Media Create Sales: Week 29, 2014 (Jul 14 - Jul 20)

That's not it, what helped was the anime airing at the time.

the Vita game launched while the anime TV series was airing, which would have helped the profile of the property enormously among otaku

Senran Kagura: Skirting Shadows (3DS) September 22, 2011
Senran Kagura Burst (3DS) August 30, 2012
Anime television series aired January 6, 2013 – March 24, 2013
Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus (Vita) February 28, 2013

it was also vita price cut week so it got doubly helped

Uhh, no that's not possible (without knowing digital sales).

http://www.siliconera.com/2014/04/08/persona-4-golden-shipments-japan-cross-350000/

This game probably has a lot of digital sales.

It sold 3k and has 96k to go to kit 400k. Not sure how you got that number.

P5 portable is a given though, just because that's where a large chunk - if not the majority - of the audience will be.

The majority of the audience are on PS3.

those smash predictions are accurate to me.
wii ytd could be higher at the end compared to the last one, with smash and a possible mk bundtke. next year they need a smash bundle and a price cut.
no sense in a 15 launch for 4ds. t
they can launcpg the 2ds or a nfc revision, there could be dq11, there could be poke x, and so on. is dectkining but the ytd will still be strong, in the actual market. plus- sw is going very well
for kagurb, ltd numbers are different..

Yep, now it makes a lot more sense. The price cut for the Vita only further helped the game.

Why SK should go to Vita?

SK main games started on 3DS and they sold quite well.

What I think they should do is release SK games on both platforms instead of making like 4 or 5 different games for each one.

As others have mentioned, the core audience for Vita in Japan seem to be otaku, and Senran Kagura seems to be a franchise aimed squarely at otaku.

you clearly mean software only, Hardware is on its way out.

1 million less compared to last year. the trajectory is pretty clear.

Nintendo should announce the successor to 3DS at TGS, it's time already.

Silly statement sphinx. When you've sold 15m units of hardware (more than the GBA in Japan already) and your hardware is still selling much better than any of the competition, why do you need new hardware? This is the point in any cycle where you start making far more money on software compared to hardware anyways. The 3DS will easily sell 3m units this year (something that the PS3 never hit and the Wii only hit one year), so the hardware is selling ok and software is selling quite well. Like others have said QoL comes first.

Also why aren't there preorders for Pokemon ORAS yet on comgnet? Or is just that we're not posting them yet? The preorders seem great for Smash 3DS & MH4U.

it's better not to have a dead period. if there's some overlap in case a system needs time taking off, then it's helpful to have that extra stream of revenue instead of hoping something is an immediate and profitable success (although you want that anyway).

right now the 3ds is heading for a pretty long dead period in 2015- regularly selling below 20k and probably towards 10k. a successor in late 2015 would be a good idea, even if it isn't ideal.

This seems to be a creator initiative as just by the look of it SK2 has a much higher budget than any other game in the franchise, including Versus. He seems to be really interested in exploring glassesless 3D Breasts.

I think it'll do pretty well. Better on Vita? Possibly. Wouldn't be the same game though.

Although when was the last time a Nintendo console/handheld didn't have a dead period though? The GBA because it overlapped with the DS? I do think a new hardware revision would be nice, but I feel they aren't even close to ready to release a 3DS successor any time soon with so many other things going on. They really need the 3DS's revenue stream at this point, rather than trying to launch a new handheld with litte/no software while the Wii U is struggling. Maybe Nintendo could get some interesting third party games lined up for next year in JP. I'm guessing Bravely Second at least releases then, and perhaps DQ11.

Is this new btw: (One Piece: Super Grand Battle releasing on 3DS in 2014) -> http://www.gonintendo.com/s/233692-one-piece-super-grand-battle-coming-to-3ds

I just think nintendo is better off starting the hype engines for their next handheld sooner rather than later, while their current handheld is alive and notorious.

with "announce" I meant just stating officially they are cooking something and that it's "going well", even if releases in 2016,

the most important thing I'd do if I were nintendo is secure (NO MATTER FUCKING WHAT) Youkai Watch 3 as a launch game for their new hardware, (if it's a 2015 release that is)

Even if YW3 sells half YW2 numbers, that's great for a handheld in the smartphone era and it's definitely a system seller.

Probably the biggest wrinkle with this plan is if Nintendo plans on creating some handheld/console hybrid which would not only disrupt their handheld but also their console (Which is younger, even if it's clearly a failure).

Even then I might do it. Not saying you're wrong, just adding in that extra wrinkle (which has apparently been hinted at).

I disagree, the responisbility is on Sony because it´s actually their own system. They completley neglected the Japanese market and these are the results. The common excuse is that the Western market is more important, it is, but they completely botched a relevant market so far that could have lead to a healthy market of potential 10m-20m customers, first with PSV and now also PS4. With some smarter decisions and investments it could have been a less embarrassing situation in Japant.
I disagree. Of course they could have done better.
But the issue with SCE Japan Studio is -> Sony has "rebooted" the studio 1 1/2 years ago. So the big titles take time (2015).
And still: It's just SCE Japan Studio (and Polyphony "Gran Turismo only" Digital).
Sony doesn't own a lot of japanese studios.

But "botched a relevant market so far that could have lead to a healthy market of potential 10m-20m customers" ?? Sorry, but no. These times are gone.
Home consoles are currently dead in japan. Even a very strong PS4 launch with more PS4 exclusives (I'm not talking about big hitters like FF) wouldn't have changed the market.
Japan is mobile phone / handheld country.

Don´t know why you want to give them the easy pass when it comes to supporting their own system. "They can´t", seems like a really odd excuse considering we´re talking about a big company with 3 console generations and a handheld generation of experience.

Both have a big chance of happening. It´s hard to predict how the 3DS version will affect the WiiU version but the latter also has a good chance of hitting 500k-1200k when all is said and done if NSMBU and Mario Kart 8 are any indication and if the 3DS version doesn´t impact its sales potential too much.

It's the reality ps1,ps2 and ps4 are all leader of their generation becuase they had the best 3rd party support.

No because thats where the Persona fanbase expected the next mainline game to be released on.
I really doubt all that many people bought a PS3 in anticipation to play SMT games when nothing was announced.

Otaku buy the 3DS too lol. That being said, I don't know what to make out of SK2 yet.

cracking up at the bickering over boob game system bragging rights on both sides, what a perfect summation of the state of the industry right now

What´s the point? This will only lead to less sales of their current hardware nothing more. Sales are still good, Youkai Watch gave the system a boost and the upcoming 2 million sellers will do the same, in fact its year to date sales are already 2/3 of PSVs lifetime sales.

Their goal is to be profitable killing off their biggest money maker too early would be a really silly move. They can and will take advantage of the big userbase with new software releases and they still have the option to launch a revision (one that actually is an upgrade) next year to boost hardware sales and in the same time continue taking advantage of possibly decent profit margins of their hardware.

The biggest reason why an early launch is pretty much useless is that Nintendos development resources are focused on WiiU for at least the next two years, QOL and 3DS projects also demand resources. There simply wont be enough to support a new major system launch in the immediate future.

Declaring the console market to "be dead" seems to be the most convinient excuse for actual incompetence. The software situation is pathetic and the droughts just too big. a constant stream of appealing software releases would do wonders but thats not the case, mainly because there simply are more successful systems and also because Sony themselves don´t deliver the needed goods. And its quite sad that a system that basically is backed by just one single publisher is doing a better job in this regard right now.

It's the reality ps1,ps2 and ps4 are all leader of their generation becuase they had the best 3rd party support.

PS4 is tracking behind PS3 and one of the worst selling systems righr now. The current software release schedule is very barren and it really doesn´t help that there aren´t even 1st party titles to appeal this specific market.

First party didn't save Gamecube and won't save Wii u because 3rd party support is awful so how Sony first party support will make Ps4 sale better?
Look at 3rd party support in West and the 3rd party support in Japan you will know why PS4 is doing well in west but not in Japan.
Ps4 launched in West with the biggest IP Fifa,Assasin Creed and Call of duty the equivalent of those games in Japan are Final fantasy,Dragon quest and Monster Hunter.

What kind of mindset is this? So they shouldn´t even try to make the consoles lineup look less barren? It´s not a case of 1st party only vs 3rd party only. The former obviously leads to limited quantity. It´s a matter of having a software library with as many appealing games as possible. Because in the end of the day people don´t care who publishes the game as long as it´s appealing.

I don't say Sony should not support their console with first party games i just said first party support won't save it

Well I think that's related to the problem. You can get lots of /free/ fitness, brain training, and simple control sports minigames on your phone, so it's a hard sell.

Similarly, Mario Golf has had a harder time worldwide, and I feel the amount of golf games you can get on your phone ranging from free to $5 has a notable impact on that when trying to sell a retail game instead.

Tiger Woods has similarly seen its sales go way down since the more casual audience for that title doesn't exist anymore and it's mostly the really core sim fans.

It's funny, but I've always thought that the many business shenanigans that many love to hate, such as DLCs and microtransactions, will fit so well with many of Nintendo's IPs that are "dead" from the Wii/DS days. Pitiful that they don't have a worthwhile account system & online infrastructure. A cheap (or perhaps free) Wii Sports from the very beginning with a season pass for DLCs would have been better idea than a retail version.

Isn't that exactly what they did? Wii sports club was a low cost digital title where you could buy different sports I believe (don't have the console but that's my understanding of it). The retail version simply includes them all in a bundle.

Yo-kai Watch 2 sales are incredible. Will reach 2 million easily. And the first Yo-Kai watch are still in top 5.
Good to see Mario Kart 8 sales, "stable" or "stuck" in the 8k mark, I hope that it keep on like that for a while. Wii U sales are still in the same level, which it is good, considering
that the next big thing for the console will be released next month.

Did they? Ooops. My bad. looool
I didn't bother nor keep up with it so I wouldn't know. Thanks for correcting me. But I still a think a retail version was pointless.

What big game s are left for the Vita for the rest of the year?
I thought Ore would sell over a 100k,
around 120k or so .

Youkai Watch is a beast .

Oy vey, I was expecting a lot better than that for Oreshika.

It's funny reading this when people had completely different predictions only a few weeks back for prediction league, mostly in the range of 30-70k for 11 days. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=844085&page=11

The game did well, but we'll have to see if the hate for Nueko influences the legs of the game. :p I imagine its affecting players of the original and not so much people new to the series.

As for big upcoming titles for 2014... Phantasy Star Nova, Toukiden Kiwami, Neptunia U, Minecraft, School Idol Paradise, Persona Dancing all Night, and Corpse Party off the top of my head.

The thirst is real.

Really looking forward to the Famitsu download estimates, although I'm not sure if they are in this week's magazine.
