Demon's Gaze sold 6k in April in the US, so I'm guessing there's a lot of channel stuffing.
Well, given that they shipped 180k (probably like 120k outside of Japan) 3 days after its release, it's pretty evident.

^ Downloads sales, breh.

On a non smartphone-related success story: Demon Gaze passes 200k units worldwide.

https://twitter.com/CHIKAMI_EXP/status/483979175913467906

But what I can say is that it's moved 20K+ since late April: http://www.siliconera.com/2014/04/25/demon-gaze-ships-180000-units-worldwide/

I wonder it includes the copies shipped this week for the re-release.

Anyway, last 14 hours to take your guess on Youkai Watch 2 opening:

Roughly 150k in the west, then. That's great.

You think NISA can stuff the channels? Heh

It's more likely that the split is 160k Asia - 40k ROW or something close to that.

I knew the 150k in the West couldnt be true, but man, if it was, that would be some hard proof to justify getting Experience's other DRPGs over (like Stranger of the Village of the Sword...or the DLC for Demon Gaze, the story ones where you get some of the NPCs as party members...). But still, great job for this game. I remember reading they were surprised when the first week sold out and I think that was like 20-25k.

It sold more than that in Japan. I cant find any sources right now unfortuantely, but i mean to remember have seeing a ~90k number for Japan a while ago.
As with these ones, the dev has been tweeting updated sales numbers every now and then. Presumably they're shipped + digital.

There was the NISA-exclusive limited edition, which is probably 5k, plus european and asian sales.
the kinds of sales experience would know would most likely be sold to retailers, not consumers. whatever nisa sold is a lot higher than the week of april sales it did.

Doesn't seem like others have posted about this, but there's going to be a Youkai Watch 2 Nintendo Direct in Japan this Friday. I'm not sure who doesn't know about it already, but w/e works.

Holy crap! Are those first 2 in-game? haha

I finished the game and never see that one. Well, I haven't dwell into the post game stuff, so that might be appeared later on.
To be fair though, despite the unnecessary fanservice stuff the game is pretty solid. No wonder if its sold so well on both anime and dungeon crawler niche because of that.

Comgnet's retail chain preorder comparisons: Yokai Watch 2's run to the million, as of July 2nd, 2014

[NDS] Inazuma Eleven 3 - 146pt + 134pt = 280pt
[3DS] Pokémon X / Y - 875pt + 857pt = 1,732pt
[3DS] Yokai Watch 2 - 618pt + 477pt = 1,095pt

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Very happy for Level 5 - one of the companies that still caters to handhelds even when they are expanding their mobile efforts, one of the few companies still delivering new IPs on a regular.

Hope we will get a Fantasy Life sequel as well - maybe on the 4DS as an MMO *believe*

Wonder what ever happened to Layton 7 and the console ports of Wonderflick. Haven't really heard much this year about their mobile efforts

Nintendo have hopefully knocked on Level 5's door and asked if they could make Youkai Watch 3 for 4DS launch like they did for Layton on 3DS.

It'll be funny if it turns out YW is one of the series that gets disproportionally (over)pre-ordered on Comgnet. haha

Hell, if Ninty is smart, they will come to LV-5 to give them help to develop Yokai Watch for Wii U exclusively here.

That one will be an even bigger seller here.

...Eeeeh. I think YW3 could come out next Summer, or better next July, just like JW2.
But a JW3 "The Ogre" version, with a good amount of new content, with cross-discount for those owning JW3 on 3DS if you buy it digitally, exclusive to next handheld AND at launch? I think it could be a possibility.

I think this is a possibility when they see how well Yokai Watch 2 will do this year. Not sure if it will be a bigger seller because it looks more at home on a handheld, but looks like Yokai Watch is one of the few Japan system sellers alive right now.

I dont know if they dont wanna piss of Nintendo because they published the Layton games and made it big in the west, but i am suprised that they havent ported the original Layton games to iOS/mobile so far, they could make some money with that and use it as a promotion for L7.

Then again it wouldnt shock me if L7 is somehow 3DS exclusive anyway and Layton will be in Smash Bros.

on WiiU ? xD

Depending on the systems power Nintendo could convince 3rdParties to develop their big upcoming games with 4DS/WiiU in mind - thats what essentially kept the Vita alive the first 2 years.

If they optimize their dev environment for multi-development on WiiU/4DS games, their home console could finally benefit from their 3rd party support in the handheld space. The power difference between 3DS and WiiU is still too big for that and the 3DS doesnt support many modern engines. If they are smart 4DS and WiiU will share engines, NFC, Virtual Console support and of course their NNiD. Hope they dont screw up the 4DS launch this time.

YW3 on 4DS/WiiU using the Ninokuni Engine :)

He he, that's some really good numbers.

If there's ever a Youkai Watch game on anything else than the 3DS, it's 100% guaranteed to be a spin-off (like the Inazuma Eleven Strikers games on Wii). Now what a YW spin-off would look like... I got no idea.

Or perhaps it was taken out of the western version? Which would be a shame. ;)
I really don't mind fanservice btw.
I certainly won't go looking for games that include it, but if it's there, it certainly won't put me off either.

What is a channel stuffing?

Channel stuffing is when a company uses it's clout/influence to force more product into the retail distribution network than can be sold, usually to inflate sales numbers for whatever reason (PR, increase stock price, increase bonuses, etc.). It is why salesgaf always askes if the numbers are sold through to customers or just shipped.

Nintendo numbers are funny though because they do not take returns (unique in the industry I believe), so their shipped numbers are as good as sold to their investors. It is also why sometimes it is hard to find games etc when they are hot, like Fire Emblem: Awakening and the Mario Kart bundle, as retailers are hesitant to over-order and be stuck with hard to sell stock.

Famitsu -WatchDogs sells 105k, 66k on PS4, 39k PS3. Hardware PS4 8200, PS3 7500 slight improvement WoW, but WiiU sells 9k,3DS 26k,Vita26k

So much for that PS4 boost, heh. PS Vita did as I expected, between 20 and 30k.

Still disappointing that this is one of the biggest Vita games releasing in Japan and it only manages to boost Vita sales by 10k

A 13k boost. So it doubled the sales of last week.

And that's what happens when no hardware bundle is released alongside a decent sized game.

As I expected, just like Nintendo needs to let go of Mario, it's now time for Sony to try something other than hunting games.

next year Soul Sacrifice 2 and Freedom Wars plus ;)
the hunting genre has been popular for quite some time now and it seems Sony wants to overcompensate their loss of MH but I agree that their PSV support is starting to get a little bit too monotonous.

Eh, since this is Famitsu, it means Wii U went up, even if by less than 1,000 units. Wondering if it'll be the same for MC / Dengeki or if both of them will show another decrase, and all trackers start being more or less aligned again.

Of course it would be more with a hardware bundle, but it's still depressing that there needs to be hardware bundle for every big vita games just so it boosts hardware sales more.

The quite high number for Watch Dog is quite surprising. The lack of hardware boost for PS4 mean that the game mostly sold to existing PS4 owner then.

If you read the import thread, you know Freedow Wars is something different (though I can deny that Sony marketed it as one).
