Good Guy EA™ ends supports for Sims 2, BUT offers free upgrade to Ultimate Collection

If only I could buy it for cheap. Sims 2 is best Sims. Maybe it's time for me to buy a copy on Amazon and then call EA to link it.

Worth a try. There's some copies of the game on Amazon for like 10 bucks. If you're even remotely interested in playing it you can get all the expansions for just 10 bucks, so that's a pretty good deal.

I know your meaning play the game before passing judgement, but seriously have you not been paying attention to what the game is cutting.

I know about that but I thought the demo was out already. I went and checked and it is not out yet.

That's true.

But I really do feel bad for the people who bought all the stuff packs.

Meh, so every time there's a steam sale you feel bad for people who bought all those games full price ?

Discounts and giveaways happen, we all know that. It's a good move from EA.

I literally just bought a copy of Sims 2: Double Deluxe off of eBay (it hasn't even arrived yet). Not sure if I should be happy I'll be getting all the other expansions & stuff packs free or upset about the extra money I spent to get the Double Deluxe version.

I think it comes down to Sims 2 reactivations through origin chat support were happening often enough. Every few months I have to contact support to reactivate my sims 2 even though I changed nothing on my computer.

I still have my copy lying around somewhere that i only played a handful of times (barely ran on my pentium 2, didn't play it much after buying a pentium 4.... yet i still used the original sims regularly).

Wait, what? I have TS2 but had no idea you could register it on Origin. How do you do that? If I do it now will I still be eligible for the upgrade?

Oh, cool. I have the retail version for The Sims 2 but I doubt that will register on Origin.

Fake-edit: Oh, you can? Seems I need to find my Sims 2.

So, I have this on DVD. How can I link my copy to Origin in order to upgrade it? Any way to do this?

EDIT: Wait, I just have to redeem the CD Key and that's it? Awesome then.

Sounds like a PR stunt. Like who the hell gets technical support for Sims 2? They probably had the janitor on shift answer the emails for that.

The target audience for Sims game is often the kind of people who would use technical support on a regular basis.

The couple old ladies still playing Sims 2 on their Gateway 2000 rigs will be pleasantly surprised with this news when they read it via AOL.com using their Netscape Navigator browser.

To everyone saying they only have a boxed copy: there's been plenty reports in this thread and on other sites that Origin support will help you get a digital copy on Origin. You'll have to wait in support for a while, but they seem to honor pretty much every request.

I think you'd be surprised by how many people still dip into Sims 2 frequently. Sims 3 has terrible loadtimes, especially if you have most of the expansions. Sims-fans usually don't have the most high-end hardware so something like Sims 2 is still decently popular. Plus, there's enough people with fond memories of the game that this is still a pretty good deal.

is it considered bad to loose "technical support" for a 10 year old
single player
game? ôo

can't you just continue playing it... offline?

My girlfriend's new laptop came with Windows 8.

She had me wipe it and install Windows 7 not because she was frustrated with 8, but because The Sims 2 is not compatible with it.

A guy I know just spent around an hour on the phone with Origin support trying to link his physical copy of The Sims 2 to his Origin account, but it was apparently already used somehow.

They gave him a free copy of the Ultimate Edition anyway. Everything went better than expected he says!

Just reiterating that I had physical copies for Sims 2, but never could get it onto Origin. After seeing this thread, I contacted chat support and sat in queue for an hour. After a 10 minute conversation with support, and setting up a Pogo account (stupid) I got my Sims 2 Code activation and a 15% discount on my next purchase. And he confirmed I'll be getting Ultimate Sims 2 and it will have all the expansions.

I'd rather Sims 4 was decent, but at least this was a nice change.

Origin support is really great with getting your EA games onto the service. Definitely try to contact them about all pre-Origin non redeemable EA games that you own a boxed copy or digital copy on another service.

Absolutely this, just did it myself. Had Sims 2 and a bunch of expansions tied to an old Maxis account that used my email and they gave me Ultimate Collection when I contacted them, even though I wasn't technically eligible.

They also gave me Simcity 4 a few months ago when I asked and provided my keys.

Tried it out and I can't figure out how to start a game. No neighborhood is available and when I want to create a new one, no options are available. Also, they said I'm running low on disk space despite having over 30 gb free. Hoping I'm just missing something obvious.

Just contacted EA customer support to register my retail version and I now have the Ultimate Collection on my account, so it works. :)

Thing is, the guy didn't even ask for my key or anything. I said I had a retail copy I'd like to register and he just...gave me a key for the Ultimate Collection. No questions asked. :p

Just checked and it's there. It includes all of the stuff packs and expansions right? I've been meaning to install Sims 2 and 3 on my new PC, but it's a pain in the ass to install all of the expansions one at a time.

Can someone else confirm this?

obvious scam from EA trying to get people to 'upgrade' [read: downgrade] to Origin (RIP) from their cheery, virgin pure, kind and decent origin-free versions. don't fall for it maaaaaaaan.

I got my physical copy registered on Origin relatively hassle free, but so far it doesn't seem to be the ultimate collection yet. I'll have to see if it gets automatically upgraded at some point, I might have to check with support again if it doesn't.

Ending support for yet another game

Yes, a game that has been out for a decade. The Sims 2 was released the same year Bush was re-elected as president of the US, Facebook was launched, the Olympics were held in Athens and the finale of Friends was aired. Do you understand how much time has passed between now and the launch of the game?

Can I register a retail copy because I'm like 80% I own one of them. Nevermind read the thread, you can. Holy fuck this is going to be agony finding it though, it's been years since I've even seen it.

I remember seeing used copies of The Sims 2 and its expansions in a second hand store for like 2 bucks each... I probably should buy one of them this weekend.

Depends on the Customer Support Rep, I guess. I had to give the CSR the keys for the old EA games I have (4 in total, including The Sims 2 Deluxe), and now I'm waiting for an e-mail with the Origin-compatible keys.
I tried last night registering my Sims 2 key and the CSR said that the key had already been registered by someone else, and gave me a 15% off voucher.
Just what I wanted lmao

I can post the chat transcript if you'd like. (And if that's allowed. I'm still not entirely familiar with this sites rules. I'm always paranoid I'll be breaking some obscure one. :p)

Where can I contact them that it's not on the phone? An e-mail? I have a retail copy, would like a ultimate collection :p

The wait for a CSR with the live chat is like 40 minutes, what the hell? Do they only have one person working now or something?

Guess I'll say how it goes trying to redeem my retail copy whenever they get to me.
