it is likely it will go much lower because the PS4 release calendar for the rest of the year is :

.

Oh, I know, it's just sad..... Still makes you wonder why MS will even bother releasing there in Sept. There is no interest unless they have a bunch of unannounced Japanese exclusive games to launch with the system. Sony should have done everythign they could to get Persona 5 on PS4 instead of PS3 to boost system sales.

MS probably aiming for an unique record.

Didn't Nintendo already start giving away copies of Yoshi's New Island in their buy a 3DS LL and get a free game promotion, even before the retail release of the game? I'm sure that probably cut into sales a bit for the game,

It is included for July and August:

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/campaign/3dsLL2014/

You're wrong. Read the sentence down the Yoshi's picture. It says available from the 24th.
You could't get Yoshi as a free game before that day.

Is there a graph that plots the PS4 sales against the Dreamcast, WiiU and other systems? Would be interesting to see.

Release schedule looks completely empty and I'm expecting very little of note from TGS.
Studio Japan's decision to release Puppeteer and Rain on PS3 becomes increasingly befuddling, as we see the complete lack of activity for the PS4 in Japan, lol.

Poor Yoshi sales.
My waifu is responsible for 2 of them though ( ≖‿≖)

EDIT: Why two by the way, one for you? If so: Have fun, and post your impressions in the OT :).

Yes and no. You can choose to download the full-version of a game from the e-shop starting in August(needs to be redeemed by the end of this month), but you only get to keep the full game for two-months, after which point you can purchase it for 40% off the regular price. Yeah...

Actually it's two games for one month each. And both can be bought afterwards with the 40% discount.

A month is enough to beat a game also. Good idea to make people wait so the consoles won't return to the used market too quickly.

It was her birthday yesterday, so her mom bought her a copy and a copy for her friend.
Also unfortunately I don't know her personally lol...

I thought I had seen something about it in a store when I was checking out stuff, but I guess I must have misread it at the time.

Seeing the web page, I'm guessing you could redeem the code, but you wouldn't be able to DL/play the game until release?

PSV and PS4 in decline but especially PS4 is doing terribly. It´s still uncertain if there´ll be a PSV successor, if not we could see a situation where Sony will be completely irrelevant in Japan in future.

Eh, Sony's future in Japan seems to be quite problematic right now. It would mean that we could see more traditional Sony-linked titles coming to Nintendo and mobile platforms as well...I mean, I don't think franchises like Yakuza or God Eater would fit the mobile environment, at least the main episodes. Spin-offs? It's a big possibility. Other brands would fit in the mobile market even with more "official main" chapters.

the X1 will still be a new thing in September it might sell enough to chart over WiiU and PS4 for a few weeks since they are not really doing hot numbers at all

I doubt Sony will release another handheld.

Nintendo mostlikely would tho and if it is backward comp. then I can see them really moving. The installbase would be huge.

I've been thinking, with the whole 2DS thing in NA and that not really being a good way to bring up 3DS sales I'm wondering if the usual cheap and affordable Nintendo approach isn't such a great idea when kids are already having the cheapest and most beginner friendly games available to them. Why else would they not release the 2DS in Japan if they already knew that it wasn't the solution for declining sales?

So perhaps we might see a shift in Nintendo's approach when it comes down to their next line of hardware but knowing Nintendo....eh it's quite the long shot.

---------------This Week | Last Year | YTD | Last YTD |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| PSV # | 23.642 | 19.866 | 761.105 | 610.962

Not sure if serious.

Maybe he is talking about since the release of that special pack not too long ago.

It's gone from 40k -> 29k -> 23k

If the installbase would be huge (meaning that there would be a lot of potential customers), why do you think that Sony would drop out of that sector? Unless you mean that the Vita would have a really long life.

Sony definitely going to have to open up their pockets if they want to salvage Japan and Japan developed games in their library. Pretty crazy we're heading towards a #1 home console barely hitting 5 million after PS2 2 gens ago did 21 or 22

PS3/PS4 comparison:

Launches aligned (21 weeks):
PS4: 5.581 / 647.682 (7/21 - 7/27/2014)
PS3: 16,889 / 811,381 (3/26 - 4/1/2007)

And PS3 during the same week as this past week in 2007:
PS3: 28,829 / 1,017,689 (Hots Shots Golf 5 launch week)

Where is my HSG6 SCEJ?

Hopefully it's less pathetic than last year, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

That was actually quite an interesting thread to dig up again, not least after the discussion in last week's thread about what Capcom expected from Gaist Crusher:

"-Capcom intends to heavily support Gaist Crusher with a multifaceted transmedia push. This was expressed before, but re-expressed with details on the scope of the effort. They basically want it to be Monster Hunter for children."

Could've done with that to fall back on at the time.

So, all the new releases

Tokyo Shinseiroku: Operation Abyss

sold less than their predecessor?

What do you consider the "predecessor" to Tokyo New World Record? Demon Gaze (the last original Vita game by Experience Inc.), Stranger of Sword City (the last game by Experience Inc.) or Labyrinth Cross Blood Infinity (the prequel to TNWR)?

It sold less than Demon Gaze, but sold more than both Stranger of Sword City & Labyrinth Cross Blood, iirc (the Labyrinth Cross Blood game on Vita was a remake, but I think the Xbox 360 original sold less than Tokyo New World Record too)

First week:
Corpse Party: Blood Covered - Repeated Fear (5pb.) - 13.566 / NEW
Corpse Party: Book of Shadows # <ADV> (5pb.) {2011.09.01} (¥6.090) - 15.249 / NEW

Thanks for the data. On the plus side, series has remained constant in sales despite change in platform (possibly only a little less than Book of Shadows given digital). On the negative side, no series growth at all.

Nice numbers for YW2! Impressive that it's holding g so well! Ok numbers for 3DS and Vita

Biggest question is, will Japanese devs choose PS4 over Wii U to make games on despite Wii U having a "much" larger install base?

I mean that If anyone has a chance of releasing another handheld with the current landscape I think it would be Nintendo. I can't see Sony doing another one. The vita is doing okay in Japan and failing everywhere else. The 3DS is fairing a lot better in every territory compared to the Vita.

I am sure the Vita is a money hole for them along with Vita TV.

It depends on do you want to sell your game in the west too. And well some games just sell better on specific platform despite the userbase difference (For example Tales of ).
