MS needs to start locking down more exclusives if they're going to stage a come back. Tomb Raider alone isn't going to cut it, if I were them I'd look at Evolve, Witcher and The Order if I really wanted to knock Sony's legs out from under them.

I see what you did there.

F**k that. They should fund some new games instead of spending money on screwing other gamers.

EDIT: Haha please tell me this is sarcasm now that I read it again.

The Order is a Sony game and also not gong to happen. The wider thegap grows the less likely publishers are going to take Micrososft's bags of money no matter how many their are. The more expensive it gets the more grumpy investors get at Microsoft for buying exclusives which increasingly have less and less ROI.

From what I hear, it seems like a Mario Kart would run on both a 4DS and Wii3, right? So only one Mario Kart gets released then. With lower sales? I must be misunderstanding something though.

Unified architecture would make it easier to make games since they wouldn't have to start over fresh when the next system comes out. It'd also allow Nintendo to port games back and fourth with ease if needs be, and it would also allow games to be developed faster. Make Animal Crossing for the 4DS and then use that as the base for the home system version, which cuts down on budget and dev time.

Virtual Console games working on both and coming out quicker, day and date etc. Lots of advantages. It doesn't necessarily mean one game works on both in the traditional sense. Maybe MK9 works on both but each platform has incentives exclusive to that system? Better visuals on the home system. Portability on handled. No different to cross play right now. And even if each game would work on both systems out of the box, what makes you assume they'd only release MK/Smash etc one per gen? They can easily release two like they do right now. Having two Mario Karts on the same system is possible.

I'm confused...by a few things actually.

So you're saying Nintendo shoudn't try to have games like GTA, Madden, Minecraft a comprable COD, etc third party games...because they appeal to young western gamers?

Hm, firstly, the market is mostly those people so why wouldn't you want to appeal to them? Secondly, those games appeal to everyone (even when some shouldn't), so getting the Maddens and Minecrafts is not only for young men. Everyone buys these games.

It does not matter if GTA, Madden, CoD, etc is on Nintendo's console if PS5 continues the winning philosophies of the PS4, i.e. the most powerful x86 console Sony can make for $400. Why should gamers move from the PlayStation brand unless Sony does something stupid? Look at where Microsoft is at the moment because of their mistakes with the XB1. That is the best Nintendo could hope for by following Sony and MS's ideas.

Wait a minute, how can they moneyhat a 1st party exclusive from another company?

Also isn't it obvious by now just moneyhatting games won't work, especially as the gulf in install base between the two systems grows going forward?

8 bites in less than 50 posts.

I salute your genius, once again.

So then what happens if they get handily outsold for the rest of the year (talking US only here)? Is it considered officially over? Will the tone have been set for the rest of the generation?

Obviously none of us have a crystal ball here, but I'm just curious of others' opinions.
Speak for yourself. I have a crystal ball right over.....here....

Oh %*$#@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stupid breakable crystal ball.

Everyone knows The Order is basically a Sony money hat, I don't know why more people aren't angry about it like TR. I'm pretty sure it was called Dark Souls: The Order 1886 before Sony prevented it being multi platform.

So console SW per SKU > 100k, but less than 150k?, 200k? Any clearer indication?
Interesting that greater than 100k is the start point.

Well considering that TLoU for PS4/PS3 was better than Minecraft for PS3/360, I think it's safe to assume TLoUR is over 200k, just how much is it is the real question

With the exception of Minecraft, Yes.
Those things don't appeal to the Wii/DS/GB/phone/tablet (Nintendo's most important market), and there isn't any reason for them to try and get that kind of software. They've made it pretty clear over the past few months that they didn't do a very good job in appealing to the family/casual market with their 8th gen machines, and they've admitted that it's where there focus should have been/should be.
Also, It's really not too hard to understand the "brother console" concept; just think of it like the iPhone and the iPad (NinGo and NinHome)
Nintendo would need to look at the other markets then, because that casual crowd has no real incentive to come back when they can phone, work, and game satisfactorily all on one device. Unless Nintendo catches lightning in a bottle again, which is possible, but risky.

That's not true at all, realistic sports sims, like Madden, mostly appeal to young western men.
Why do you think those games sold so horribly on the Wii?
Hell, even when they tried to create a more whimsical arcadey Madden specifically for the Wii it failed (as far as I know); there just isn't any reason for Nintendo to care about the AAA western market going into the future.

I still disagree. It's not 17-25 only men who play the Maddens, CODs, whatever big name 3rd party game. People off ages play those games (despite the rating sometimes), which is why they're so popular. Maybe not so much Madden and COD, but girls probably also play some of the big western games too. Like Lego or Minecraft.

Winning a generation again without that support seems impossible to me, unless they managed to find...well...the next Wii.

Congrats to Corrine Yu! I think she gets a special congratulations after that random jr showed up trashing her for no reason. So I will give her a special congrats.

Is there a reason that dude wasn't banned into oblivion? Unless Im mistaken he was claiming she was about to be fired and here we are 5 months later and she's still working for ND. What a load of BS.

WW probably. But didn't the street series, skate, nascar, nhl, madden 25, nba live, and tiger all do better on xbox?

You're aware that there's a new xbox, right?

You should also be aware that it's getting slaughtered WW and getting beaten pretty handily in the US.

Let's be real... just like TF, most people who want MCC already has an xbox one. I can see MCC selling well, but I don't think it will be the system seller some are hoping it will be.

I (again) don't get why this is a popular line of thinking.

So does everyone that want GT and Uncharted already have a PS4? What's makes that different?

Also, it's coming out in November when console sales will (or at least should be) pretty high anyway.
