Welcome to the Official NeoGAF Soft Drink Thread. Before you twist the cap here, please review the following, all taste-tasted by our refreshing mods:

Thread Rules:

1. No alcoholic or mixology discussion. This is a dry thread.

2. No discussion regarding the health effects of soft drinks. Please keep posts about sugar/hfcs/artificial sweeteners in drinks focused on taste only.

3. No term wars. Do not fight over whether soda, pop, coke, etc is the "correct" term for soft drinks.

If any of the above truly concerns or interests you, please create a separate thread for discussion.

So what flavor is this thread?

This thread exists for discussing your favorite major, minor, and indie soft drink brands from all over the world or even homemade creations. Feel free to critique the newest releases, get hype for upcoming ones or lament discontinued products.

Energy, sports, and sweetened tea/coffee drinks are welcome, please use your best judgement.

Being an international forum, I look forward to seeing beverages from all over the world, photos are encouraged.

Disclaimer:

Soft drinks are not part of a healthy and balanced diet. Overconsumption of the discussed drinks can be hazardous to your health. If you are concerned about your level of sugar intake, I recommend watching this video. Please enjoy yourself in moderation.

Fanta Grape
FANTA%20GRAPE%20600ML.jpg

Probably one of the most grape-tasting soda's I've ever had.

It's very, very sweet, yes, but there's the taste of actual grape in it. My granddad used to have a small garden in NYC, this taste's like his grapes were used in it, brings back nice memories. It could stand to be a bit less sweet, but it stands tall above other generic grape sodas.

8.5/10 (I tolerate very sweet things better than most)

going to start this thread off with three newer fountain only titles from PepsiCo.

Mtn Dew Solar Flare

This one is exclusive to 7-11 and its a good thing too. It’s awful. Supposed to be a tropical punch dew variant, but tastes like that old failed Typhoon flavor mixed with floor varnish. The aftertaste is so toxic, I would avoid at all costs. 0/10, ban, perm.

Mtn Dew Sangrita Blast

This was another bad idea for the dew brand. Only on tap at Taco Bell, this tastes nothing like sangria, which is understandable for cheap fountain soda. However, what I got in my cup tasted like a mouthful of lemon warheads in purple dye. 1/10 if you love drinking super sour things or chemical weapons, otherwise stay away.

Manzanita Sol

Another Taco Bell exclusive, this is an apple flavored soda that apparently has been around in Mexico for a while. The first sip gave me flashbacks to my childhood, when you could find Slice apple soda in any supermarket. Its nothing super special, but definitely a pleasant change of pace from typical colas and citrus sodas. 8/10, would drink again.

In a world where Blue raspberry-flavored snacks/drink are disgusting, there is one hero:

Mountain Dew Voltage. It's a blue raspberry soda without the unfortunate (yet common) after taste that usually sticks to the flavor. So drop that Baja Blast, son. I've been drinking more of it now that I'm at home finishing up some schooling and staying up late messing around.

I also shamelessly lived off of Canada Dry for my latter college years. As a child I despised Ginger Ale, but as I got older, I've gained a taste for it. After getting acquainted with Canada Dry, I've almost never taken a normal Sprite again (and only for sake of variety when I have).

When regularing Qdoba I got some Seagram's Ginger Ale (Flavored and Original) and enjoyed that as well. I'm guessing Canada Dry/Seagram's are to Ginger Ale what Hi-C is to fruit punch, so I'd like some suggestions on good/best ginger ale if GAF has any.

I remember the first time I ordered coke zero at a Chick Fil a years ago

As soon as I drank it, I thought 'this is too good to be a diet coke'

It's my fav. diet cola, followed by diet pepsi with shitty diet coke dead last

never understood how people drank diet coke, its so acrid

Soda is now special occasion fare for me, don't really like diet and found Seltzer to be good enough for that bubbly craving. That being said when those special occasions do roll around or I'm traveling and find something weird and regional I go all in,

I prefer Mountain Dew and its variants, but I absolutely love a good Root Beer.

best bottled root beer I've had (fair warning, Im not a huge fan of it) was from Sprecher

was quite a shock from having only barqs and A&W experiences prior

I don't even want to fathom how many cases of Pitch Black II I'd hoard if it ever came back again.

I barely had any of that, was impossible to find in my area

This will be a good thread for someone that is going to Japan in a few weeks. Though I largely avoid sugar, so hopefully you're interested in reviews of Japanese diet soft drinks.

Asian markets here never have diet ones, except maybe if I go all the way to Mitsuwa

UK Pespi Max is my life's blood. First thing I drink in the morning, last thing I drink at night. The caffeine really doesn't disrupt my sleep, which might actually be a bigger issue. I can do without it and will switch to water every full moon or there abouts.

US Max is so dry and flavourless. When I'm in the states I switch to diet Mountain Dew. Of which I am very fond.

There's one local store near me that stocks Baja Blast, a little candy shop in the mall with an inexplicably wide soda selection. It's also the only place that stocks White Out.

Whiteout tasted like plain sugar to me, did not enjoy it at all

Yeah, I actually got a Mitsuwa about an hour or so away from me that I've been to once. I could just as easily drive there and gather up a selection of Japanese soft drinks.

Possibly the worst non diet drink with the Dew label ever made.

Hell I hate Diet drinks almost across the board and would take Diet Code Red and Diet Dew over the regular version.
