Euro Truck Sim 2 |OT| - it's like Elite, but in a big rig and in Europe

Wow, some good updates in that patch. Lots of little UI and radio improvements. The three new cities will break my TSM map mod again, but with all of those great changes I think I'll go back to my mod-less save from a few months ago. The ability to change my home garage is something I've wanted for like a year now, really glad to see that there.

If you're ever going to haul a trailer, sure. I don't think a majority of people are going to (they'd probably just get a Uhaul single-cab for moving), so there's auto-park.

In real-life and in game, for me reversing a trailer is basically:

"Damn it..." *forward, straighten out.* "Okay..." *backwards slowly, trailer starts to jack-knife* "Damn it..." *repeat*

Probably my GOTY, best 10 bucks I've ever spent.

Yeah, it's one of my favorite games that I bought last year. It updates a lot too, and with decent improvements as well. I'm pretty sure that most of the updates are simply improvements from American Truck Simulator (which they are developing now) that are simply being rolled into ETS2 as they make them. Which is more than fine by me, it's actually a pretty good way to do it IMHO.

Every time I boot this game up I smile.

The main feature I wanted was better control over cruise control and it appears that this patch adds it. With all the improvements to the Euro Truck Sim, I can't wait for the American Truck Sim.

I'm no expert but... probably none? The physics got much better in recent patches, and Going East & the last update already extend the map quite a bit. More importantly, I wouldn't try to add much more complexity to the game if you are using an Oculus Rift... it is a beta implementation after all.

Learning to reverse parking a trailer is good life skills in real life and so satisfying ingame to pull off in one go. Also doing it yourself nets you extra XP. That adds up ya know.

It has to be experienced how satisfying it can be especially when you've tried for ages to get it right. Making small adjustments and taking it slowly is the key. I had a eureka moment many years ago in FS2004 where I made small changes and planned ahead instead of just reacting to everything.

I can't remember which, but I think one of the older SCS truck simulators had a trailer with a trailer (twin trailer). If I remember correctly it was easier than it seemed to reverse them (dual negative is positive :D ), but it sounds like chaos :p

Edit: Just bought a truck and realised this is where the real game starts with the hiring etc. Feel a bit burned out already with all the long distance driving.

Edit 2: Closest I've got to drive in the opposite direction on the freeway (at night). Also had an accidental full frontal with another truck at high speed and I just jumped.

So I got the Gold edition and everything's going good so far. Gonna try the multiplayer mod.

This was interesting:

I'm still driving kind of GTA style... Not much punishes in the game imo.

I got a little bonus from work and I've decided to treat myself to some new toys. I've wanted a wheel for over a decade so I'm finally going to just get myself one, and I think I'm pretty set on getting a Logitech G27 from Amazon. Does anyone have any other recommendations, or is this pretty much the best I can get for the PC? I'm also buying myself a TrackIR which I've wanted for FSX for like a decade now too. Both the wheel and the tracking should be awesome with ETS2.

I'd probably go with an Oculus Rift if you want some head tracking device. I own a TrackIR5 and while it's fun, I think the OR is in line to replace it.

The Logitech G27 is by far the best of the consumer grade wheels with the most support. Good choice.

At the moment, a TrackIR is by far a far better purchase than a Rift due to the fact that it is still a beta product and support for it is still early at best.

If you still have some left over, why not go for an LG Ultra Wide 21:9 monitor too? This thread is very informational. I'm planning on dropping some for one myself.

I was too late with a delivery (accidentally slept two times in a row).

Hm looks a bit too dark in the shot because I can see the road lines.

40 lvls and 20 employees later: I'm looking forward to new countries, cities and truck models. Multiplayer is not that good and just being alpha.

I haven't tried any mods yet but they seem to add pretty much all of what I'd like to see more of added to the game.

Edit: Omg just found out about page u/d button changes radio channel. Phew!

There is currently a sale on some DLC paint packs for ETS2 on Steam. Three of them are on sale for a whopping 91% off at $0.09 each!!!

SCS did it in honor of the upcoming referendum for Scottish Independence. Pretty awesome of them honestly.

Neat, radio volume keybinds too!

I have a billion games in my backlog and yet tomorrow I'll probably start a new ETS2 profile. VR only!

Yeah, most people write it off because it sounds too simy, or it sounds boring, or it sounds shallow. But once you get playing the game really takes hold of you. It's a good looking game too, that doesn't hurt. I personally find it both fun and relaxing, and it's a great way to listen to new albums or podcasts while I'm playing games. I played it for 80 hours before I decided to buy a G27 wheel and a TrackIR5 pretty much just for this game (they get used with lots of my other games though too). The wheel has turned the game into an entirely new experience, I mean I thought it played well with my Xbox pad but now that I've upgraded to a wheel there is no going back.

I have gotten a bit lazy with it lately though. When I started my trucking empire I micro-managed all of my drivers levelups to first get them all of their ALD licenses and long distance & priority skills, but now that I have a few dozen drivers and two dozen garages I've grown tired of micro managing them so I just set their progression to balanced and leave it up to them to choose. Money isn't an issue in the game for me anymore, I buy new trucks and trick them out just for fun, lol.

Their next game American Truck Simulator will probably be an instant buy for me after Euro Truck Simulator 2. It's literally one of my favorite games of the past few years.

I haven't even got to that depth yet, I've just been taking random jobs saving up for my first truck. But I'm really surprised at the depth when I play with my wheel. I'm surprised they modeled so much endless highway systems lol

Any good internet radio stations you recommend for the game? I'm looking around now but I haven't settled on anything great yet. Good classical music stations, or stations with real eclectic music or electronica, but just not a station with today's latest hits lol

Country Music. So you can be a proper bogan and enter a rest-stop to kill a hooker. </Top Gear joke>

Though really: I'm pretty sure anything that is "relaxing" and turn your mind off would work.

I go back and forth between a few and try new ones out now and then, but the station I listen to the most is Highway 181 Classic Country. It plays good 80's country songs which just seem to fit in perfectly with trucking the long roads to me. There's a Dublin techno station I like too but that usually leads to me getting speeding fines, damage penalties, and hitting other cars on the road. I'll put on podcasts and NPR sometimes too.

I got sold on the game with the demo but I haven't played for weeks now (waiting for expansion).

I picked a bunch of random euro radio stations, mainly 80s for fun. I still only use the mouse for steering, doubt I'll get a wheel.

I can see how that would fit this game, but I hate country too much to do that haha.

Man this game can be atmospheric as fuck sometimes. I just did a run in a heavy rain storm and was all "oh shit how do I turn on my wipers" before I finally figured it out lol

Just in case people don't follow the mod scene, an old school Peterbilt truck was released a few days ago by the best truck modding team in my opinion. It's the same truck used in the movie Duel (Peterbilt 351).

How authentic are many these mods? Because they look incredible. I just haven't taken the time to try and if understand correctly I have to start anew after installation?

Edit: So I got promods 1.7.1 and this sure looks awesome. Any must have mods?

The truck mods done by dmitry68 and Stas556 are very authentic and well made. The modelling and texturing is accurate and they are usually pretty decked out with accessories. Also, the engine sounds are great. A modder by the name of kriechbaum has done many engine noise mods and he lends them his sounds so they can be bundled with the trucks. Here are some of my favorite trucks done by them:

American Trucks:

Kenworth K100 (http://ets2.lt/en/kenworth-k100-update-2/)
Peterbilt 389 (http://ets2.lt/en/peterbilt-389-v-4-0/)
Kenworth W900 Long (http://ets2.lt/en/kenworth-long-edition-v2-0/)
Kenworth W900 aRC (http://ets2.lt/en/kenworth-w900arc-interior-1-4-12/)

Russian Trucks:

Kamaz 4410-6450 (http://ets2.lt/en/kamaz-4410-6450/)
ZIL MMZ 5423 (http://ets2.lt/en/zil-mmz-5423/)

Euro Trucks:

MAN TGA (http://ets2.lt/en/man-tga-5/)
Old Mercedes Trucks (http://ets2.lt/en/mercedes-trucks-pack-v-3-0/)
Vovlo F10 (http://ets2.lt/en/volvo-f10-p-bjarne-andersen/)

As far as starting a new game, that only has to be done if you try to run multiple map mods at once. TSM and promods for example, will not work in tandem with each other. However, TSM and the Russian map mod will work. Mod makers will let you know if a new save is necessary in the description of the mod typically.

Is that a jazzycat military cargo mod? I forgot to mention his stuff. Look up his railway cargo, and trailers and cargo packs for a bunch of cool loads. He also makes AI traffic mods that really enhance the atmosphere/authenticity of the game. I currently have truck traffic, american truck traffic, ai traffic pack, and dlc cargo traffic.

Oh, and look up Doll Vario for some cool oversized trailers.

Silly question, but does anyone know how exploration of the map is calculated? Do I have to make sure every parking lot/inch of road in towns is yellow (meaning I've driven it)?

I'm not certain but... I'd bet it works like that, yup. Honestly, not marking a service station as visited as you drive past it is the single most annoying thing about this game.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think that it counts every little bit of yellow and gray map sections. I'm now driving all around every gray bit of city I come into after I drop my trailer off, and if I pass a rest stop that is grayed out when I'm hauling then I detour off the highway just to flag it yellow. Eventually I see myself just taking a "scenic tour" driving on the company's dollar in order to go gray map hunting.

I usually start hunting out the map before I even start up my company. I'd rather drive with another companies fuel and time to fill out the main routes. I just take jobs on routes I haven't explored before and when I am satisfied with the main ones filled out, I suddenly have enough money to buy 2 trucks and drivers off the bat.

how do i go about making custom truck decals/skins for trucks ive download? designed a logo for my company continental cocaine haha

I don't know, but that would be cool. If anyone finds a tutorial or something post it up.
