The Last of Us: Remastered |OT| Game of the Years

So I started a game last night on Grounded and so far I am loving it. Usually not a guy that plays the hardest modes, but having played through this before I wanted to switch it up. It's difficult, but requires you to be more methodical and strategic. And it gets fucking intense when you know you're one hit away from death.

Anybody know anything about a Grounded trophy glitch on Bill's Graveyard? Everything else shows as being completed on Grounded. Graveyard doesn't even have any completion recorded on it. Checked the net, says to play that section on Grounded again through to High School. Did that but still no record of any completion whatsoever.

My game shows this as well. I think it's just a glitch, but it's inconsequential. When I beat the game the trophy still popped.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
Funny, I remember dying a lot in
the tunnel in Salt Lake City
during my first play-through on the PS3, but now I just went through on my first try without any problem. Much of the game is so much easier if you just don't fight them.

Arrived at work and just want to get home and finish my grounded playthrough. *sigh*

Apart from them getting rid of some useful checkpoints the game is amazing on this difficulty. Really helps get the best out of the dynamic A.I. I've seen things that have blown my mind and the stealth has just really clicked for me this time.

I'm glad there is the 30fps mode. Hope it shuts up those that think 30 is more "cinematic" for a little. Well until they start to parrot the next bs PR phrase. The 60fps really makes the game feel more alive and 30 was a mess after switching to it.

Is there auto aim in this game? I'm playing on hard and during
the section were you get caught on one of Bill's traps and you're hanging upside down, I noticed after pushing off a clicker I went to aim and it automatically locked onto its head. This happened in all the attempts I took to clear that section

There is auto aim only after pushing away an enemy.

You could shoot doctors in the leg if you wanted and then they don't die. Marlene had to go, that much is obvious.

Yeah, yeah.
And that's even without taking into consideration that the persons who were supposed
to invent the cure seemed like they had nearly no clue what they were doing anyway.

This was the biggest factor that helped me rationalise Joel's actions.

So am I the only one who
set the doctor on fire
? Once I got there I realized it was the only weapon I hadn't used yet, so I decided to change that. I felt really bad afterwards, especially when
the other doctors screamed "YOU MONSTER!!" lol (I let them live <3)

I did this on my second playthrough. It made *END SPOILERS*
the other surgeons watching all the better when I spared their lives. Its safe to say they won't chase after Joel and Ellie after seeing him Molotov their colleague in warm blood.

Haha I was on my second playtrough also.
Yeah, I grabbed Ellie, stared at the other surgeons for a moment while they were cowering in fear and that's when I decided that this was enough :D. #TeamPsychoJoel

Marvel

could never
Wow you guys make me feel like a psycho lol I did this at the end
Burned the scalpel guy alive with the flame thrower, shot the female Dr with an arrow in the knee and then blew away the cowering guy with my shotgun

Yes I felt bad after.

Still early (Tess
just died
) i think the game is quite well crafted.
The different types of enemies and options you have really make the gameplay, and i feel it strikes an almost perfect balance between exploration/mild platforming and action, with the action part being further split between survival horror, stealth and cover shooter.

Graphics are hit/miss for me; beautiful interiors and gorgeous locations while some of the open areas are sometimes ruined by ugly things and a general lack of detail in the distance.
May I add, weird use of shaders on characters and some of the materials, sometimes giving a very early last gen look (bricks that shine for no reason, speculars used gratuitously on metal surfaces etc). Still, impressive variety and quality especially for a last gen game.

Photo mode is lots of fun, but i wish every developer just borrowed Forza Motorsports' Interface, which gives you a lot more control on framing and doesn't force you to go through several different menus for various effects.

Just looking at that gif a few posts back got me thinking. If they do make another TLOU, I hope we have some form of control over our allies/partner. Would be kinda cool to tell them to position themselves at certain places, throw a brick/glass, create a distraction etc.

Don't know how well that would play into how the game operates as is but having more control as an option is never a bad thing IMO.

I think this is the best looking game I've ever seen, and I've got a 780 in my PC. But ND's artists just went above and beyond here. It feels like every corner of every room and courtyard and rooftop was so painstakingly hand crafted, there's so much to see. The artistic skill (and the BUDGET) that went into this game, man.

That's the thing that gets me about this game every time. There's so much unique artistic detail and every room feels like it has a rich history and a story to tell. Given how hard they were hitting RAM limits with this game on PS3, I can't wait to see what their artists and animators can do from the ground up on PS4.
Same here. I've spent a lot of Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning playing it. It's now 4:40 in the morning and I have to get rest for work. Luckily I work an afternoon to midnight shift. 😊

But I wanted to also express how amazing this game looks. The building's bricks have a real look to them. Lot of love went into the art and it shows here. I swear sometimes the game looks damn near photorealistic.

Story has me sucked in for sure also. As a first timer with the game I can see why GAF hyped it to hell and back. It's a damn good game. I know one of the Naughty Dogs posts here so I just wanted them to know I think the game is awesome. Runs like a dream too, great optimization.

Now I gotta get my ass to sleep, lol.

Sequel speculation:
If I had to guess I'd say that Ellie and Joel will both return for the sequel, it only makes sense from a marketing standpoint. Sure TLOU is a complete story, and doesn't really need a sequel, but the success of the game points to franchise potential - and the original game + Left behind paints Ellie as strong protagonist to carry the franchise forward.

If I was writing it I would have the player start off in Tommy's town a few years later, probably open with something like the deleted scene shown during the one night live presentation. You control Joel and sure enough something goes wrong with Tommy's town's defenses and all hell breaks loose. You fight hard alongside Ellie and Tommy but eventually the town is overrun and you have to flee.

I would also write in a potential love interest for Ellie that makes it out with you, just so you could have some over-protective father drama with Joel. This, in addition to the lie told at the end of the first game, makes Joel and Ellie's relationship uneasy through most of the early game.

At some point the three of them get ambushed by infected, Ellie and the love interest get into a no-win situation and Joel gets bitten while rescuing them. Joel asks Ellie to end it for him, but she refuses. At this point Joel reveals the truth about what happened in Salt Lake City, hoping it will convince her to kill him. Instead she leaves him to die alone.

She decides to head back to Salt Lake City to try and find any remnants of the Fireflies, hoping to eventually sacrifice herself for the cure. When they get there, the love interest figures out her intentions and tries to convince her not to do it. Resolute, she decides it's best to part ways and go it alone.

She gets a clue from Salt Lake City that points her in the direction of another potential research base. Along the way she encounters a few different scenarios where people are in dire situations is able to rescue them, becoming a hero to some.

In the end she gets there and of course, something happens that prevents the procedure from being done. Say some band of assholes come along to raid the site - killing many, while abducting women or children (maybe for meat like David's bunch). Alone and unable to fulfill her purpose, Ellie contemplates ending her own life.

Before she can, one of the survivors finds her and asks for her help to rescue the some of the abducted. Ellie agrees, and eventually succeeds, and in doing so realizes that she has found a reason for survival: helping others. With the skills she has acquired, in addition to her immunity to the bacteria, she becomes a warrior for people in the land of the dead
Jesus, now I want a sequel.

Reading through this thread for the first-timer reactions to the whole game. So good. :D

I just had an AWESOME moment in Left Behind. Basically, I watched a clicker take down a whole team of Hunters while I watched. The last kill is by far my favorite, especially because of what the guy says right before he's attacked.

I uploaded the footage...

oh man thats great

I fuckin love this game
I FUCKIN LOVE THIS GAME
feels - the game, second time maybe even more feels than the first ç_ç

I said
"WTF. Thats it."
my first playthrough. On my second playthrough I was
brought to tears
.

Sequel speculation:

I like it.
I really don't want them to continue Joel and Ellies story but Ashley Johnson is soo good as her. Not to mention the reception she has gotten as a character. Whatever happens I just want TLOU2 with next gen visuals and gameplay.

My only disagreement is
some sort of friction btw. Joel and Ellie. I don't get why so many interpreted the story this way. She knew he was lying at the end but I don't think that'd make her hate him or anything. She might hate what he did to Marlene but that's about it

This is my first time playing The Last Of Us but is the action like the gunshots very loud or is it just me?

I find that I turn the audio down during the shootouts because of how loud they are then back up again when its quiet and there is talking.

I just have the sound coming from my hdtv speakers no sound setup.

They're deliberately loud because that's what it's meant to sound like compared to everything else in real life.

Game lacks of cruise control function, so I could watch it like movie. Story is great, but gameplay kills half of my enjoyment.

That is what YouTube is for. Or the cinematic section in the main menu. You might have to beat the game to see them all though.

iirc Neil said about the ending in one of his dev conferences that *END SPOILS*
there was definitely friction. Ellie realized at the end that she is going to have to eventually leave Joel to find her own way and make her own choices. Before I heard this, I thought a similar way. My interpretation of Ellie's tone of "Okay" was in a way accepting. It wasn't an "Okaaaay". Its not like she wouldn't trust Joel with her life anymore and shes happy to finally have someone in her life.

Yes gunshots are loud but they seem extremely loud in this game compared to other games I mean.

Its intentional I think. Each shot and bullet have so much weight to it physically and metaphorically.

Listening to the Director's (+ Troy & Ashley) commentary was great. It feels like game creators don't often get the chance to just sit down and talk about their game.

Well in most other games guns sound the same or even softer than everything else which is utter nonsense and unsatisfying. I'd say The Last Of Us got the volume levels pretty much spot on, but I can see it being jarring to someone who isn't used to it.

Playing Grounded at the moment and not having too much trouble (I love the fact the ammo counter HUD is gone.)

Anything/ Any Part of the game I need to look out for?

I've completed the game on the PS3 on Hard.

so did they finally fix stalker AI?

my first encounter with them in the hotel basement and I actually found it abit scary this time. In the ps3, I thought they were runners because they acted like runners.

in the ps4 version they follow you around making noise and tried to ambush me.

Doing Grounded+ and I'm breezing through now. I got stuck at Capitol building for at least an hour on my normal Grounded run and I just did it in one try without getting hit - pure stealth. So far I only had to retry that part where you clear out an entire floor of infected in the tilted building.

I just got to the subway section and I see why everyone is complaining about the gamma there. Hoooly shit the game looks terrible! My first playthrough was NOT like this so that confirms that the patch is what's causing this (patch wasn't out yet on my first run).

I really hope ND fixes this because this can't be intentional as it looked fine pre-patch.

Can anyone come up with a game that has better voice acting than this? Uncharted is the closest thing and that's made by the same company.

Subway section was awful and had me wondering if there was something wrong with my PS4, graphically it was a mess. Found it hard to see anything at all and made me wonder if the PS3 version had similar problems, but clearly it's just busted.

so far
(just got separated from ellie/henry in the sewers)
i found that as long as you manage to stay in stealth it´s not that much harder than survivor.
but sections where you get rushed by many runners/clickers
(lincoln high school)
or any part where hunters are aware of and actively engaging you
(plaza after hotel)
can get incredibly intense and difficult. also depends if you´re willing to expend bullets/bombs/molotovs or try to save them for later.

BF4 is the one other game with bone rattling gun sounds. In BF4, it feels like it hits you in the stomach, which is closer to real life. As for TLOU, gun sounds are much rarer and should give out an extra intensity imho.
