Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Claire Danes, "Homeland"

!!!

For me, the true detective of 2014 was Will Graham.

Word.

Excluding Breaking Bad, True Detective outclasses EVERYTHING else by quite some distance. Near utter perfection.

Please, there's nothing perfect about True Detective. It's a good show, but The Good Wife and Mad Men are worlds better. Breaking Bad ain't 'bout much either.

An Emmy nom/win for Tatiana Maslany is as much as Orphan Black really needs.

She is the show. A nomination for her might as well be a nomination for the show itself.

The fundamental problem is the show is like a Whedon property. It can't decide whether it wants to be a drama or a comedy at times, and so it flits between the two and that's problematic. I don't think anyone can deny Maslany's versatility as an actress in bringing to life the many characters she does, but all of the characters themselves are pretty one note, and in truth I can't think of one scene this season that really hooked me in terms of character performance.

I don't think they're looking to reward endeavour, they're looking to reward performance.

I agree that not every clone Tatiana plays is super dynamic and worthy of awards. Most of them are pretty basic characters, and the marvel is in how completely she embodies them.

But still, her performance as Rachel Duncan this season should have clinched the nomination. Tatiana really takes on all of the clones really well (and Cosima is actually the clone who most consistently makes me forget I'm looking at Tatiana), but some of her scenes as Rachel this season genuinely left me awestruck.

I mean, this scene alone should have gotten it.

I'm sad no nominations from Mindy Project :( I love that show!

I felt bad for Kaling announcing those nominations. I think her show has been steadily improving. I like all the guest stars too. Seth Rogan, James Franco, Timothy Olyphant and Kevin Smith being some of my favorites.

Wow, season 3 bored you? That's interesting because it was probably the least "boring" of all 4 seasons so far (with the exception of maybe s2). BWE is a slower paced show, but I'd never never call it boring personally. I have to wonder about anyone who can't sit through 40 minutes of such a top notch drama without getting bored.

I didn't say that it bored me. It's slow as molasses which means plenty of opportunities for me to doze off. Perhaps you missed the part where I said that I like the show? I have to wonder about people who like to assume things I never said and put words in my mouth.

P.S. Boardwalk Empire episodes run longer than the standard 40 minutes for broadcast series because it's on HBO.

I will agree that the second season of OB was a bit uneven, but Tatiana Maslany was top notch throughout, especially with Rachel. There's probably at least one scene per episode that should've earned her a nomination.

Nevermind your insane comments about Hannibal, but True Detective was so uneven when it came to writing. The (well-written and eloquent) monologues that ended up amounting to nothing

What does this even mean? What would count as the monologues amounting to something?

Also, if this is any indication:

True Detective is a show that acts like its going to provide a new perspective on what it means to try to exist as a human being and what it means to be good, by concluding that yes, the two leads are good guys, that the world is just a battle between good and evil.

I think you seriously misread the show and its ending.

Seeing people shit on True Detective while praising Hannibal is like watching a mental patient throw his feces at you while calling you crazy.

To be fair, seeing you heap praise on True Detective while shitting all over Hannibal is just plain surreal. As in, my mind dissolves into a liquid haze when I try to relate to your point of view.

Strike Back is the best action series running right now.

Banshee
Vikings
Person of Interest

all have good action too

edit: nathan for you should just win for best achievement to humanity. is there an award titled this? time to introduce it.

I'd love to see Lizzy Caplan pull an upset in the Best Lead Actress in a Drama category.

That would be swell.

That would have me leaping out of my chair cheering. It would be a totally deserved victory for a show that didn't get anywhere near the number of nominations that it should have.

The praise for True Detective is so insanely overblown.

It's really is. I get that many people liked it significantly more than I did, but all the people acting like it's the pinnacle of television are baffling. HBO has made literally dozens of shows over the years that are significantly better than it.

Personally I wish Arrow got a nomination in this category. I think it has the most consistently interesting fight scenes on television.

Lizzy Caplan's nomination was wholly undeserved though. I can think of quite a few other actresses who should have been nominated over her: Tatiana Maslany, Keri Russell, Elizabeth Moss...

I still need to watch that!

Eh, I wouldn't say wholly undeserved, though I would have much rather have seen Michael Sheen nominated.

Still no Emmy Rossum?

What the fuck, who cares about Hannibal or Orphan Black. Where is Emmy Rossum's nomination?

Her performance was fine, but, really, nothing more than that. I don't understand all of the love her performance receives - she plays one of the least interesting characters on the show.

Honestly, I've said it before but Allison Janey and Beau Bridges' story really eclipsed Sheen and Caplan's.

The Emmy's really need a cinematography category. Programs like True Detective, Hannibal, Top of the Lake, and Breaking Bad deserve some props for their work.

Really would have liked to see Brooklyn Nine-Nine in Best Comedy (it would be my winner if I was choosing). Maybe one of the women for best supporting actress too (I like all three, but I like Chelsea Peretti the most).

And Tatiana Maslany should be in the Best Actress in a Drama category. Like B99, she'd be my choice to win that one if she was in too.

Those are my biggest gripes.

Good to see Louie was finally nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.

It's a about fucking time. Louis CK
or Alec Baldwin
losing best actor Jim Parsons is bad enough (and it is bad), but losing to Jon fucking Cryer is one of the most baffling decisions in recent memory.

Orphan Black snub was ridiculous. Tatiana was robbed.

I guess OITNB gets the buzz spot this year, and Silicon Valley gets the "it's so bad that it's probably supposed to be really deep" spot. (aka Girls)

That scene still creeps me out. Human-like Rachel feels almost like an alien creature.

Edit: Why Strike-Back's snub in the Stunt Coordination category is a HEAP OF BULLSHIT, in two GIFs

Oh, and that's actually one of the main actors, not an actual stuntman. Because the show is insane like that.

Now you go and tell me which show among the noms have better stunts. I dare you. I double dare you.

Those Boardwalk shots, though, jesus.

I have friends complaining that Arrow didn't get nominated for anything, LOL.

yeah if that true detective episode with the long take didn't exist then it would have been criminal to snub boardwalk empire. consistently the best looking show on tv.

The Good Wife snubbed, wow.

At least the principals got nom'd, so that's good. Hopefully Julianna takes it home again, she deserves it.

How can praise be overblown? People like it. So they praise it. Many people think it's one of the better seasons of television HBO has put out in a long time. So here we are. It's pretty simple.

The Miniseries category is an absolute joke that the Emmy's really need to figure out.

Apparently a Mini-Series means three different things:

-A single season of a serialized anthology show. (American Horror Story, Fargo, but not True Detective for some reason)
-A one-off season of television. (The White Queen)
-A season of an on-going series that is less than 6 episodes (Treme, Luther.)

I dunno, these all sound like super different things to me.
