They're basically going to show up so the niche developers they're signing can sell to a small local market as well.

It's also a nice gesture toward their Japanese third parties even if they're selling next to nothing.

I can't imagine this launch costs them much.

02./00. [3DS] Yoshi's New Island <ACT> (Nintendo) {2014.07.24} (¥7.180) - 58.285 / NEW

That price can't be right Chris...right?

Anyway, Yoshi's New Island really underperformed. Yoshi's Island DS was a million seller iirc. It isn't a very good game though so, meh.
Didn't Nintendo already start giving away copies of Yoshi's New Island in their buy a 3DS LL and get a free game promotion, even before the retail release of the game? I'm sure that probably cut into sales a bit for the game,

It is included for July and August:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Japan didn't get the free game promotion.

Yes and no. You can choose to download the full-version of a game from the e-shop starting in August(needs to be redeemed by the end of this month), but you only get to keep the full game for two-months, after which point you can purchase it for 40% off the regular price. Yeah...

[PS1] Ore no Shikabane wo Koete Yuke ( SCE ) { 1999-06-17 } - 34,919 / 137,559
[PSP] Ore no Shikabane wo Koete Yuke ( SCE ) { 2011-11-10 } - 88,694 / 134,532

04./02. [PSV] Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines # <RPG> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2014.07.17} (¥6.264) - 17.690 / 111.465 (-81%)

Maybe with digital, Oreshika is already above the first two entries?

You can't fool people twice.

Considering the game seemingly did decent in the US and Europe, maybe western gamers just had finer tastes. Considering how many people neither bought YIDS, now YNI, a lot of people got fooled twice in every region though :(.

Island series is that bad?

No. It's just not doing all too much new and is a safe successor to the original Yoshi's Island (safer then the second game on DS) and has a ver modest presentation (the music in particular is quite unpopular and could definitely be improved on a lot).

EDIT: Seeing you are talking about the series, not just the third game:
The first game is one of the best games ever created, the second game is a (very difficult) level pack with a new twist in form of baby-swapping, where each baby has a distinct power you need to progress in the levels and enormous level lengths. The third game then is a bit more safe level pack type successor that still of course has some new ideas, but no huge game-spanning features as in the second game. The third game also went back to shorter levels.

Are mobile manufacturers going to TGS yet?

Yes. Actually, a few years ago Gamasutra noted that the Wall Street Journal's lengthy article about TGS only talked about two companies, Mobage and GREE.

The majority of last year's announcements were also mobile games. My list under represents that as I didn't put in any mobile only publishers since most were releasing 40+ games a year at that point and there aren't good reporting sites in English.

All right, it's almost August, so I'll start keeping track of new third party game announcements for this year's Road to TGS™.

Hopefully it's less pathetic than last year, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

A road to wh... oh this road!

PS4 is a complete disaster in Japan and so is the WiiU. What is left of the console market there? Aside from the studios like From Software and Kojima Production that can keep up with the west, I think that they are pretty much done. They missed the cross-gen/ports/remaster memo in Japan.

Never played this games, but always thought of them as good titles.

Since positive records have been boring this generations regarding consoles - because they are so low anyway - how much has the PS4 still to fight itself down in order to beat Wii U's weakest week we had so far?

Yep, that was a thing that happened. We also heard about the bright future of the Dragon's Dogma series.

Fucking hell, Capcom! What have done to the Dragon's Dogma IP? Cancelled it???

Yes, to Spring 2015.

They're trying to take their mobile efforts more seriously now since they publicly and repeatedly stated they felt the low quality of their mobile titles was a major problem.

So, they can't even get business shenanigans they decided upon right? This company will belong Tencent or Nexon soon enough.

That's actually pretty scary, is there any major release in sight?

Probably Destiny could be counted as ''major'' release by PS4 standards. Could do solid numbers in Japan for western ip though. Wasn't there some impressions from retail that preorder numbers for Destiny were kinda good ?

Yes it is.

Disappointing sales though.

Well, I dunno what the expectations for CP were but at least the sales are comparable to the previous 2 main PSP games I guess. Hoped for a bit higher tho.

Well at least it's another beast mode week for Vita but for how long? ;-;

Corpse Party did relatively low, despite the love it gets. How well did the previous installments do?

First week:
Corpse Party: Blood Covered - Repeated Fear (5pb.) - 13.566 / NEW
Corpse Party: Book of Shadows # <ADV> (5pb.) {2011.09.01} (¥6.090) - 15.249 / NEW

So, all the new releases

Yoshi's New Island
Tokyo Shinseiroku: Operation Abyss
Corpse Party: Blood Drive
Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late

sold less than their predecessor? Any numbers beside Yoshi Island?

Third week comparison:

01./01. [3DS] Pokemon X / Y # <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2013.10.12} (¥4.800) - 265.984 / 2.953.059 <80-100%> (-55%)
01./01. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 # <ACT> (Capcom) {2013.09.14} (¥5.990) - 234.713 / 2.542.114 <80-100%> (-46%)

The boys & girls at Level 5 must be ecstatic to see Yo-kai Watch mentioned in the same breath as Pokemon and Monster Hunter.

Is there a graph that plots the PS4 sales against the Dreamcast, WiiU and other systems? Would be interesting to see.

Release schedule looks completely empty and I'm expecting very little of note from TGS.

Nice to see the Wii U bump. Hopefully it got a bump in the west too.

Poor Yoshi sales.
My waifu is responsible for 2 of them though ( ≖‿≖)

Why would they do that?
The Xbox may perform bad in Japan, but the 360 still did over 1.5 million units there. While that is certainly poor per capita sales, it's probably still more than they get in countries like Norway yet they still release there.
