Media Create Sales: Week 29, 2014 (Jul 14 - Jul 20)

Really wonder if Minecraft could be huge in Japan too. US version of Minecraft has already been in top 20 of amazon.jp since its launch...

Demon Gaze did fine though. 200k shipped. I know, shipped, but compared to Atlus' Persona brand, Experience Inc. games is nothing even when all they create is cartography games.

We may have different definitions for cartography when you don't make the map in DG :p

Blu-ray/DVD sales of the first release:

1. LoveLive!:108,363
2. Attack on Titan: 83,683
3. Sword Art Online: 45,372

LTD sales of the first game:

PSV LoveLive!: ????
3DS Attack on Titan: 290,489
PSP Sword Art Online: 227,000

Perfect logical deduction tells us LoveLive! for the Vita will sell well in excess of 300k units...

The CDs almost frequently top the music charts here, the BDs pretty much consistently sell more than all the other charted releases combined, and the merch is huge. The concerts also sell out lightning fast.

This is a much bigger property than people realize IMO. It's a gigantic multimedia franchise.

I agree that he is most likely only talking about personal preference, but i was wondering if he thought that making those game for another platform would hinder sales potential, and then its not just an arguement about what he personally likes. Nirolak's post was about sales, and this is a sales thread, so its not that obvious that hes only talking about his preference, in my opinion. Otherwise i wouldnt have asked i then first place =)

Not entirely personal preference, I think people will take note of the fact that one system is ideally set up for this kind of game while the other has to use some awful compromise (probably swiping the map up and down, completely slowing down the experience) and purchase it accordingly, likely making a Vita version unnecessary and cumbersome. All of the compromises you'd need to make it work you're better off just not bothering.

Blu-ray/DVD sales of the first release:

1. LoveLive!:108,363
2. Attack on Titan: 83,683
3. Sword Art Online: 45,372

LTD sales of the first game:

PSV LoveLive!: ????
3DS Attack on Titan: 290,489
PSP Sword Art Online: 227,000

Perfect logical deduction tells us LoveLive! for the Vita will sell well in excess of 300k units...
I think it's worth mentioning Madoka too:
Madoka DVD+BD Vol1: 80,089
PSP Madoka: 96.453

Also, LL has a popular mobile rhythm game already, not sure how that could influence here.

Sony has published Minecraft everywhere but Japan, I wonder if Nintendo has an exclusivity deal.

And from what I have read, the 3DS can't run Minecraft very well: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/07/developer_hints_at_how_minecraft_could_shape_up_on_3ds

Anyway, the longer they wait the less it will sell.

Why would Nintendo have an exclusivity deal on a game that hasn't been announced for any of their hardware and is already available on other machines in Japan? Minecraft for PS3 has been available on the Japanese PlayStation Store for a month now. The lack of a retail release is probably due to SCEJ being stupid, some weird leftover timed-exclusivity agreement with Microsoft or an attempt to launch the PS3/PSV/PS4 versions simultaneously.

lol at nintendo having an exclusivity deal for a game not even announced for its platforms. like the poster above said Sony are probably looking into a cross buy release or a special vita edition or ps4 edition to push those consoles for the holidays.

[3DS] Dragon Ball Heroes 2 (25 days) - 116.000
[PS3+360] Ultra Street Fighter 4 (25 days) - 97.000
[3DS] Senran Kagura 2 (25 days) - 72.000

[PS3+360] Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (4 days) - 163.000
[PSV] LoveLive! School Idol Paradise Vol. 1 / 2 / 3 (4 days) - 66.000

Hopefully I remember to change a few of these closer to the deadline since from Hyrule Warriors down I feel it's too soon to tell how they are going to perform.

Toukiden Kiwami in particular will be interesting since it's out performing the original by a good bit on COMG (Vita version btw) but it still has over a month until release.

Buying the first volume of Love Live gave you the chance to get a ticket for a concert and there were people buying multiples to get in, so expect that to drop off quite a bit with volume 2.

Love Live and the music is obviously popular, but I'm not sure if it will translate to game sales that high.

This may seem an odd thing to say in a MC/Famitsu thread, but why does anyone think that in this day and age, Sony and Microsoft really give a rat's ass about the Japanese console market in the grand scheme.

(Nintendo is seeing a disproportionate amount of their low sales coming from this market so presumably it's still of importance to them)

Does anybody in this thread really think if I have $100M to spend on producing games for a console it's more worthwhile to create games specifically for one market with specific culture, language and tastes that differ from the rest of the global market rather than producing SKUs that are aimed at the collective rest of the console industry?

Opportunity cost.
Saying Sony dropped the ball on the Japanese market presumes that this isn't according to keikaku - not the selling like shit in Japan part, but the focus on the much more lucrative Western console market at the expense of devoting resources specifically to the Japanese market.

I've thought like that for a while. Making big console games for the Japanese market makes zero sense. Niche games that can be profitable at 100K sold, sure, great. But nothing more than that.

In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if SE used non-Japanese studios and talent for much of FFXV in order to make it more appealing to the rest of the world.

Wii sports club is hilarious.
Yeah, it's always hilarious when games don't sell well.

None. But if a game is on both 3DS and Vita, there is a stronger incentive to get the Vita game due to the better graphics. That's what happened with Conception 2.
Years after the 4DS is on sale and Sony have left the handheld market people will remember the day that one niche RPG sold a couple of thousand more.

And Super One Piece Grand Battle X to be announced in Monday's Weekly Shonen Jump (for 3DS)

:(

Even though lots of people are assuming MGSV is releasing in early 2015, I just can't shake the feeling it will be coming late 2015 or maybe even early 2016.

Besides Platinum and maybe From Software I just don't have any confidence in Japanese developers delivering next big gen projects in a decent amount of time (or actually do any at all).

Hope I'm wrong of course and SE surprises everyone at E3 with release dates for its three next gen titles and other developers too.

No matter how good the Vita released are, both Freedom Wars and Oreshika didn't increase units by a big margin.

I don't think they can really be expected to. There have been enough of quirky Japanese RPGs and multiplayer action titles released on the Vita to attract the core group of gamers interested specifically in those genres in Japan. At this point nothing is really going to drive Vita growth dramatically unless there's something which is expected but very successful outside that box which would make a lot of people who weren't previously interested in owning the system buy into it.

Anyway, the longer they wait the less it will sell.

lmao

SCEJ should totally of published a physical SKU. Maybe they will do one when the PS4 SKU comes out. I don't think it will be a million seller at all though.

But it looks so finished. 2015 fall at the latest right?

No surprise, Freedom Wars is just one other clone targetting the same niche they have been targetting for years now again and again it´s basically a slightly different God Eater from the same developers. While Oreshika has been weak on PS1 and PSP, a mediocre sequel of such an unprolific series wouldn´t make a big difference anyway and it didn´t. They need to put out the big guns like Gran Tourismo instead, but they seem to have the "acknowledged" excuse that they don´t need to invest in Japan/handhelds.

So, like Minecraft bundle? But alas, there has been no word. It would probably shift units all over which sounds great on paper if western Sony wasn't so laser focused on marginalizing the system. Also why isn't there a Patapon HD collection? Not saying that will shift a lot of units, just that I want it.

I'm part of that couple thousand more, and totally do not regret. Really fun game.

And cool for One Piece. Are the leaks (where we learned about the game in the first place) from monday's issue?

how much does the KH games sell in japan? I wonder with these numbers if KHIII being ported to the wii u is being considered.

I believe they mentionned DX11, and the Wii U doesn't support that. Porting would be way too much of an effort for a console where pretty much all 3rd-party releases drown the second they're released. So no, there's probably never going to be a Wii U port of KH3... :(
