'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

That is just sickening, lol. I'm surprised they didn't say the game was about Ellen and her dad Joe on a cross country trip to find the crumbling remains of Wally World.

How can you work in this industry and be so clueless about this stuff?!
Surely a site like ign can find and hire people that actually know what they're talking about?
4 people in that room spewing that BS, holy crap.
Whoever came up with the "can't spell ignorance without ign" line was right on the money.

To be absolutely fair, it's not like Greg or Colin are champions of 'resolutionframerate.'

Nobody is asking them to write code but when you write about something there's a basic amount of knowledge that is expected from you. I mean come on, these guys are paid professionals.

Its baffling considering you can't be worth your salt as a film critic without knowing about some of the more technical aspects of film making. The same should go for gaming. A good/great game should get marked down for technically running bad. That's why I'm quick to accuse the press as being enthusiast press instead of anything close to true journalism.

I don't know if this is indicative of the close ties between the press and games industry.

Have you noticed how modern news networks operate? The most successful ones are just telling people what they want to hear. IGN has realized this works for games too. So the IGN Xbox team caters to that audience, and tells them what they want to hear. This doesn't bother most people even when it comes to the real world news, so it should come as no surprise it's going unchallenged in other media.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

These guys are ignorant about these things and that is perfectly fine. Two of them unfortunately paired their ignorance with authority which results in hilarity.

I wouldn't have made the thread if Mitch Dyer wasn't so authoritative in his response to the first guy.

Though this is most likely true, from what I've seen from these guys in all kinds of shows/podcasts/articles/etc, most of them are indeed pretty damn clueless about the technical stuff.
I guess what you're describing is just adding lack of integrity to the list. Not that I really care, I'd just like to see the baseline of what is necessary to cover this industry in a professional manner get raised a bit.

And holy shit at Druckmann's tweet, are people really that stupid?

Much crisper on PS4, better lighting, better shadows, even the models for the leaves look improved.

Yes, I am comparing title screenshots. Yes, we are that desperate. :p

Don't know why but the image just now reminded me of the early days of the "The Walking Dead" Comic Books, which then reminded of the "The Last of Us" black and white render modes.

How is the multiplayer? I played very little of TLOU multiplayer on ps3 and it didn't impress me much, but that was in the first month of release and before any bug fixes. Have they improved the latency and hit detection? I remember downing players and then magically getting hit seconds after they were downed. Will there be any changes in the ps4 version?

I scaled the PS3 image up so we get a fair comparison against the same screen surface:

That isn't a fair comparison at all. The image you started with was already a poor, heavily compressed capture from PS3. Now you've enlarged and distorted it.

This is a better (but still compressed) example of what the PS3 produces:

Multiplayer is great. Is nothing like I have ever played. It blends stealth along with action seamlessly. It also requires a lot of teamwork, going at it lone wolf style rarely works.

I never understood the implication,
it's Ellie's knife, so presumably it's a location she visits after the events of the game, but it doesn't look like it'd be in Tommy's town.

I don't think there's any underlying implication. Just a slight addition to show you've finished the game.

Lets try the opposite. I'm scaling the ps4 version down to 720p and comparing it with that new image.

I noticed right away when the game took me back to the title screen after the credits. Nice detail.

Please put me on the hype plane before all seats are taken! Thanks!
