okay plan is to hit rank 40 tonight. 7 frontline matches should be plenty if I win 3, and I don't need marks since I already got my (useless) axe.

Now just have to hope all the bads who hopped on the maelstrom train last week got bored and went back to whatever crappy factions they came from. Queue times were getting ridiculous.

If they make pvp gear useful in frontlines I'd be open to gearing a class that would actually make a difference in there. Specifically WHM...although I guess I'd need swiftcast too. Believe it or not I was a PVP healer in WoW for a million years so running around spamming HoTs is something I'm good at.

Que's a next to instant on Flames, alot of people really do join the Maelstrom train

Unless you've been stocking up on Alexandrite and Materia, getting your Novus is going to take awhile. <_<;;

Oh I know it's gonna take awhile but I've been stocking up materia as I go so I should be alright for a bit. Pretty much the reason I didn't rush my animus because I know the novus is gonna take me a forever to complete. Luckily my current retainer brings me materia everyday which is awesome although a lot of the time she brings savage might II.

Finished all my books and just got my first scroll. Do all scrolls have the attribute listings (accuracy, crit hit rate, skill speed, etc.)?

In any case, since I'm a Monk, how should I split my attributes between the following: accuracy, crit hit rate, skill speed, determination, parry?

I got some heaven's eye and savage aim/might materia, mostly Type I

Great, another shitty article about hunts.

I think they are fine. Camping spawns is pretty standard fare in mmos and some of their answers are plain stupid, once a week kills? Lol. Ya right.

EDIT. this is a good way for people who don't have statics to get high level gear. Many players, like me, don't have infinite amounts of time to devote to a game and I really appreciate being able to come back to the game (just resubbed) And have the chance to catch up so I can attempt the new endgame stuff too.

Hunts are literally the cancer killing this game.

At the end of the day there comes a realization that Square Enix is fully aware that hunts are bad and broken. They just don't care. They simply want as many people as possible to keep at the game day after day and pay for it for as long as it takes. And why should they care? I bet when they see clearing percentages on endgame content, even though the game is tutorialized into the ground and easy as hell to pick up, I bet when they see that they just feel like quitting trying forever. Because this way everyone is happy! Accounting department is happy because people stay subscribed because the grind takes forever. Casuals are happy because all you have to do to gear up is to run around and faceroll things. Hardcore people are happy because they just got a new reason not to kill themselves. And it doesn't matter that hunts ushered population out of the instances that still might be important to players who are starting just now or have stated recently. It doesn't matter that for how much importance the new currency has, there's only one way to get it. It doesn't matter that doing hunts simply isn't as fun as braving a difficult battle with other people. Let's just put in more grind with already existing systems and think about repercussions later because game design is so dirt simple that way.

Forcing people into statics is another problem altogether though.

I might note that you can't really camp spawn points during the Hunt. Oh, sure, often X or Y Mark will spawn in X or Y location, but they could also spawn on the complete opposite end of the map.

The developers have actually done a pretty good job at making the behavior of these NMs hard to predict. So unless you are using 3rd party software to cheat, all you can really do is estimate when a NM should be spawning and manually scour the map.

Even that only kinda works. NMs can run quite late.

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
And have the chance to catch up so I can attempt the new endgame stuff too.

This is a nice idea until you realize no one's doing end-game content anymore...

Because they're too busy grinding Hunts.

(See how that works?)

Up to level 11 on my GLD.

When am I going to have to be relied on to actually tank and have people yelling at me for not knowing what I'm doing? I'm scared.

Maybe I should try a DPS class first, haha.

Managed to down T6/7 in a single night and even got my first healer drop, yay. I checked a T8 guide, dang, it looks far more complex than T7 (which I found pretty easy to grasp)

Or maybe because they are locked out of that content. :p

Don't worry, T8 seems very difficult to tackle in the beginning but once you get the order down and everyone knows their job, I find it easier than T7. T7 has that bit of randomness to it (Who is gonna get targeted by voice and shriek) that T8 really doesn't. It's easier have a stable run in T8.

My personal problems with Hunts.

Problems with Hunts:
Die too quickly
People are now expected to hold them for a certain amount of time but people will pull early leading to server drama and the blame game
People blame GAF even when it's not a GAF member pulling early
People jokingly blame GAF in /sh leading to people taking it seriously and affecting public opinion leading to insults and harassment in /tell /shout and /say
Hunts have become a better way to get all types of seals and other end game loot (alexandrite, sands and oils) leading people to shun other options
Daily hunts are a joke. There is no point in doing them
Hunts are a cool idea implemented terribly

How to fix hunts:
I dunno
Maybe a weekly allied seal cap?
Maybe remove some of the better items?
Maybe a system where you get full credit if you mark a hunt mob with a special skill?
Maybe change it completely so it is more like an actual hunt where you search an area for tracks and what not that point you in a direction until you find its nest or whatever and you pop it like a map? You find the first track, give a shout or LS message and everyone joins and picks up the trail together giving people more time to arrive for the fight?
Start shouting random FCs in shout after every pull to share out the hunt hate so people stop blaming GAF and harassing us?

Blood-splattered Log cap would be way better than seal cap. Seals got multiple great uses especially for new players so just put a cap the item that progresses you the most I suppose.

After you collect all the hunt rewards you are able to attempt the higher challenges. There's nowhere to go but up. It's a nice way To able to have a chance at tackling the new end content.

can't switch gc's again until 15 days have passed so we're stuck. I did have a match earlier with kami neko lol

15? I thought it was 30 days.

As for the hunt stuff...

I talked about it recently in a video, but we have only 10-ish minutes so I felt like I couldn't say enough.

My issue with hunts is that it's taking away from the other content at the moment. I'm going to assume over time it will balance out. I'm already seeing a few more PFs than normal for other content, but it's still slim pickings with a majority of the PF groups seeking people for hunts.

It's also insane how easy it is to cap on Soldiery. They need to remove soldiery as a reward, or make it minimal like at max 5 soldiery for S, 3 for A, and 1 for B. This will encourage people to run DR EX, DR HL, and DR Trials again to get seals, and run the higher level dungeons more in general. The GC seal price for Mark Logs needs to be increased by a lot, while GC gear needs to come down in price. In fact, maybe logs shouldn't be available to buy at all, but remain random drops in a similar fashion to ATMA/Alexandrite from FATEs.

I don't think they need to touch the myth amount. Myth helps speed up gearing to i90 which hasn't been the highest tier for awhile now + you can get i90 gear in FC still, so it's not that bad to get so much since they've become less valuable. They're real worth to somebody like me is in getting maps for alexandrites towards Novus, which speeds up what has been an annoying grind. Also, GC seals being used for Alexandrite is awesome, but I wonder if maybe they should have just make Alexandrites drop randomly like mark logs, or perhaps you get one a week for killing your elite bill.

As for how this affects other content...while Ramuh EX rings are nice, and so is an i100 weapon, the ease and speed at which people can now get an unweathered weapon + unweathered ring + weathered ring courtesy of sands/oils purchased through GC seals/logs makes Ramuh EX less important than Levi EX was in 2.2. This in turn also makes CT2 less appealing to some if you're just going for that Oil drop. However, CT2 is still more relevant because it's a free i100 piece a week that doesn't cost precious soldiery and might be better than the soldiery piece. However, if you're getting Sands more rapidly thanks to hunts, unweathered gear is going to be more appealing than CT2 stuff (outside some exceptions).

Of course, my secret hope is that by so many people getting so highly geared quicker now, more people try to do SCoB. They might not be good at it, but anything to get more people into the hardest content is a good thing. Gives more options for PUGs, though I concede SCoB is more demanding than FC, so just having all i110 gear (sans ring) doesn't mean jack if you can't handle mechanics. You never know, that one player who thought they were under-leveled but is actually good might now have the courage to try out SCoB. Most of our statics have changed or will change over time, so increasing the population for potential replacements is good for everyone.

However, I suspect perhaps some of the reason we haven't had sweeping Hunt reforms is because SE is likely seeing a surge of player activity (more hours logged on, more accounts active in general) due to the hunts, and they want to make sure any changes they do won't completely turn people off so that activity drops significantly. Plus, a lot of the initial knee jerk reactions should be ignored. It's been two weeks now, I think people are finally starting to have more rational thoughts about Hunts and what might need to change.

Something tells me that the code SE has in place would make it impossible to stop the log books from dropping once you acquire them unless they turned it into a lot item. I don't know what it is, but I hope I'm wrong. Literally nothing else works like this that isn't RARE/EX that I can think of.

Yeah I agree with logs being capped, but for me who is currently about to finish the animus books and moving to the novus relic, I'll most likely still be hunting as I can trade seals for Alexandrites.

Same. Last 2 books, then run Syrcus Tower after reset day and I've spirit bonded enough to get the materia I wanted. Then just hunt all day to get my Alex.

I don't get why people have an issue with myth and soldiery dropping from hunts.

Personally, the less I have to do instanced content, the better. If you don't like Hunts, Brayflox and DL are not going anywhere.

Apparently the DVD queues are worse since hunts rolled in. Not seen it myself, still getting the usual 15 minutes, but it is apparently affecting some people.

True, but the amount of people running it is noticeably less than before. Obviously you can get in on hunts and get soldiery that way now as you said, but that gets into the subject of the haves and have nots in the Hunt system. Clearly those in larger guilds and those with multiple Hunt LS access are reaping the hunt rewards the most, while those who can't are having a bad time.

Edit.
@miked

I agree that as people gear up and are able to tackle end game content/get invites once their ilvl is high enough, they will move towards it. It's just a matter of time. Gearing up the general population on a server can take time, it can be messy, and things can get fucked up, but it's all part of those mmo growing pains imo.

What does everyone hunt with?

I pretty much exclusively run WAR or WHM.
Medicas everywhere or INFURIATE CYCLONE, OVERPOWER, OVERPOWER, OVERPOWER (flash if I lose the target) to victory.

Yea, cap the sands at one per week per player and that could be good, makes it comparable to what one would get for decent coil progress but for yourself.

It's far too late to worry about that this tier though, some folks have already got 5 or more sands so why bother? Just prepare for whatever sand equivalent is in the next tier, I guess.

Also maybe make the mobs not drop soldiery, or not near as much, so daily dungeons are still better for that. Then people would need to go into harder content to get soldiery to get the gear that uses sands, too.

I'd actually prefer them to drop GC seals, Potash n stuff is worth more than Tome mats now. Also would work out for them hopefully removing so many of them from dungeons, makes the loot poor crap for those that want the gear. Maybe put them in the chests that have potions n stuff in them now?

Just let me beat EX Ramuh so I don't have to be one of those folks who are rushing to get EX Mog done because they waited until 2.3 dropped and now they have to beat it to access EX Ramuh.

Beat Mog like once in ARR for EX and never bothered again.
I can't stand Mog after running him for ages in 1.0, fuck that fight.

So, I was wondering: what kind of stuff can we win in the new dungeons (2.2 and 2.3 dungeons)? I want to know if I could just sell my Darklight sets to my Great company without losing anything (plus, now the 90ilvl stuff is easily acquired), since I need some mats in order to unlock the new crafting recipes (I'm 50 everywhere, I need a lot of mats).

What should I keep? I know I should keep the Primal weapons if I decide to do some desynthesis, but that's all I know.

i80 green gear drops from the 3 new 2.3 dungeons
darklight and green i70s dropped from 2.2 dungeons

you should be fine selling off your darklight sets unless you want to keep them for vanity

looking back i probably should have just sold off only the darklight belts and kept the rest for vanity @_@

Speaking of which, I'll will need to start focusing on getting more tiers III and IV Materia in preparation for my Novus Relic.

Should I be wearing all the spiritbonding accessories help with the spiritbonding rate?

Also, I'm assuming the ilvl 70 gears are good for lvl 4 materias correct?

I just resubbed after a long break and have been using these as "guides" on what to do/general end game (50+) progression.

http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/end-game.php

It's updated as of patch 2.3 and it's been a great help for me outlining what I want to accomplish and in which order.

EDIT.
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/21x998/so_you_just_hit_level_50_in_patch_22/

This too, just another check list to look thru.

They need to figure out how to make the battles with large groups of people outside of alliances not just seem like a mishmash of lights and sounds. Its the one reason why I dont like large HP FATE enemies like Odin and Behemoth.

  • You cant see your own attacks
  • You cant see the enemy in detail
  • So many sound effects = sounds cutting out here and there
  • You cant see the animations of the enemy

Kinda kills the point of it, especially with how fast paced XIV battles are compared to say...HNM fights in XI.

And no, turning down animations isnt the answer.

I'll join up with you and we can maybe figure out things together, if you want.

Follow the story, and make sure to start guildhests asap. They'll teach you game mechanics too.

The real game starts at 50.

This makes me sad.

A long time ago I proposed a solution to open-world content (namely, FATEs) to make it more restrictive, as in put a player cap on it (how that cap is applied could vary greatly). I realize that means people getting locked out even if you set it somewhere like 40, but then you left with a game with the potential for meaningful, fun encounters outside of instances where you can design methods to mitigate the frustration of that. I think the Warhammer/GW2/FATEs design is inherently flawed for reasons made explicitly clear in A Realm Reborn's past and present.

There's plenty of decent band-aids you could apply though. I've only watched hunts from afar in all its "glory", but I don't suppose they spawn all the value targets in all zones at once do they? That would be one way to dissipate crowds.

Soooo my video card died with smoke and brimstone so my computer is out of commission atm.

Its being sent into a repair service since its a laptop and i can't replace the video card myself. So if someone can tell my coil group about it, I'd be appreciative! I'll probably get it back in 2 weeks so they should find a replacement tank if they are doing coil this week.

Ultros. I made a shout macro I've been going to various zones and housing wards that I've been carefully spamming, with #fuckMaelstrom, but hopefully no one takes it/me too seriously. I just wanna play, and unfortunately most of GAF has it's head up Merlywb's butt is in Maelstrom or Twin Adders.
