully I'll have another 20% off coupon to use by then. I wanted to get Videodrome but the only blu-ray copy they have is kind of banged up. Stupid cardboard cases.

Oh my God. Might try this as well.

Love the Criterion Digipacks.

Are there any sleeves out there that would fit these? That's the main reason I dislike Criterion releases that aren't in Blu-Ray disc packaging.

I usually buy these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005RN0VLI/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Unfortunately, they won't fit these thicker cases. I've searched, but haven't found a viable alternative. Would dearly love it if someone could point me in the right direction!

In other news, I ordered another four discs from B&N on Friday and they're sending the via UPS this time (ugh!). UPS's website still lists them as not having been shipped! The order was made five days ago, I wonder if I will receive them at all at this point...dammit, I should have ordered everything at once.
