MS needs to start locking down more exclusives if they're going to stage a come back. Tomb Raider alone isn't going to cut it, if I were them I'd look at Evolve, Witcher and The Order if I really wanted to knock Sony's legs out from under them.

Like Titanfall, go ahead and lock down TR for life on game, then since square is willing grab FF15 for life not timed. Microsoft, go ahead and rock the boat.

NPD threads without numbers are so bad :(
They'll arrive, eventually.

The REAL battle starts Holiday 2015, when TRRotTR is released EXCLUSIVELY on the XBOAIOES.

Then Soony will be schooled, for sure.

Unified architecture would make it easier to make games since they wouldn't have to start over fresh when the next system comes out. It'd also allow Nintendo to port games back and fourth with ease if needs be, and it would also allow games to be developed faster. Make Animal Crossing for the 4DS and then use that as the base for the home system version, which cuts down on budget and dev time.

Virtual Console games working on both and coming out quicker, day and date etc. Lots of advantages. It doesn't necessarily mean one game works on both in the traditional sense. Maybe MK9 works on both but each platform has incentives exclusive to that system? Better visuals on the home system. Portability on handled. No different to cross play right now. And even if each game would work on both systems out of the box, what makes you assume they'd only release MK/Smash etc one per gen? They can easily release two like they do right now. Having two Mario Karts on the same system is possible.
Ohh ok. Thanks

It does not matter if GTA, Madden, CoD, etc is on Nintendo's console if PS5 continues the winning philosophies of the PS4, i.e. the most powerful x86 console Sony can make for $400. Why should gamers move from the PlayStation brand unless Sony does something stupid? Look at where Microsoft is at the moment because of their mistakes with the XB1. That is the best Nintendo could hope for by following Sony and MS's ideas.

I'm not saying Nintendo needs to be the leader in that market, but instead to just sell enough units so it's not mind numbingly horrible.
What I mean is:

Sell worse than Xbox or PS with the Madden's and CODs, but still enough that games will actually get made for your system.
Maybe like 20-25% of sales for games like this instead of sub-10% to nonexistant.

For games like Lego and Skylanders, they should be leading the console sales if they want to win.

With these to supplement, the 1st party support could make up for the rest and help it be successful.

It may have come off differently before, but in way did I mean Nintendo should strive to like....have a Destiny have it sell the most on their system. That won't happen. Instead, try to have a Destiny or GTA....and it not bomb w101 style.

I do honestly believe madden deal and bundle will give a Slight edge to the sales over everyone else.

But I dont think its enough to best destiny.

Nintendo would need to look at the other markets then, because that casual crowd has no real incentive to come back when they can phone, work, and game satisfactorily all on one device.

That raises another question. If that family market is Nintendo's goal, then they're going to be competing directly with the tablets and smartphones. The mobile market seems to move very fast (both software and hardware) and I have a hard time imagining that Nintendo, the sloth that it is, would be able to transform itself into viable competition by the time next gen rolls around.

.... square is willing grab FF15 for life not timed.

Beside stating the obvious reasons why that will never happen, what makes you think FF15 is going to release any time near when it would make a difference?

Wouldn't surprise me if at E3 2016 we still don't have a release date. Just a couple more trailers and a short demo.

You will get your Lighting remastered collection and you will love it.

I have a gif challenge for someone. The scene in Robin Hood men in tights when robin is challenged to a dual by sherriff of rottingham. Could change it to Spencer's face and an Xbox controller he uses to slap robin. Robin then with Yoshida or Cerny's face picks up the PS4 and knocks him out with it

Would be pretty funny.

The two don't come out in the same month.

I would be surprised if the XB1 doesn't outsell PS4 in August because Madden is the biggest release of the month and the bundle should help a fair bit.

So you think the madden bundle will give it a sales edge over everyone else, but actually not because it's not enough to beat destiny?

What?

How much will tier 2 help? 300*500k max throughout Sept-Dec?
Do you know it is a NPD thread? And don't think tier 2 will help to change the situation... most countries already have deals for Xbone without official release... PS4 is not selling a bit more that these sales in tier 2 will make difference... PS4 is selling a lot more... ~4:1 this year.

It's dat Madden Immersion, didn't ya know? The sticks make you feel like you are on the field handling that ball! Only on Xbox One.

Exclusively on Xbox One Holiday 2015... lol.

I (again) don't get why this is a popular line of thinking.

So does everyone that want GT and Uncharted already have a PS4? What's makes that different?

Also, it's coming out in November when console sales will (or at least should be) pretty high anyway.

Well... if it was truly a system seller, don't you think it would of won the month of March, considering the competition didn't have squat that month? And I think that will also carry on into MCC... yes, all ships will rise with the tide of holiday sales, but I honestly don't think it will carry them above and beyond playstation this holiday. Not saying they won't have their successes, but let's be real, whatever gains they have, it will either be matched by sony or they will soon recede any gains they will have made after the holiday season. The current gap is too great to overcome over one holiday season, they need to succeed consistently over a longer period of time to make any difference in the NA market.

And to your point, yes, most of the people who want those games already have a ps4, considering they sold 10 million consoles. That's a lot of people, and most of those games don't reach those numbers in sales, so it's not a stretch saying those people who own the console, own it because they want those games. And by the time those games are released, the numbers will have doubled, if not tripled (depending on when GT releases).

They've shown that they can do it in Japan, a country dominated by mobile, so it is possible.

However, it is likely that sales will be worse next generation due to threat of hand me down smartphones and free/cheap smartphone software.

Therefore, they are looking for ways to expand out of gaming e.g. QOL.
