I've been looking at the H2A Sanctuary footage all the while feeling like the art wasn't sitting well with me compared to the original. I was thinking as to why this is because I mean it's not like the original is much of a looker, it's dirt, some rocks, and stone architecture. So what was putting me off?

It's the sky.

I love that blue sky, always positively adds to the atmosphere and makes me feel cozy. The greys and yellows of H2A Sanctuary's overcast sky just gives it a more melancholic tone that has me feeling less at home with it; like playing outside as a kid and having the setting sun remind you that the fun's almost up and it's almost time to go home. If everything was kept as is but given a beautiful midday clear blue sky I think it'd be perfect.

On the opposite end of the spectrum we have Ascension. Bluest skies ever in the remake, while the original had more smog than LA.

I for one welcome our new melancholic skyboxes. Forge World was enough blue skies and green grass to last a generation.
With video games and FPSs specifically trending towards the grim, dark, and gritty, I welcome any splash of color. I think a brighter blue sky would help the new Sanctuary a lot, though it's already a gorgeous map.

Being someone who missed out on all the Hype the first time around.... aka I wasn't really a FPS gamer when H2 first released, how hyped should I be for this MP?

I feel pretty dang hyped.

This is already the correct response. Honestly between H1-4 in MCC if you can't find top notch enjoyment on dedis & 60fps then I seriously doubt the FPS genre is for you :)

Get Hyped. Just get friends near you to play with, Halo is so much better in a party working together or even one solid buddy to play with

I expect HaloGAF to be deep on this, Aus/NZGAF for game times though (along with GPforum peeps).

Alas most of my IRL mates are not gamers, so I will make sure to squad up for this on here/GP.

SOYZUKI is a definite squadmate on here, Auckland's finest Spartan.

You should be hyped for the fact that the games will look and play better than ever before. We're you around for Halo 3? Now imagine the same game then, but with 60 fps smooth game play, all the maps available, 1080p resolution and dedicated servers.

I think this is the most complete Halo multiplayer suite, and I really love the unified menu idea now. No disc swapping, jump in and out of each game. Getting sick of 4v4 Halo 2? Go play BTB Avalanche or Sandtrap on Halo 3 etc. This will make tournaments and customs so much easier because everyone has every map, each game has one menu etc.

My GT is the same as my GAF name. Melbourne based and a good bunch of regular guys'n'gals who play a lot of Halo and soon Destiny too (beta was good stuff). You're welcome to hit me up now or when MCC drops to play.

It's 343's/CA's tendency to want to make the sky a huge spectacle full of huge flashy scenery or explosions or entire Halo rings or whatever. They're technically imprssive, sure, but I'd take Bungie's more restrained, beautiful-but-not-all-up-in-your-face-about-it style every time.

Oh you haven't played through any of the halos yet? You should be no less hyped than this:

Seriously you're in for a treat single player and multiplayer. And I agree, get at least one friend to join you in the hype and the consecutive timewasting ;)

I actually love the fact that skyboxes are being focused on somewhat. They are dynamic, and help the map feel more alive and not just a random closed off and singular area.

Though something as simple as the environment/skybox of Standoff is pretty great too. Nice, clean, simple.

Though I bet I'll spend at least 5-10 minutes in awe at something like the background in Ascension. Adds such a nice ambience.

I have a confession to make. I cannot remember a single moment from either the Reach or Halo 4 campaigns. I guess they just didn't do it for me.

That is in no way reflective of those games though. Reach was basically just a string of memorable moments. And they both had memorable endings especially Halo 4.

Nice, always good to see more NZ HaloGAFers

Seeing that Standoff screen above brought back a ton of memories from Halo 3. Really looking forward to replaying that game the most, particularly with the reinvigorated MP.

Is there going to be an AusGAF MCC gamertag list? I am going to need to add a bunch of Aussies to my list.

Would get involved!

I got the opportunity to meet all the 343i staff present at Gamescom, you guys are fantastic and I really loved to meet you here.

So I played multiples matches on Halo 2A MP: Sanctuary and Ascension all over the week.

This is quick my impression on the MP of the game:
The gameplay is “slow” it feel like Halo 2 (jump and speed walk) but neferd:
- The dual wield specially the combo plasma Rifle and SMG are not so strong anymore,
- The BR is good but more balanced (longer reload time)
- The needler (solo or double are completely useless)
- The SMG got sort of bloom and a spread delay that make the feeling a lot less enjoyable personally and I think you can even see the bullets like an AR (it was invisible for H2 H3 SMGs If i am correct).
- The Carbine shoot slower than the original game specially for the feeling in 60FPS.
- I did not like the melee I think now a punch remove only the half of the shield instead to be one shot after the first punch but still kill in 2 punch and the punch lock of Halo 2 disappeared too so it feel more similar to Halo CE.
- The MA5C of Halo 4 is present and it is enough powerful I will compare it to the original SMG of Halo 2 but it is not dual wield
- The Energy Sword got a battery now
- The Rocket and Sniper feel the same and feels good.
- You can spawn choosing sort of loadouts (smg + UNSC grenade, pistol + UNSC grenade and plasma rifle with plasma grenade as start)
- Banshee seems identical to Halo 2
- The waterfall for the bases in Sanctuary is really a nice addition.

Maybe I forgot some things but for now it is all that I have in mind.

Anyway all of this was from a build of the game far from be final, so all of this is maybe subject to change.

At the end the game feel like an Halo 2.5 next gen (less Halo 2.5 than Halo 3 for example) and it is enjoyable but maybe too much nerfed sometime the fight are a little frustrating, technically the game is fluid and very clean (no aliasing) but a little "toy" as style and it appears that the game is still full of surprises but this will remain secret for now I guess :)

Halo 2A Campaign: I saw a brief passage of Halo Delta and the High charity final cutscene, not much to say on them except that both are amazing to see, you probably saw them on internet already anyway.

Halo 3 1080P 60FPS: I also saw a brief passage of Halo 3 in 1080P 60FPS, the game is like your remember but in super smooth way and with no aliasing at all that made the game far from be ugly to be honest just a little polygonal for some models but it is really ok. I did not notice any graphic upgrades.

I also asked some questions like if they will be the 3D, Kinect, instant switch for Halo CEA, dedicated servers for campaign or not, if the dedicated server will split the players by region over the world like Titanfall but I will reveal this later because it is time to take the airplane :)

Wait, so I can't just play Halo 2 MP as it originally was?

What makes you think that? 343i said several times, that you will be able to play Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4 and Halo 2 Anniversary Multiplayer.

You can either play a mix of all these games or you can just drop into Halo 2 MP and just play that, without the other games showing up in multiplayer.

Also, you should read the OP. :p

Yes, but it will just be the original graphics with running in 1080p 60FPS.

The eight map remakes apparently are going to play slightly differently.

Hard to believe they thought dual wielding needed nerfing tbh, but we'll see if that gets fixed.

I really dont see why they're doing this H2A remastered multiplayer, the games going to shop with 5 multiplayer options, whats the point? It also doesn't have all the h2 maps, and some changes to the original halo 2. I can't see it being popular, nor halo 4 MP being popular.

That is in no way reflective of those games though. Reach was basically just a string of memorable moments. And they both had memorable endings especially Halo 4.

Fair enough. Most of it was probably me personally because when these two games came out, I just didn't have that much time to dedicate to them. I am excited to play through 4's campaign again at 1080/60.

It will have the highest population by some margin for the first three months. The majority of the mega sales that Halo musters comes from consumers who pick it up to complete the campaign and dip into multiplayer for a time. H2A's multi will win the population battle purely by virtue of being the newest iteration of Halo that fully utilises the power of their brand new console.

As the months pass and the 'casual' players or those less invested in the franchise move to another game, H2A's population will dwindle whilst the harder core communities that existed for the previous generations' games will abide by their favoured Halo and maintain stable populations.

6 MP modes, if you count the Halo 5 Beta.

Bolded: Halo 2 Anniversary doesn't, but the original Halo 2 MP is still there and it's been confirmed, that all maps are there, including the Windows Vista maps. But you probably know that.

I see the MCC as a test. It's going to be fun to find out, what the most prefered MP mode is. And like you said, I don't see Halo 4 doing good. I see it as the least played one. The decline in the Halo 4 population was speaking for itself, I would say.

I'm more worried about the levels of quitting that might happen if people don't get the game they want when it comes to voting. I imagine it would be much, much higher than previous games where your main preference was maps. Now it is entire games (and their respective maps) that comes up in voting, which seems like something people might be more passionate about and willing to quit for.

(So I hope there is an option to filter matchmaking by Halo game than solely playing via playlists like Team Slayer etc).

Not bitter, just unsweetened
Where H2A MP lives or dies is the Objective MP. Yeah it looks good for slayer. But if it has dumbed down assault (instant arm) and CTF (no contesting/sudden death/slower flag carry speed) then it will most likely be less popular.

Considering the announcer doesn't even tell you when it's tie game in H2A, i have a bad feeling about objective.

There are game-specific playlists and there are gamemode- specific playlists. The only thing you can't filter, is which maps will show up in MP (I wished you could). I also don't see quitting happening too much, because people who quit will be punished in the ranked playlists.

Played 4 games at Gamescom , including one in the qualifiers where we teamed up with some friendly folks in the queue and got destroyed 50 - 11

Ascension was exactly as it should be really had fun on that one. Sanctuary had me disorientated a few times as I spawned and wasn't surw where I was it which way I was facing.

I'm not sure how finished this current build is, as it didn't look as crisp as is expect from a 1080p title.

It's WIP but I'm surprised you didn't find it crisp. What was the TV sitch?

When you start the thread, make sure you ask about what servers you are going to be playing on!

Until now, there has been no confirmation if we can choose the data centre where we play

Yep, waiting on that sort of feature confirmation still. Some rumour news from the IT world is MS/Azure are looking like opening Melbourne and Sydney datacentres in October 2014. Just in time for MCC :)
