I love great video game stories. Today, the narrative potential of our medium has never been greater. The best video games blend world-class acting, writing, music and gameplay to create art that rivals the best works in other entertainment mediums.

To celebrate that point, I’m excited to announce an experimental project I’ve been working on with Naughty Dog and PlayStation.

On Monday 28th July, one of last year’s most acclaimed games, The Last of Us, will come to the theatrical stage in Los Angeles for a special one-night-only performance.

One Night Live will highlight the artistry behind The Last of Us with a live reading of select scenes by the principal actors, under the direction of Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog. Scheduled to appear are Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Merle Dandridge, Hana Hayes, and Annie Wersching. In addition, Academy Award winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla will perform selections from his score. How this all fits together will remain a bit of a mystery until it happens, but trust me when I say it will be a very special evening.

TL;DR - Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, etc acting scenes from the game directed by Neil Druckmann, music performed live by Gustavo Santolalla. Being put together by Geoff Keighley.

It's happening next week, July 28, at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica. Details on registering for tickets can be found at the link. Some sections of the show will also be streamed on YouTube, Twitch and PSN.

Man, it'd be awesome to see the way they can perform in real life, and how the videogame graphics translated those performances.

So cool. I loved seeing their performances in the Grounded documentary. You'd think it'd be strange, because Baker's too young and Johnson's too old, but it's very entertaining.

Just got my tickets. Are they giving out unlimited tickets and gonna be first come first serve or are these tickets gonna go really fast?

I felt the opposite. After seeing that doc when I play TLOU I can't help sometimes picturing Baker as a Joel, giving me a total disconnect. Thankfully I had already finished the game before seeing Grounded. :p

This is a neat idea though.

Just got my two tickets. Gonna make the drive from SD. I love this game so much, it'll make the wait til midnight that night more bareable. And DAMN THAT FOOTAGE LOOKS GOOD!

I'm hoping Troy Baker gets a case of the giggles, and laughs in the opening scene, thus ruining the tension of everything after.

Cringing at the idea but if they're willing to do it it must be worth it right? Would be nice to watch it some time and judge.
