Fatal Frame: Nuregarasu no Miko trailer + screenshots (Sep 27 in Japan)

Played two of these on PS2,scared me! I thought we were only up 3, making this new one 4. Did two of them come out on Wii? I remember fans doing to a hack to make the text English on one game.

Yeah, never got localized because it was a mess.

If this is any good, I'd say odds are up.

I'd almost buy a Wii U if it lives up to its legacy.

濡鴉 literally means "wet crow" but it is used to describe the color of a woman's hair (and it's apparently a beauty ideal), according to Wikipedia (I've lived in Japan for 10 years and have never heard of this word, but this series has a penchant for stuff like that):

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/濡烏

Note that the Wikipedia page uses a different kanji for karasu, but that's nothing out of the ordinary (the Wikipedia one is more common).

A 巫女 (Miko) is a "shrine maiden," although this is often translated as "priestess" or a variety of other things because "shrine maiden" just sounds dumb.

As an example, Agnès in Bravely Default is also a Miko.

Never played any Fatal Frame games for some reason. From what I'm reading it sounds like a stand-alone game, but can someone confirm this? Based on past games, are there usually recurring characters or concepts that would be confusing having not played any of the other games?

first 3 games are a trilogy and actually linked. 4th is standalone, i believe. dunno about this new one.

Was the second one linked to the other games? I thought that was the only standalone. I remember Project Zero 3 was pretty linked to the first one but I swear that was the only link. As for the 4th one, yeah, it's pretty standalone.

Bugged to hell. Apparently Nintendo wanted to localize it but needed the fixes, for some reason Tecmo refused and that was the end of it.

Where did you see this at? I remember hearing that before but never found where it came from.

I can't find anything more recent than this : http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009...-for-exclusives-avoiding-the-japan-wii-slump/

MTV Multiplayer: "Fatal Frame 4," published by Nintendo in Japan. There's been confusion and mixed signals about whether that's coming to America.

Fils-Aime: We are not the publisher of that title in the Americas. So I can't comment on it… I don't know if it has a publisher.

tecmo then said

Nintendo holds the publishing rights to ‘Fatal Frame Wii,’ which was developed by Tecmo LTD. and Grasshopper Manufacture and released in Japan on July 31, 2008. Nintendo of America has since then decided not to publish the title in North America – consequently, the title will not be released in this territory. As the owner of the IP, Tecmo feels very unfortunate that the fans of the series in North America will not have a chance to play the game, but respects the final decision made by Nintendo of America.

I am guessing the contract they have does not allow anyone except Nintendo to publish it.

There have been more Nintendo-published Fatal Frame games skipped over for localization than there have been ones released in the west. By about 100%.

I know people think that they need games and that's why this one will come here, but Nintendo falling down is rarely sufficient impetus for them to flip on precedent.

Considering there have been three games of which two have been localized I'd assume that you are living in the "US is the only country in the world, yo" camp.

Here are some of the details went over on stream translated by Chelsea, the person who helped translate Fatal Frame IV and various Fatal Frame guides, of what was said on stream:

The game is called Zero: Nuregarasu no Miko (Zero: The Wet Crow Shrine Maiden - 零 ~濡鴉ノ巫子~)
It's out on 27/9 in Japan for 6600 yen
The theme song is Higanbana by Anju
It's set in a mountain called Hikamiyama
There is a Japanese manor and graves, and people who choose death are said to go there, to the "mountain of death"
A big theme is water
There will be multiple endings
The protagonist is called Yuuri Kozukata (不来方有莉)
Yuuri's special ability, which she's had since childhood, is seeing the secrets of items she touches ("seeing shadows")
She brings those who have been spirited away and are now invisible from the "shadow world"; taking a request to look for someone who's been spirited away she goes to the mountain in question
There are lots of open areas and places that are like spots you would go to on a dare
Screenshots: http://www.4gamer.ne...43/20140717028/
The gamepad is confirmed for taking photos

The manga is called Shadow Miko (IIRC?) and is out TOMORROW, chapter 1 comes at midnight on mangabox
Novel changed to 25/8 release
Hollywood movie called "Fatal Frame" confirmed to be in production by Samuel Hadida, who worked on Resident Evil

That's a really clever name.
Do it!

For now we should at least wait for the next Nintendo Direct before we start anything.
If Nintendo or T-K hasn't announced anything by the end of September then I say it's safe to say they have no intention to bringing it over. Which means that we shouldn't start some kind of raffle before October, imo.

Fatal Frame is one of the games that could be really, REALLY good with the Gamepad. I can just imagine the jump scares they could pull off when you switch between the camera on the gamepad and the actual screen...

I'd definitely be nice if this got a Western release!
