Why do you find a preview video showing the 1080p build on XB1 pathetic?

To be fair, IGN during that video has spun the narrative that once resolution numerical parity has been achieved, there is no more graphical difference between the two versions and that they will be identical. After creating the narrative that resolution doesn't matter, their new narrative once XBO gets to 1080p is that resolution is ALL that mattered.

If they implemented voice commands then they'd need Kinect, which they're disabling to get to 1080p.

You are missing a lot lately. Voice commands have nothing to do with the reserve. The reserve was meant for gesture processing. Do you seriously think that MS would allow someone to use the reserve and shut down "Xbox Record That".

The Kinect is not shut down. The GPU reserved power to process gestures for the game like leaning. If a developer didn't want them in, then they said no need and use that reserve. This is just like someone saying unplugging it increases the power.

CoD Ghosts is running at 720p on Xbox One
IGN- "1080p isn't even noticeable unless you're on a 50"+ screen!"

Destiny is running at 1080p on Xbox One
IGN- "See folks! Look how great 1080p is and it's on Xbox One!"

Because what was the point of the video? They tell you that beta will be 900p, but they shill out and just made the video to make sure you know it will be 1080p at launch. Seriously lol? Have they ever made a video like that? The guy even said something as retarded as "Fanboys will need to know both will be the exact same". Which they won't. PS4 SHOULD still have graphical improvements in other areas. Since it is the more powerful console.

This chart only works when the concerned gamer only cares about resolution instead of IQ.

IMO, The gulf in power between the PS4 and X1 is too large to justify complete parity (all aspects of IQ) in any third party game.

yeah, it's gaf dude, good luck with that

Yep, my keyboard is rumbling already from the stampede that's approaching. It'll be on levels exceeding even the stampede that led to Mufasa's death in the Lion King.

Jokes aside, I'm interested to see how this game turns out. If the game is somehow not where it needs to be performance wise, or if too many noticeable cutbacks were made to achieve 1080p, then I really think they would've just been better off sticking with 900p instead. I'm worried the real reason the game is going for 1080p on release will be for all the wrong reasons, but we won't know till the game actually releases, I guess. I hope more devs don't fall into the 1080p trap if the game would genuinely be better off at a lower resolution. I felt games have looked great at lower resolutions, which is why I don't get all the fuss.

Once you learn it's Ryan you learn not to pay attention to him about stuff like this. You'll live longer.

If they did this I would fully expect them to implement X1 voice commands.

Fine by me. Doesn't affect me either way. But like someone said, they disabled Kinect for more power I think.

I think the press and hold is just meant to act as a "casting time" and to prevent you from doing it by accident, but I agree that it could be made more convenient.

Ehhh, the convenience is worth any maybe accidental slip ups. Everything right now is so slow.

Those are some good ideas.

Thanks. Worked beautifully in killzone and that had 4 directions to it. Never once had a problem with it.

Is Youtube video compression getting worse?

Is it just me, or does the clarity of the video look better on IGN's site than Youtube?

Pretty much. My older laptop can run a LOT of games at 1080p like my newer one. That doesn't mean the textures, lighting, and other effects will be the same.

heh

i've got more important stuff to think about in my head at the moment to risk a ban for certain people and discussions

I thought voice commands were OS only and to use them in game you'd need to dip into the reserve? If that's not the case, hey, my first mistake in a while. :D

I should probably dig into my XB1 dev kit a bit more.

This is my issue of the parity argument. The definition of parity is not so cut and try as some might think. In the video Chris' definition of parity can probably mean that they simply got Destiny to 1080p and a locked 30 just on the PS4. Who is to say that there won't be any graphical difference? Who is to say that they can't tweak the graphics in the future?

I don't think devs should be condemned because they didn't squeeze every last bit of graphical juice that they can. The team had a graphical goal with the PS4 (obviously the lead system) and they stuck with it there. Now they're trying to get the X1 up to that same standard.

Not sure what warrants being being banned here, but the attitude of so many of these people is atrocious.

This is what gaming has been reduced to?

If the game runs the same on the platform you don't support, it's a reason to lose your minds?

Would be nice if the mods pushed back harder against these kinds of people. It would discourage the behavior that is far too common here.

Lol. The parity bitching is getting old already. If you want games that take full advantage of the consoles they're on, play first party games. Destiny while it looks good and i enjoy the art direction, hardly looks to be pushing any boundries graphically. Should run just as good on both consoles.

There are many different types of posts in here. Generalizing is just as bad as the people you're complaining about IMO.

It's kind of sad listening to Ryan from IGN getting all excited about the "parity". As if it's to be applauded that Bungie isn't taking full advantage of the PS4 hardware.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting there should be massive differences, but there should be clear differences with the amount of extra juice the PS4 is offering.

I agree. Also, can't stand Ryan. He is so slated for Microsoft it's irritating.

Think he was talking about the IGN commentary. If you hear it, it does sound like IGN really wanted you to know that the versions were the same. At one point, they were repeating the answers that the Bungie rep just gave them, just to say 1080p. A transcript wowd be hilarious to read, I think they said 1080p over 15 times.

I love love love that that the guy giddy over this is the same guy that said you couldn't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a <50 inch TV mere months ago.

Who exactly is losing their mind here?

Yeah that's what got me too, lol.

I am happy there is gonna be parity for X1 only owners though, good on Bungie.

The worst thing about Ryan Mccaffrey is that he loves to talk about "fanboys", and how irritating they can be, all the while saying things that are clearly fanboyish himself. His hypocrisy is hilarious sometimes.

I've seen no one complaining the XB1 can run this game at 1080p. What people do get upset about is if the game looks identical on both consoles. The PS4 has a clear hardware advantage, and thus the only reason a game should look identical across both consoles is if the developer simply didn't want to use any of that additional power on the PS4. There is no excuse for that.

Exactly. Pure MS shill video.

Your statement is incorrect.
Voice commands are unaffected by the June SDK. They could have all the voice commands they wanted and still get that chunk of resources from the Kinect.

it's only the visual portions of Kinect that they can't use and still get 1080p

Jesus Christ at the dumbass Sony fanboys. Destiny on PS4 will probably have extra graphical bells and whistles, despite both versions running at 1080p.

In fact, it's probably worse for Xbox One owners that this game is 1080p. IMO it would be better to scale the resolution back to 900p and keep frame rate solid and the graphical effects improved.

Of course there are.

The point I was making is that there are far too many posts from people who bring nothing but negativity to the conversation.

Let's be honest, this place is obviously very much Sony oriented, but threads like these bring out the worst from the worst.

It's not about using the extra power. It's about providing an equal experience when it is possible.

Are PS4 owners paying more for their copies of Destiny? Are they giving Bungie something extra that people on other consoles aren't?

Well you are a little more on point with the OS based stuff, but everything should still be working. Eurogamer went into more detail here.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-06-17-how-the-xbox-one-gpu-reserve-unlock-actually-works

Voice commands are not affected.

Ah sorry, I'll edit my comment.

So you're saying it should be bannable that people want devs to actually make use of more poweful hardware?

This is great news and I can't wait to get my hands on the beta.

Please let's not turn this into a console war / parity whine thread.

Only took a handful of posts before we start getting jpeg breakdowns of the PS4 and XB1 architectures. Never change.

Texture filtering took a hit.

You determined that from a blurry "1080p" Youtube video?

They're already aware of that a console in 2014 that can't do 1080p is a joke and they're doing their best in order to achieve it.

So does this mean all the consoles are a joke? Or that they all aren't a joke?

Every console out now is capable of a 1080p game. They're also all capable of not running upcoming games @1080p at a respectable framerate without sacrifices.

Microsoft really needs this perceptual difference to change. Not being able to hit 1080p without Microsoft engineers coming over and freeing up extra space in order for it to work is a huge commitment on their part. Simply, they can't afford another heavy hitter being sub-1080p. They're already aware of that a console in 2014 that can't do 1080p is a joke and they're doing their best in order to achieve it. Including dropping Kinect.

Did I hear that right, confirming full parity? No thanks, Bungie.

1080p != full parity. There are a LOT of ways other than resolution to hit a certain framerate. It's possible certain effects are toned down, for instance the PS3 version clearly has worse aliasing (not that the PS4 version is perfect), dreadfully low res shadows, no chromatic aberration (this is almost a feature), major pop-in.

Not saying the Xbox One version has any of these differences, but we probably wont' know what/if the differences are until there's a post-release Digital Foundry analysis. Also, even if they go full graphics parity, that means the PS4 version should have less trouble keeping up with the framerate. The game looks great on PS4 for a cross-gen game, I see no reason to grab the Parity pitchforks just yet.
