NPD Sales Results for July 2014 [Up1: 3DS LTDs, Wii U LTDs, Tomodachi]

Wait, what were Shinra's numbers?

From earlier

So PS4 + XBO should be around/less than 384K.

And Wii U should be around/less than 81K.

Depending upon how loosely PR is rounding. I.e. being up 58% would probably still be considered being up "nearly 60%" and would be around 74K. Likewise Callahan's "close to 80%" could be something like 78%.

Hmm, software down, but wonder if software will be up next month with quite a few releases coming for current gen.

Wait are we then including DLC and microtransactions in this digital revenue? Because if we are I could totally see that. I thought we were only talking about game/software sales though

I'm not sure if Moore was including DLC and MT in his 'digital revenue' but I don't think that makes a big part of EA's digital revenue streams.

Does anyone know if NPD has any plans to include digital revenue? Surely the way they report software is becoming increasingly antiquated?

Retail is shrinking relatively fast.

And PS4 or Xbone estimates yet?

No not really and we're all really bored.

I just poked Y2Kev in the belly. The look on his face wasn't encouraging. Similar to the look I got when I ate something under the bed and got sick on Evilore's Yoga mat. Disgust and thinly veiled loathing.

I think the implication is that the bulk of excited Halo fans have mostly already bought an XBO.

I don't agree with this. I would think there would be a large group of them who would just wait for Halo to come out to get it.

It's similar to saying that the bulk of GT and Uncharted fans already have a PS4 which I don't agree with either (or would say).

A remaster of popular franchise, it will probably sell less Titanfall.

I honestly don't think so. The game should do really well in November and December. And in terms of the months after, I think Halo MMC will still sell decently -- even possibly after Halo 5 comes out. I don't think Halo MMC will be impacted by a new entry in its series the same way Titanfall (1) will.

I can maybe (huge maybe) see it selling close to that if it releases right around black friday, but MK didnt do 2mil in its first week, it did like what, 800Kish? I think zelda, in the holiday of 2015, could beat that without too much issue.

I thought that old thread was MK8 did 2 mill it's first week. Or was it first month?

EDIT:
Oh, 1.2 FW
Mario Kart 8 Sells More Than 1.2 Million Units Worldwide Over First Weekend ( 1 2 3 4 5 ... Last )

2 million First month.
Still don't Zelda coming close to either.

Remember, we are talking about a game for the Wii U.

Smash on the Wii did well but at the same time, the Wii sold almost triple to what the Xbox 360 sold during some months last gen -- Very large user base helped.

Smash on Gamecube did well.

A Halo remaster is not going to outsell Smash Bros for Wii U.

Halo 5, however, will.

Halo Collection will do great, and I'll point to the fact that Mario Kart has sold above a million in the US on a console that's on life support. This is Microsoft's Mario Kart.

I would strongly disagree that DLC and MT's don't make up a big portion of EA's digital revenue streams but that's not really a major focus anyways

Aqua has commented on it a couple of times. I believe NPD is working on getting it from publishers and/or via surveys to consumers? I can't remember their methodology tbh

Zelda is the one that has no chance.

Honestly, I think Zelda will have a tough time passing 3-ish million WW. Especially if Japan still can't remember who Zelda even is.

For it to sell 2 million in the first week? I can't see it.

Definitely.
People really have very inflated expectations for the LoZ franchise in terms of sales.
Tbqh, the franchise is like DKC; it has the potential to build momentum and move hardware, but if Nintendo doesn't put a lot of power behind it it'll end up giving a pretty disappointing performance.

Nintendo? There's a good chance that 75% of what is "wrong with Nintendo" will be present in the next gen.

Errr...
I don't know about that; sounds ridiculously pessimistic if you ask me.

Their 9th gen plans sound pretty stable as far as I'm concerned ("fuck western peeps, unified portable/home hardware, indies/Japanese, lower prices, no droughts, and focus on kids/families."); it's possible they or the market conditions that will exist in the late new tens could screw it all up, but it seems like the big N understands why the WiiU has failed so badly.
I'm confident that they'll work something out; we're not dealing with 5th gen Nintendo here, they've been through this before.

The 360 dominated last gen. Everyone who wanted Halo, played it. The collection will attract the Halo core who want to relieve the Halo 2 days (and who would have bought or already have an X1). I do t think the mainstream audience will care much for it.

Yeah, Zelda is popular but doesn't really put up big numbers. One could even argue wth the Wii craze and it being a launch title with motion controls and "gritty" (heh....), TP should've sold even more if that's how these things worked.

Eh, I could still easily no change in major third party relations and western support leading to more droughts, and bad sales. I think the next console will do better than the GC though, ha.

The bolded are their problems. Maybe that's not 75%, but that sounds about right. Even things that aren't inherently bad like "focus on kids/families" are considered their problem since that target market seems to be taken by the mobile market, which makes it seem like they're not actually targetting anyone (hi, Wii U).

Yes, I am ridiculously pessimistic, but you can blame Nintendo for that.

Smash on Gamecube did well.

It releasing shortly after the GameCube launched helped.

A Halo remaster is not going to outsell Smash Bros for Wii U.

My post was mainly me talking about part of the reason why Smash did better than Halo 3 in 2008.

Anyway, Mario Kart Double Dash did similar to Smash Bros. Melee in sales iirc (4 million). Mario Kart didn't really boost the Wii U's sales by that much and I don't think Smash Bros will either. The game should definitely do well the month it releases though.

Don't agree. There's people who are waiting to get an Xbox One in November due to Halo MMC.
